Mens Sprint Final Gold Medal - 2014 UCI Track World Championships, Cali, Colombia
This is a clip from the 2014 Track World Championships, Cali, Colombia
Track cycling dates back to at least 1870 and, with the exception of 1912, has played a part in every Olympics in the modern era. Track Cycling events can be roughly split into 2 disciplines -- Sprinting and Endurance
Sprint Events:
Individual Sprint - This is a very tactical event in which riders try to outmanoeuvre their opponents. Sometimes riders will come to a standstill in an effort to make their opponent take the lead, which is the least advantageous position before the final sprint to the finish line.
Team Sprint - This spectacular form of racing sees two teams start off on opposite sides of the track. It is raced by teams of three riders over three laps for Elite Men and two riders over two laps for Elite Women. Each rider leads for a lap before dropping back.
Kilometre / 500m Time Trial - This is an individual time trial from a standing start. Elite Men race over 1km and Elite Women over 500 m. The competitor with the fastest time is the winner.
Keirin - Keirin racing originated in Japan. Contested over 2 km, the field of three to seven riders follows a pacing motorbike at an increasing speed, all the while jostling for position. When the motorbike pulls off the track with two and a half laps to go, the battle begins to win the sprint to the finish.
Endurance Events:
Individual Pursuit - Two riders start on opposite sides of the track and compete over 4 km for Elite Men and 3 km for Elite Women. The winner is the rider who manages to catch his/her opponent or who records the fastest time.
Team Pursuit - Two teams of 4 riders (3 riders for women) start on opposite sides of the track and compete over 4 km (3 km for women). The winning team is the one that manages to catch its opponents or that records the fastest time.
Points Race - This superbly tactical discipline is contested over a long distance, usually 40 km for men and 25 km for women in major events. The final result is determined according to points gained during sprints (one every 10 laps on a 250 m track) and when a rider manages to lap the rest of the field.
Madison - Up to 18 teams of two riders take part in this relay race contested by means of intermediary sprints. While one team member races, the other slows down to take a rest. When he rejoins the race, his teammate throws him into the action with a hand sling. The classification is established according to the distance covered and the points won in the sprints (every 20 laps). The Madison is held over distances of 25-50 km for Elite Men, depending on the competition.
Scratch Race - This is a race for up to 24 individual riders over 15 km for men and 10 km for women. The first across the finish line is the winner.
Omnium - The Omnium is made up of 6 events and is disputed over 2 consecutive days. The final classification is established by adding up the finishing places in each event. The winner is the rider who has the lowest total. At the 2012 London Olympics, the Omnium comprised a Flying lap, a Points race, an Individual pursuit, a Scratch Race, a Kilometre / 500m time trial and an Elimination Race.

Elite Mens Final - 2013 UCI BMX World Championships
Inspired by their Motocross heroes, Californian kids in the 1970s started racing their bikes over the same courses when they weren't in use. It quickly grew into a worldwide phenomenon, further enhanced by their use in the iconic scene in the film 'ET' when the friendly alien makes them fly to escape their pursuers.
Down on planet Earth, there are 2 types of BMX racing:
BMX Race
The BMX race is performed on a BMX track, measuring between 300 and 400m, with alternating jumps, banked corners and flat sections. 8 riders battle for first place. Besides the traditional BMX races, there are also Supercross races for Junior and Elite riders. These competitions are held on a spectacular BMX track with an 8m high start ramp and several pro sections with technical jumps. The Junior and Elite World Championships and the Olympic Games are raced on a Supercross track.
BMX Time Trial
The BMX Time Trial is raced on a Supercross BMX track. During BMX Time Trial races, riders set off one at a time and cover the track as quickly as possible.

Full LIVE Re-run of the 2014 UCI BMX World Championships.
After a night that witnessed four new UCI BMX World Champions in the Time Trial division it was time for the 244 racers to get on track in the groups of motos and to race it out for the World Championships title. The tight BMX track in a packed Ahoy Arena would make for some fast and tight, bar to bar racing action, putting a huge emphasis on the start and race to the crucial first turn. The previous day of Time Trial racing would still play an important part of the racing format for the Championships racing day, as the seeding order for the days motos were based on the time trial super finals results, for the riders that qualified for the super finals, and the time trial qualification run for the other riders.
The slightly revised 2014 UCI BMX race format for the World titles would award the top 16 World ranked Elite Men and top 8 Elite Women riders from 2013 UCI overall rankings a direct route to the 1/8th final single elimination qualifiers. The remaining Elite riders that qualified for the World Championships race would all be bracketed up and go head to head in 3 motos of racing on the Rotterdam track.
