Richard Hell (born Richard Lester Meyers) is an American singer, songwriter, bass guitarist, and writer.
Richard Hell was an innovator of punk music and fashion. He was one of the first to spike his hair and wear torn, cut and drawn-on shirts, often held together with safety pins.Malcolm McLaren, manager of the Sex Pistols, has credited Hell as a source of inspiration for the Sex Pistols' look and attitude, as well as the safety-pin and graphics accessorized clothing that McLaren sold in his London shop, Sex. Hell was in several important, early punk bands, including Neon Boys, Television, and The Heartbreakers, after which he formed Richard Hell & The Voidoids. Their 1977 album Blank Generation influenced many other punk bands. Its title song was named "One of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock" by music writers in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame listing and is ranked as one of the all-time Top 10 punk songs by a 2006 poll of original British punk figures, as reported in the Rough Guide to Punk.
Richard Hell and the Voidoids were an American punk rock band, formed in New York City in 1976 and fronted by Richard Hell, a former member of the Neon Boys, Television and the Heartbreakers.
Kentucky-born Richard Meyers moved to New York City after dropping out of high school in 1966, aspiring to become a poet. He and his best friend from high school, Tom Miller, founded the rock band the Neon Boys which became Television in 1973. The pair adopted stage names; Miller called himself Verlaine after Paul Verlaine, a French poet he admired, and Meyers became Richard Hell because, as he has said, it described his condition.
The group was the first rock band to play the club CBGB, which soon became a breeding ground for the early punk rock scene in New York. Hell had an energetic stage presence and wore torn clothing held together with safety pins and his hair spiked, which was to be influential in punk fashion—in 1973, after a failed management deal with the New York Dolls, impresario Malcolm McLaren brought these ideas back with him to England and eventually incorporated them into the Sex Pistols' image.
Blank Generation may refer to:
In many mythological, folklore and religious traditions, hell is a place of torment and punishment in an afterlife. It is viewed by most Abrahamic traditions as punishment.Religions with a linear divine history often depict hells as eternal destinations. Religions with a cyclic history often depict a hell as an intermediary period between incarnations. Typically these traditions locate hell in another dimension or under the Earth's surface and often include entrances to Hell from the land of the living. Other afterlife destinations include Heaven, Purgatory, Paradise, and Limbo.
Other traditions, which do not conceive of the afterlife as a place of punishment or reward, merely describe hell as an abode of the dead, the grave, a neutral place located under the surface of Earth (for example, see sheol and Hades). Hell is sometimes portrayed as populated with demons who torment those dwelling there. Many are ruled by a death god such as Nergal, Hades, Hel, Enma or the Devil.
The Germanic first or given name Richard derives from German, French, and English "ric" (ruler, leader, king) and "hard" (strong, brave), and it therefore means "powerful leader". Nicknames include "Dick", "Dickie", "Rich", "Richie", "Rick", "Ricky", "Rickey", and others.
"Richard" is a common name in many Germanic languages, including English, German, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Icelandic, and Dutch. It can also be used as a French, Hungarian, Finnish, and Estonian name.

Plot: CBGB follows the story of Hilly Kristal's New York club from its conceit as a venue for Country, Bluegrass and Blues (CBGB) to what it ultimately became: the birthplace of underground rock 'n roll and punk. When Kristal had difficulty booking country bands in his club on the Bowery he opened his doors to other kinds of rock music. Kristal had one demand of the acts he booked; they could only play original music. No top 40's, no covers. It was the credo he lived by, support the artist at whatever the cost. Hilly Kristal ironically became known as the godfather of punk giving a chance to such bands as Blondie, Television, Ramones, Talking Heads, Dead Boys and The Police.

Through a romance with a young woman working at the concert, he learns to embrace all of his feelings toward the father who abandoned him - longing, anger, forgiveness, and love. Richard Hell is one of the founding fathers of Punk Music. Born Richard Meyers in Kentucky, after dropping out of school he moved to New York with literary ambitions. In 1972 he formed the band 'The Neon Boys' with his schoolfriend Tom Miller and drummer Billy Ficca. The following year the band became 'Television', with Meyers and Miller assuming the names Richard Hell and Tom Verlaine, and they recruited young guitarist Richard Lloyd. Television discovered the legendary CBGB, the club out of which American Punk music developed, in 1974. During his time in Television, Hell also developed a unique look, wearing battered and torn clothing, which was the key visual inspiration for the Sex Pistols. He left Television in 1975 and joined former New York Dolls Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan in ...

Richard Hell talks to Diane "Kamikaze" Farris about the Ivan Julian Medical Benefit shows to be held at NYC's City Winery May 4th and May 7th 2016. Ivan, an original VOIDOID, is undergoing cancer treatment and along with being incapacitated by the disease and it's regimens of therapies and medications, his medical bills have been overwhelming. He's unable to work at this time, and an amazing group of people are gathering together to raise money on his behalf. The shows are an unparalleled list of music history, starting with Richard Hell himself, who has agreed to be on both bills (during this interview you'll hear him say he was not sure if he would perform on both dates), which marks his comeback from "musical retirement!" Others who are performing: Thurston Moore, Debbie Harry, Ian Hun...

Smallwood, a joiner, takes carpenter out for a meal
As soon as we dock see the captain to get a better deal
My darkness in mind is concealed
I'm in here alone and unreal
But not anymore
Not anymore
Up above and outside we looked towards the stern of the
ship
Weighed up the anchor and then I decided to slip
Land well in middle and row
I'm tired of deceiving my soul
But not anymore
Not anymore
Won't be at this station too long
Took too many journeys alone
But not anymore
Not anymore
I leap the boat clear without paying my bills, I just
left here
Precious sight in my eyes as I take the last dive, I shed
no tears
I'm taking a guess
This life is a mess
But not anymore
