Millicent Lilian "Peg" Entwistle (5 February 1908 – c. 16 September 1932) was a Welsh-born English stage and screen actress. Entwistle began her stage career in 1925, appearing in several Broadway productions. She appeared in only one film, Thirteen Women, which was released after her death.
Entwistle gained notoriety after she jumped to her death from the "H" on the Hollywoodland sign in September 1932, at the age of 24.
Born Millicent Lilian Entwistle in Port Talbot, Glamorgan, Wales, to English parents, Robert Symes and Emily Entwistle (née Stevenson), she spent her early life in West Kensington, London. It is often reported that her mother Emily died when she was very young, but there is no documented evidence supporting this. There is, however, a Last Will and Testament dated 15 December 1922, in the Entwistle family archives, in which Robert Entwistle specifically stated that "Millicent Lilian Entwistle is the daughter of my first wife whom I divorced and the custody of my said daughter was awarded to me. I do not desire my said daughter to be at any time in the custody or control of her said mother."
The Hollywood Sign (formerly the Hollywoodland Sign) is a landmark and American cultural icon located in Los Angeles, California. It is situated on Mount Lee, in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains. The sign overlooks Hollywood, Los Angeles.
"HOLLYWOOD" is spelled out in 45-foot-tall (14 m) white capital letters and is 350 feet (110 m) long. It was originally created in 1923 as an advertisement for a local real estate development, but it garnered increasing recognition after the sign was left up. The sign was a frequent target of pranks and vandalism, but it has since undergone restoration, including the installation of a security system to deter vandalism. The sign is protected and promoted by The Trust For Public Land, a nonprofit organization, while its site and the surrounding land are part of Griffith Park.
From the ground, the contours of the hills give the sign a "wavy" appearance, as reflected in the Hollywood Video logo, for example. When observed at a comparable altitude, the letters appear nearly level.
Thirteen Women is a 1932 American Pre-Code psychological thriller film, produced by David O. Selznick and directed by George Archainbaud. It stars Myrna Loy, Irene Dunne and Ricardo Cortez. The film is based on the 1930 bestselling novel of the same name by Tiffany Thayer and was adapted for the screen by Bartlett Cormack and Samuel Ornitz. Several characters were deleted from the film's final release, including those played by Leon Ames, Phyllis Fraser, and Betty Furness (in what would have been Furness' film debut at the age of 16). The film portrays only eleven women, not thirteen, with Fraser and Furness playing the two characters edited out of the film.
The film premiered in October at the Roxy Theater in New York City on October 15, 1932, then released in Los Angeles, and a few other cities in November 1932. A limited national release came in 1933. Originally running seventy-three minutes, the studio edited fourteen minutes out of the picture prior to release. The film was re-released in 1935 (post-Code) by RKO, hoping to turn a profit by cashing in on the growing popularity of stars Dunne and Loy. Thirteen Women has been cited as an early "female ensemble" film.
Hollywood (/ˈhɒliwʊd/ HOL-ee-wuud) is a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California. The neighborhood is notable for its place as the home of the U.S. film industry, including several of its historic studios. Its name has come to be a metonym for the motion picture industry of the United States. Hollywood is also a highly ethnically diverse, densely populated, economically diverse neighborhood and retail business district.
Hollywood was a small community in 1870 and was incorporated as a municipality in 1903. It officially merged with the city of Los Angeles in 1910, and soon thereafter a prominent film industry began to emerge, eventually becoming the most recognizable film industry in the world.
In 1853, one adobe hut stood in Nopalera (Nopal field), named for the Mexican Nopal cactus indigenous to the area. By 1870, an agricultural community flourished. The area was known as the Cahuenga Valley, after the pass in the Santa Monica Mountains immediately to the north.

Plot: Peg Entwistle, the only person to have committed suicide from the Hollywood Sign, was an accomplished stage actress who has been misrepresented as a failed starlet since her death in 1932. This short film, made in conjunction with the documentary "Under the Hollywood Sign" (2009), attempts to restore the truth of her story by presenting a straightforward account of her final hour, when she walked three miles from her home in Beachwood Canyon to the lighted Sign that served as a billboard for the Hollywoodland housing tract. Dignified even in her despair, Peg walks up Beachwood Drive through the stone gates of Hollywoodland, pausing to read the suicide note she carries in her handbag. She passes storybook houses as she climbs, darkened streets giving way to dirt paths as she nears the Sign. Finally, at the base of the letter "H," she takes off her coat, throws down her handbag and prepares to climb the ladder that will facilitate her death. She was 24 years old when she jumped; her suicide was the catalyst in the Sign's transformation from real estate billboard to icon.

This fantastic movie is based on the bestselling novel of the same name written by Tiffany Thayer. The movie is not faithful to the book. There are a few differences. The plot for this one is about a woman, Ursula Georgi (Myrna Loy), revolted by the fact that she was snubbed by the other women owing to her mixed-race heritage decides to revenge by tricking the women into killing each other and themselves. Curious fact: the 12th and 13th women scenes were deleted from the film, leaving it with only 11. Also, Peg Entwistle's scenes in the original cut had 20 minutes, then it was cut to 16 minutes and then reduced to 4 minutes. Each women received a horoscope, sent by a clairvoyant "swami" (C. Henry Gordon), on which it tells that each one of them will die by commiting suicide or by the ...

A video tribute to Peg Entwistle, mostly remembered as the "Hollywood Sign Girl" for her tragic suicide fall from the "H" of the HOLLYWOODLAND sign on September 16, 1932. She was just 24 years old. This video was created by author James Zeruk, Jr. Some of the images and the stories behind them can be found in his book "Peg Entwistle and the Hollywood Sign Suicide: A Biography" (McFarland & Co., 2014)
Hosted by Tom Ogden, this is the story of Peg Entwistle, the 24-year-old actress who committed suicide in 1932 by jumping from the "H" on the Hollywood sign, which at that time read "HOLLYWOODLAND." Her ghost still haunts the trail to the sign, the underbrush where she fell and was discovered, the top of the "H," and Beachwood Drive, where she lived.

Thirteen Women: http://bit.ly/xgUgF4 Shortly before shedding her snakeskin vamp persona for good by wrapping herself in the ermine confines of Nora Charles, Myrna Loy terrified and terrorized as the murderous mesmerist Ursula Georgi in the pre-Code horror show Thirteen Women. Following a racist sorority's cruel rebuff, half-caste Ursula embarks on a blood-thirsty trail of deceit and murder until only one woman (Irene Dunne) is left to face her. Aside from the allure and interest of its two leading ladies -- each on the cusp of their ascension into cinema legend -- Thirteen Women's delights are rather more diabolical and devastating than the more domestic concerns of a traditional "Women's Picture." From its breathless and terrifying (and arrestingly staged) opening aerial atrocity thro...
