Joints and levers in the human body
Bones, ligaments, and muscles are the structures that form levers in the body to create human movement. In simple terms, a joint (where two or more bones join together) forms the axis (or fulcrum), and the muscles crossing the joint apply the force to move a weight or resistance. Levers are typically labeled as first class, second class, or third class. All three types are found in the body, but most levers in the human body are third class.
A first-class lever has the axis (fulcrum) located between the weight (resistance) and the force (figure 1.21a). An example of a first-class lever is a pair of pliers or scissors. First-class levers in the human body are rare. One example is the joint between the head and the first vertebra (the atlantooccipital joint) (figure 1.21b). The weight (resistance) is the head, the axis is the joint, and the muscular action (force) come from any of the posterior muscles attaching to the skull, such as the trapezius.
Muscles and bones act together to form levers. A lever is a rigid rod (usually a length of bone) that turns about a pivot (usually a joint). Levers can be used so that a small force can move a much bigger force. This is called mechanical advantage.
There are four parts to a lever – lever arm, pivot, effort and load. In our bodies:
bones act as lever arms
joints act as pivots
muscles provide the effort forces to move loads
load forces are often the weights of the body parts that are moved or forces needed to lift, push or pull things outside our bodies.
Levers can also be used to magnify movement, for example, when kicking a ball, small contractions of leg muscles produce a much larger movement at the end of the leg.
Levers are able to give us a strength advantage or a movement advantage but not both together.

The concept of the force is the principle of moment of force about the fixed point that means the fulcrum. For the same moment, the large force is applied over a small distance or the small force for the long distance. The formula to find the moments of force is the product of force and the perpendicular distance. We can write the formula as force × distance.

A simple machine is a mechanical device that changes the direction or magnitude of a force. In general, they can be defined as the simplest mechanisms that provide mechanical advantage (also called leverage).
Usually the term refers to the six classical simple machines which were defined by Renaissance scientists:
A simple machine is an elementary device that has a specific movement (often called a mechanism), which can be combined with other devices and movements to form a machine. Thus simple machines are considered to be the "building blocks" of more complicated machines. This analytical view of machines as decomposable into simple machines first arose in the Renaissance as a neoclassical amplification of ancient Greek texts on technology, and is still a central part of engineering in today's age of applied science. For example, wheels, levers, and pulleys are all used in the mechanism of a bicycle. Between the simple machines and complex assemblies, several intermediate classes can be defined, which may be termed "compound machines" or "machine elements". The mechanical advantage of a compound machine is simply the product of the mechanical advantages of the simple machines of which it is composed.

Bones, ligaments, and muscles are the structures that form levers in the body to create human movement. In simple terms, a joint (where two or more bones join together) forms the axis (or fulcrum), and the muscles crossing the joint apply the force to move a weight or resistance. Levers are typically labeled as first class, second class, or third class. All three types are found in the body, but most levers in the human body are third class.
A first-class lever has the axis (fulcrum) located between the weight (resistance) and the force (figure 1.21a). An example of a first-class lever is a pair of pliers or scissors. First-class levers in the human body are rare. One example is the joint between the head and the first vertebra (the atlantooccipital joint) (figure 1.21b). The weight (resistance) is the head, the axis is the joint, and the muscular action (force) come from any of the posterior muscles attaching to the skull, such as the trapezius.
Muscles and bones act together to form levers. A lever is a rigid rod (usually a length of bone) that turns about a pivot (usually a joint). Levers can be used so that a small force can move a much bigger force. This is called mechanical advantage.
There are four parts to a lever – lever arm, pivot, effort and load. In our bodies:
bones act as lever arms
joints act as pivots
muscles provide the effort forces to move loads
load forces are often the weights of the body parts that are moved or forces needed to lift, push or pull things outside our bodies.
Levers can also be used to magnify movement, for example, when kicking a ball, small contractions of leg muscles produce a much larger movement at the end of the leg.
Levers are able to give us a strength advantage or a movement advantage but not both together.