Men Junior
For the young Dutchman, Niek Kimmann, winning the Men Junior world title in the Time Trial was a great victory, but not his main goal of the weekend. Entering into the day of racing competition, the Men Junior class was full of potential World Champions, but only one could take home the title. Last years World Champion, Sean Gaian, was just coming back from injury, but was racing strong all day. As they both transferred into the main event, it would be the first time they would meet up. As the gate dropped, Niek had the best gate of the day, and took the early lead, never to be challenged. Winning both titles, Niek unified the Men Junior titles.
Women Junior
Being UCI World ranked #1 has brings great pressure to some riders entering into the World Championships, but for the young woman from Ecuador, Domenica Michelle Azuero Gonzalez, its did not faze her one bit. Sandie Thibaut was on hot streak after winning the World Champion title on Saturday night in the Women Junior class, but when it came down to the Jr Women's main event, it was a battle between only two riders, Domenica and Shealen Reno from the USA. Domenica had the start of the night for the Women Jr and took the early lead, while Shealen struggled on her first few pedal stroke, but quickly came to form, and began to chase down the gap for the lead. But Domenica proved to the world wide stage that the ranking of UCI #1 was well earned, as she held onto the lead, and took the World #1 title!. Shealen settled for 2nd, with the Russian woman Tatiana Kapitanova in 3rd.
Women Elite
The Women Elite field was full of talent and past World Champions and it would be a full on drag race each and every lap on the Championships day. Early upsets would include Caroline Buchanan, Felica Stancil, Merle Van Benthem, and Magalie Pottier all not moving onto the final. But don't underestimate the talent that was still in the main event, as five past World Champions lined up when the gate was ready to drop. Mariana Pajon was looking blazing fast on the track all weekend and when the gate fell, she turned up the power and took to the early lead. Alise Post from the USA was back after a long drawn out injury obtained from the 1st UCI BMX World Cup of the season, but her hard work and determination paid off, as she slipped into Pajon's slip-stream and took the 2nd place spot. The hometown crowd favorite, Laura Smulders, battled her way back from a bad start, to the 3rd place position, and that would be how the women finished up. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist, Pajon, regained her World Championships title, and gave Colombia something to cheer extensively about.
Men Elite
The Men Elite class looked to be an all out battle of the world fastest riders today, as the best of BMX were speckled through the entire Men Elite field. Maris Strombergs was looking to be a threat to win another world title as he was flying around the track, but in his semi event, as he entered the last turn in 2nd place and looking to advance, his front tire seemed to blow out and cause a heroundious crash, taking the Olympic Champion out of the running for the days title. Connor Fields (USA) and Sam Willoughby both were riding strong and would line up next to each other for the main event. As the gate slammed, Fields took the early lead, with Willoughby in 2nd and Aussie powerhouse Anthony Dean in 3rd. Willoughby closed the gap on Fields down the 2nd straightway and as the 2 entered turn #2, the riders seemed to enter the same space and unfortunately for Fields, he went down, taking Dean and most of the pack with him. Willoughby stayed up and took the lead and easily went onto win his 3rd Men Elite world Title. Tory Nyhaug from Canada dodged the wreckage and finished up 2nd with Tre Whyte from Great Britain finishing 3rd.

Sandie Thibaut was on hot streak after winning the World Champion title on Saturday night in the Women Junior class, but when it came down to the Jr Women's main event, it was a battle between only two riders, Domenica and Shealen Reno from the USA. Domenica had the start of the night for the Women Jr and took the early lead, while Shealen struggled on her first few pedal stroke, but quickly came to form, and began to chase down the gap for the lead. But Domenica proved to the world wide stage that the ranking of UCI #1 was well earned, as she held onto the lead, and took the World #1 title!. Shealen settled for 2nd, with the Russian woman Tatiana Kapitanova in 3rd. Women Elite The Women Elite field was full of talent and past World Champions and it would be a full on drag race each and every lap on the Championships day. Early upsets would include Caroline Buchanan, Felica Stancil, Merle Van Benthem, and Magalie Pottier all not moving onto the final. But don't underestimate the talent that was still in the main event, as five past World Champions lined up when the gate was ready to drop. Mariana Pajon was looking blazing fast on the track all weekend and when the gate fell, she turned up the power and took to the early lead. Alise Post from the USA was back after a long drawn out injury obtained from the 1st UCI BMX World Cup of the season, but her hard work and determination paid off, as she slipped into Pajon's slip-stream and took the 2nd place spot. The hometown crowd favorite, Laura Smulders, battled her way back from a bad start, to the 3rd place position, and that would be how the women finished up. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist, Pajon, regained her World Championships title, and gave Colombia something to cheer extensively about. Men Elite The Men Elite class looked to be an all out battle of the world fastest riders today, as the best of BMX were speckled through the entire Men Elite field. Maris Strombergs was looking to be a threat to win another world title as he was flying around the track, but in his semi event, as he entered the last turn in 2nd place and looking to advance, his front tire seemed to blow out and cause a heroundious crash, taking the Olympic Champion out of the running for the days title. Connor Fields (USA) and Sam Willoughby both were riding strong and would line up next to each other for the main event. As the gate slammed, Fields took the early lead, with Willoughby in 2nd and Aussie powerhouse Anthony Dean in 3rd. Willoughby closed the gap on Fields down the 2nd straightway and as the 2 entered turn #2, the riders seemed to enter the same space and unfortunately for Fields, he went down, taking Dean and most of the pack with him. Willoughby stayed up and took the lead and easily went onto win his 3rd Men Elite world Title. Tory Nyhaug from Canada dodged the wreckage and finished up 2nd with Tre Whyte from Great Britain finishing 3rd. -

Track cycling dates back to at least 1870 and, with the exception of 1912, has played a part in every Olympics in the modern era. Track Cycling events can be roughly split into 2 disciplines -- Sprinting and Endurance
Sprint Events:
Individual Sprint - This is a very tactical event in which riders try to outmanoeuvre their opponents. Sometimes riders will come to a standstill in an effort to make their opponent take the lead, which is the least advantageous position before the final sprint to the finish line.
