In 2008, Amazon decided to remove the controversial “I love Hitler” t shirts from their stocks after being attacked by the World Jewish Congress. In 2013, a Japanese man created a bizarre pencil sharpener, which was nicknamed the ‘Pervert Pencil Sharpner’ by Western society. The bizarre piece of stationary involved you inserting your pencil into a girl’s behind in order to sharpen it. Various copies of the rude sharpener sold for around 6 dollars on Amazon before they pulled it from their shelves. In 2015 police throughout the world become incredibly concerned with people casually posing with guns on social media. However these “guns” were simply a poorly designed iPhone case which was being sold on Amazon for about 5 dollars. Amazon removed the item from their site after police departments around the world urged them to, as they were becoming inundated with false gun cases. In June of 2015, Dylann Roof shot and killed 9 black people in the Charleston church shooting, in hopes of enacting a race war. One of the most shared photos of Dylann was an image of him posing with a confederate flag. This lead to Amazon banning the flag, along with the controversial historical connotations. In 2014, Rajan Zed, president of the universal society of hinduism urged Amazon to stop selling Hindu God Leggings, and to offer a formal apology. Other upset Hindu’s joined Rajan’s pleas and Amazon listened, removing the item from their site. In 2010, a disturbing discovery was made on Amazon’s e-book section, Kindle. An E-book titled: “The pedophile’s guide to love and pleasure: a child lover’s code of conduct”. Amazon chose to swiftly remove the e-book from their store and stated that it was inappropriate for their site. Until 2012, whale meat was sold on Amazon in Japan and other Asian countries. The Enviromental Investigation Agency found a shocking 147 whale products for sale on the site. They then posted a 50 second video alerting Amazon to the amount of whale and dolphin products which were sold on the site. After the video went viral and was seen by Amazon, The endangered animal was totally removed from the site, along with dolphin meat. Some Amazon sellers who claimed to have cancer "cures" to take advantage of desperate. Some "cures" involved dried crocodile blood and others were crushed apricot kernels. It’s highly illegal to claim to offer cures and treatments for the disease, and thus the products were quickly removed from the site. In 2014, this magnet toy was removed from Amazon after almost 8000 children were admitted to hospital after swallowing the small magnets. Bucky Balls are small magnetic balls, designed for children to mould them into different shapes. The toy was banned from Amazon, and the government are currently debating banning it completely. In 2009, Amazon banned a highly controversial Japanese video game called Rapelay. As you might of guessed from the title, the point of the game is to rap young women on the subways of Japan. The bizarre and graphic game was one of the first products ever to be banned from Amazon.