Not for the sake of the manufacturer, but for all of you who, like me, have wished there was a better way to get something done. In this movie I am reviewing and doing a little how to video on the Motion Pro BeadPRO tire levers. These levers are designed to help you push the tire away from the rim and break the bead. Some tires are pretty hard to break the bead but with this puppies it makes it easy! I also would like to add that as a tire lever they are OK. These electrical connectors are great. 28 - 12 AWG (stranded and solid) 600 V (1000 V signs and fixtures) 20 A maximum. They couldn't be much more versatile, reliable and easy to use. I first ran across them setting up a pyrotechnics display. They make splicing wires FAST and are VERY SECURE. Plus, they're re-usable. I've even used them for splicing microphone wires to carry audio signal, in situations where I'm not extremely concerned about RF shielding. No problems. The spring-loaded connector holds enough pressure that the connecting is as good as a crimp or solder joint. The other place they excel is in tight quarters. Ever tried holding a light fixture close enough to the ceiling (while standing on a ladder) that the wires from the box reach the fixture, and then try to twist conductors together with wire nuts at the same time?? I never seem to have enough hands to accomplish this. You'll love this improvement.. Attach the connectors to the wires coming out of the ceiling box, THEN lift the light close enough that you can insert the wires from the fixtures and snap the levers closed (one at a time), and you're DONE. You'll be happy you paid a few pennies more for these. The two-conductor version works best for the situation described above, if space in the electrical box is limited and you're not going to chain anything else on the circuit at that point. Get the three- or five-conductor version if you have the room and need the extra wire-space capacity to add additional devices onto the circuit.

How To Install Aero Brake Levers On Vintage Bike
I show the process of upgrading a vintage road bike from non-aero brake levers to aero brake levers. I bought this Nishiki Sport bike at a thrift store. The brake levers it came with were non aero brake levers and looked like they originally had safety levers which had been removed. $101.89 for a KTM 590R clutch lever? (P/N 76502031000 CLUTCH LEVER CPL. LONG ) Ridiculous.! I found a Chinese made set on eBay for $25 and ordered them in. If they didn't fit, as the 2015 model was not listed, they were cheap enough to throw away. ...but, they do! The 2014 and 2015 KTM 690R levers are the same and the install was a success, although I struggle a bit on the left lever when the plunger wasn't in its pocket. Watch this tutorial if you have doubts. Note: I measured the length of the levers from the pivot and the left (clutch) lever is 12mm longer than the right (brake). That is why there is not as much clearance with the bark busters on the clutch lever. I contacted the seller Li Wenting, to see if they could correct this. I'll order the folding style and see if that is a b... -

Yamaha R3 Adjustable Levers INSTALLATION VIDEO!
So i bought these adjustable levers back in dec 2015 and then winter came along and it got too cold to do anything with the R3. Now thanks to global warming I can finally get around to installing these earlier. Some people have expressed concern about these $20 eBay levers so i decided to install them and give it a try. If they didn't fit, as the 2015 model was not listed, they were cheap enough to throw away. ...but, they do! The 2014 and 2015 KTM 690R levers are the same and the install was a success, although I struggle a bit on the left lever when the plunger wasn't in its pocket. Watch this tutorial if you have doubts.
Note: I measured the length of the levers from the pivot and the left (clutch) lever is 12mm longer than the right (brake). That is why there is not as much clearance with the bark busters on the clutch lever. I contacted the seller Li Wenting, to see if they could correct this. I'll order the folding style and see if that is a better fit. The other option id the extendable levers which have a range of 3cm which could be adjusted to be the same.

Update 10 weeks later: I went for a long ride over 3 passes and every time I stalled my bike, I had to put it in neutral before I could start it again. Very inconvenient when stuck in the middle of a hill. It turns out the lever was not pushing in the clutch switch. By rotating the little lever on the clutch lever fully to the right, it was back working again. See my 3 St. Elmo Loop videos, soon to be uploaded.

I decided to update this vintage road bike. The bike came with non-aero brakes and safety levers. I had these Cane Creek ergonomic style brake levers lying around anyway. It's a relatively easy and cheap upgrade and goes a long way to improving the bike. The bike is a 1987 Lotus Excelle Sport Series (made in Japan).

Now thanks to global warming I can finally get around to installing these earlier. Some people have expressed concern about these $20 eBay levers so i decided to install them and give it a try.