Team Sprint - This spectacular form of racing sees two teams start off on opposite sides of the track. It is raced by teams of three riders over three laps for Elite Men and two riders over two laps for Elite Women. Each rider leads for a lap before dropping back.
Kilometre / 500m Time Trial - This is an individual time trial from a standing start. Elite Men race over 1km and Elite Women over 500 m. The competitor with the fastest time is the winner.
Keirin - Keirin racing originated in Japan. Contested over 2 km, the field of three to seven riders follows a pacing motorbike at an increasing speed, all the while jostling for position. When the motorbike pulls off the track with two and a half laps to go, the battle begins to win the sprint to the finish.
Endurance Events:
Individual Pursuit - Two riders start on opposite sides of the track and compete over 4 km for Elite Men and 3 km for Elite Women. The winner is the rider who manages to catch his/her opponent or who records the fastest time.
Team Pursuit - Two teams of 4 riders (3 riders for women) start on opposite sides of the track and compete over 4 km (3 km for women). The winning team is the one that manages to catch its opponents or that records the fastest time.
Points Race - This superbly tactical discipline is contested over a long distance, usually 40 km for men and 25 km for women in major events. The final result is determined according to points gained during sprints (one every 10 laps on a 250 m track) and when a rider manages to lap the rest of the field.
Madison - Up to 18 teams of two riders take part in this relay race contested by means of intermediary sprints. While one team member races, the other slows down to take a rest. When he rejoins the race, his teammate throws him into the action with a hand sling. The classification is established according to the distance covered and the points won in the sprints (every 20 laps). The Madison is held over distances of 25-50 km for Elite Men, depending on the competition.
Scratch Race - This is a race for up to 24 individual riders over 15 km for men and 10 km for women. The first across the finish line is the winner.
Omnium - The Omnium is made up of 6 events and is disputed over 2 consecutive days. The final classification is established by adding up the finishing places in each event. The winner is the rider who has the lowest total. At the 2012 London Olympics, the Omnium comprised a Flying lap, a Points race, an Individual pursuit, a Scratch Race, a Kilometre / 500m time trial and an Elimination Race.

After a night that witnessed four new UCI BMX World Champions in the Time Trial division it was time for the 244 racers to get on track in the groups of motos and to race it out for the World Championships title. The tight BMX track in a packed Ahoy Arena would make for some fast and tight, bar to bar racing action, putting a huge emphasis on the start and race to the crucial first turn. The previous day of Time Trial racing would still play an important part of the racing format for the Championships racing day, as the seeding order for the days motos were based on the time trial super finals results, for the riders that qualified for the super finals, and the time trial qualification run for the other riders.
The slightly revised 2014 UCI BMX race format for the World titles would award the top 16 World ranked Elite Men and top 8 Elite Women riders from 2013 UCI overall rankings a direct route to the 1/8th final single elimination qualifiers. The remaining Elite riders that qualified for the World Championships race would all be bracketed up and go head to head in 3 motos of racing on the Rotterdam track.
Men Junior
For the young Dutchman, Niek Kimmann, winning the Men Junior world title in the Time Trial was a great victory, but not his main goal of the weekend. Entering into the day of racing competition, the Men Junior class was full of potential World Champions, but only one could take home the title. Last years World Champion, Sean Gaian, was just coming back from injury, but was racing strong all day. As they both transferred into the main event, it would be the first time they would meet up. As the gate dropped, Niek had the best gate of the day, and took the early lead, never to be challenged. Winning both titles, Niek unified the Men Junior titles.
