Richard Dix (July 18, 1893 – September 20, 1949) was an American motion picture actor who achieved popularity in both silent and sound film. His standard on-screen image was that of the rugged and stalwart hero. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his lead role in the Best Picture-winning epic, Cimarron (1931).
Dix was born Ernst Carlton Brimmer on July 18, 1893, in St. Paul, Minnesota. There he was educated, and at the desire of his father, studied to be a surgeon. His obvious acting talent in his school dramatic club led him to leading roles in most of the school plays. At 6' and 180 pounds, Dix excelled in sports, especially football and baseball. These skills would serve him well in the vigorous film roles he would go on to play. After a year at the University of Minnesota, he took a position at a bank, spending his evenings training for the stage. His professional start was with a local stock company, and this led to similar work in New York City. The death of his father left him with a mother and sister to support. He went to Los Angeles and became leading man for the Morosco Stock Company. His success there got him a contract with Paramount Pictures.

Hi There! Do you find yourself at times in the mood for a good Western? If you are, here's an enjoyable, engrossing one! :) (I rarely watch or upload Westerns, but this is an exception!) The actors and story are believable. Oh, and if you like Old Time Radio and have listened to The Cisco Kid, or watched the TV show, listen for that familiar voice ;) The Story takes place during the post-American Civil War era...the (re)building of lives in the West. Preston Foster, Richard Dix, Frances Gifford, Jack La Rue and others you'll recognize from 30s movies here on our 100s of Classics Channel. Enjoy!
Richard Dix is mostly remembered for his Westerns today. Actually, he made allot of comedies during the 20's. Several of them Co-Starring the beautiful Esther Ralston as his leading lady. Including the delightful WOMANHANDLED (1925). Kind of a combination of both genre's. Dix sort of inherited the same type of rolls that had made Wallace Reid famous. After Wallace death in 1923, Dix became Paramount's top Male Star during the second half of the 20's. Largely outdistancing Valentino. Who left the studio in a contract dispute in 1923. Citing creative differences. Returning in mid 1924 to make only 3 more films before leaving for United Artists. While Rudy sadly passed away after just two features with U. A. Dix lived, and remained a profitable Star well into the 1930's with RKO.
Stars: Richard Dix, Jane Wyatt, Albert Dekker Director: George Archainbaud Writers: Harold Shumate (screenplay), Frank Gruber (from the story "Peace Marshal") Wounded while stopping the James gang from robbing the local bank, a cowboy wakes up in the hospital to find that he's been elected town marshal. He soon comes into conflict with the town banker, who controls everything in town and is squeezing the townspeople for every penny he can get out of them.
