We screened the various submissions during our Tenth Loopkicks Camp held in the San Francisco Bay Area. Special thanks to Tamara Kane of All-Star Karate for generously letting us turn her martial arts school into a movie theater. Cinema has always been an art that expands and explores the human mind, emotion, building culture, and it give us a glimpse inside one's vision. The visualization that comes with tricking transcends limitations. The art of Tricking expresses our imagination through body movement, without any external devices or paint brushes. The potential of human expression is constantly pushed upward, with trickers releasing new samplers almost weekly. Filmmaking tools more accessible, more people are able to experiment with motion picture, combing two very powerful art forms.
Both Tricking and Cinema deal with time and dynamism. Each film displays the beauty in tricking, as each filmmaker explores themselves through image, editing, and sound. Since the early days of Tricking, the trickers took things into their own and invented a short format "The Sampler" that has spread the art form unlike anything we could fathom. Samplers are vastly created and shared worldwide. The positive open mindedness of the community, creates an instant collaboration of ideas, movements, techniques, positivity and stories which push the craft to be ever evolving. As an early tricker, the samplers were more like creative demo or highlight reels, highly inspiring, goofy, ariel movement attempts and combos. Treating tricking content as a film will allow the tricker / filmmaker to challenge oneself and have a voice with her/his story through tricking.

Evidence that fisheries management in support of trophy fishing for Kenai River Chinook likely is a contributing factor to the decline of the Kenai River's Chinook populations. See the following note.
Note:
The evidence of trophy fishing contributing to genetic selection is particularly clear -- and important -- with regard to Kenai's small population early-run Chinook, which is on the verge of threatened status.
Still, sorting out the influence of genetic selection from other contributing factors should not be over-simplified. There are serious issues with Fish and Game's data. Their baseline data has large discrepancies between sonar and weir counts, and other discrepancies between the old sonar data and the new, and issues with regard to calibrating sonar counts with in-river test net catches. Fish and Game publishes data in terms of annual percentages, but seems to significantly ignore brood year data, which distinguishes contributions to returns by brood year, which is important.
Seeing disproportionate number of jacks should not invite the conclusion that management should declare an open season on jacks for the in-river fishery.
At this point, I believe Fish and Game needs help, and I hope they could get support for an independent review of the Kenai River Fisheries management by a Chinook Salmon Expert Panel composed of people of expertise of the caliber we recently have seen in the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim Chinook Salmon Research Action Plan, which I have included in the google drive directory below.

Chinook salmon
The Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) is the largest species in the Pacific salmon genus Oncorhynchus. The common name refers to the Chinookan peoples. Other vernacular names for the species include king salmon, Quinnat salmon, spring salmon, and Tyee salmon. The scientific species name is based on the Russian common name chavycha (чавыча).
Chinook are anadromous fish native to the North Pacific Ocean and the river systems of western North America, ranging from California to Alaska, as well as Asian rivers ranging from northern Japan to the Palyavaam River in the Arctic north-east Siberia. They have been introduced to other parts of the world, including New Zealand and the Great Lakes of North America. A large Chinook is a prized and sought-after catch for a sporting angler. The flesh of the salmon is also highly valued for its dietary nutritional content, which includes high levels of important omega-3 fatty acids. Some populations are endangered, however many are healthy. The Chinook salmon has not been assessed for the IUCN Red List.

Kenai River
The Kenai River called Kahtnu in the Dena'ina language, is a river in the Kenai Peninsula of south central Alaska. It runs 82 miles (132 km) westward from Kenai Lake in the Kenai Mountains, through the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Skilak Lake to its outlet into the Cook Inlet of the Pacific Ocean near Kenai and Soldotna, Alaska.
Geography
The Kenai River [Kee-nye] is a meltwater river that drains the central Kenai Peninsula region. Its source is the Kenai Lake. Near Cooper Landing, the lake narrows to form the river. About 12 miles (19 km) from the lake, the river passes through Kenai Canyon for about 2 miles (3.2 km) of fast-flowing whitewater rapids. The Russian River empties into the Kenai several miles west of Cooper Landing. 17.3 miles (27.8 km) from Kenai Lake, the river enters Skilak Lake. The Kenai Lake to Skilak section is commonly referred to as the "Upper River". The 19.5 miles (31.4 km) portion from Skilak Lake downstream to the Sterling Highway bridge near Soldotna is known as "Mid-River". The final 21 miles (34 km) from the bridge to the mouth at Cook Inlet is known as the "Lower River", where the flow is much gentler. The final 12 miles (19 km) are greatly influenced by changing tides.

Fish and Game publishes data in terms of annual percentages, but seems to significantly ignore brood year data, which distinguishes contributions to returns by brood year, which is important. Seeing disproportionate number of jacks should not invite the conclusion that management should declare an open season on jacks for the in-river fishery. At this point, I believe Fish and Game needs help, and I hope they could get support for an independent review of the Kenai River Fisheries management by a Chinook Salmon Expert Panel composed of people of expertise of the caliber we recently have seen in the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim Chinook Salmon Research Action Plan, which I have included in the google drive directory below. We screened the various submissions during our Tenth Loopkicks Camp held in the San Francisco Bay Area. Special thanks to Tamara Kane of All-Star Karate for generously letting us turn her martial arts school into a movie theater. Cinema has always been an art that expands and explores the human mind, emotion, building culture, and it give us a glimpse inside one's vision. The visualization that comes with tricking transcends limitations. The art of Tricking expresses our imagination through body movement, without any external devices or paint brushes. The potential of human expression is constantly pushed upward, with trickers releasing new samplers almost weekly. Filmmaking tools more accessible, more people are able to experiment with motion picture, combing two very powerful art forms.
Both Tricking and Cinema deal with time and dynamism. Each film displays the beauty in tricking, as each filmmaker explores themselves through image, editing, and sound. Since the early days of Tricking, the trickers took things into their own and invented a short format "The Sampler" that has spread the art form unlike anything we could fathom. Samplers are vastly created and shared worldwide. The positive open mindedness of the community, creates an instant collaboration of ideas, movements, techniques, positivity and stories which push the craft to be ever evolving. As an early tricker, the samplers were more like creative demo or highlight reels, highly inspiring, goofy, ariel movement attempts and combos. Treating tricking content as a film will allow the tricker / filmmaker to challenge oneself and have a voice with her/his story through tricking.

Evidence that fisheries management in support of trophy fishing for Kenai River Chinook likely is a contributing factor to the decline of the Kenai River's Chinook populations. See the following note.
Note:
The evidence of trophy fishing contributing to genetic selection is particularly clear -- and important -- with regard to Kenai's small population early-run Chinook, which is on the verge of threatened status.
Still, sorting out the influence of genetic selection from other contributing factors should not be over-simplified. There are serious issues with Fish and Game's data. Their baseline data has large discrepancies between sonar and weir counts, and other discrepancies between the old sonar data and the new, and issues with regard to calibrating sonar counts with in-river test net catches. Fish and Game publishes data in terms of annual percentages, but seems to significantly ignore brood year data, which distinguishes contributions to returns by brood year, which is important.
Seeing disproportionate number of jacks should not invite the conclusion that management should declare an open season on jacks for the in-river fishery.
At this point, I believe Fish and Game needs help, and I hope they could get support for an independent review of the Kenai River Fisheries management by a Chinook Salmon Expert Panel composed of people of expertise of the caliber we recently have seen in the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim Chinook Salmon Research Action Plan, which I have included in the google drive directory below.