Women Junior
Being UCI World ranked #1 has brings great pressure to some riders entering into the World Championships, but for the young woman from Ecuador, Domenica Michelle Azuero Gonzalez, its did not faze her one bit. Sandie Thibaut was on hot streak after winning the World Champion title on Saturday night in the Women Junior class, but when it came down to the Jr Women's main event, it was a battle between only two riders, Domenica and Shealen Reno from the USA. Domenica had the start of the night for the Women Jr and took the early lead, while Shealen struggled on her first few pedal stroke, but quickly came to form, and began to chase down the gap for the lead. But Domenica proved to the world wide stage that the ranking of UCI #1 was well earned, as she held onto the lead, and took the World #1 title!. Shealen settled for 2nd, with the Russian woman Tatiana Kapitanova in 3rd.
Women Elite
The Women Elite field was full of talent and past World Champions and it would be a full on drag race each and every lap on the Championships day. Early upsets would include Caroline Buchanan, Felica Stancil, Merle Van Benthem, and Magalie Pottier all not moving onto the final. But don't underestimate the talent that was still in the main event, as five past World Champions lined up when the gate was ready to drop. Mariana Pajon was looking blazing fast on the track all weekend and when the gate fell, she turned up the power and took to the early lead. Alise Post from the USA was back after a long drawn out injury obtained from the 1st UCI BMX World Cup of the season, but her hard work and determination paid off, as she slipped into Pajon's slip-stream and took the 2nd place spot. The hometown crowd favorite, Laura Smulders, battled her way back from a bad start, to the 3rd place position, and that would be how the women finished up. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist, Pajon, regained her World Championships title, and gave Colombia something to cheer extensively about.
Men Elite
The Men Elite class looked to be an all out battle of the world fastest riders today, as the best of BMX were speckled through the entire Men Elite field. Maris Strombergs was looking to be a threat to win another world title as he was flying around the track, but in his semi event, as he entered the last turn in 2nd place and looking to advance, his front tire seemed to blow out and cause a heroundious crash, taking the Olympic Champion out of the running for the days title. Connor Fields (USA) and Sam Willoughby both were riding strong and would line up next to each other for the main event. As the gate slammed, Fields took the early lead, with Willoughby in 2nd and Aussie powerhouse Anthony Dean in 3rd. Willoughby closed the gap on Fields down the 2nd straightway and as the 2 entered turn #2, the riders seemed to enter the same space and unfortunately for Fields, he went down, taking Dean and most of the pack with him. Willoughby stayed up and took the lead and easily went onto win his 3rd Men Elite world Title. Tory Nyhaug from Canada dodged the wreckage and finished up 2nd with Tre Whyte from Great Britain finishing 3rd.

Amazon Rainforest - The Amazon River Basin holds more than half of the world's remaining rainforest, and over 60% of that lies within the North of Brazil — approximately one billion acres with incredible biodiversity. The region is home to about 2.5 million insect species, over 40,000 plants species, 2200 fish species, and more than 2,000 types of birds and mammals. One in five of all the bird species in the world live in the rainforests of the Amazon, and one in five of the fish species live in Amazonian rivers and streams.
Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) - A region of tropical and subtropical forest which extends along the Atlantic coast of Brazil from Rio Grande do Norte state in the Northeast to Rio Grande do Sul state in the South. The Atlantic Forest has a wide variety of vegetation, including the many tree species such as the iconic araucaria tree in the south or the mangroves of the northeast, dozens of types of bromeliads and orchids, and unique critters such as capivara. The forest has also been designated a World Biosphere Reserve, with a large number of highly endangered species including the well-known marmosets, lion tamarins and woolly spider monkeys. Unfortunately, it has been extensively cleared since colonial times, mainly for the farming of sugar cane and for urban settlements — The remnants are estimated to be less than 10% of the original, and that is often broken into hilltop islands. However, large swaths of it are protected by hundreds of parks, including 131 federal parks, 443 state parks, and 14 municipal parks, most of which are open to visitation.
Campos Gerais - With a vast vegetation of grasses and areas of transition between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest, this region offers beautiful scenery of cliffs and canyons, as Jaguaricatú Valley, beyond the fifth and the eighth most extensive canyons in the world, which are respectively Guartelá and Jaguariaíva . Jaguariaíva the canyon is made more beautiful rafting activity in Brazil.
Pantanal - A vast tropical wetland expanse, one of the world's largest. 80% of it lies within the state of Mato Grosso do Sul but it also extends into Mato Grosso (as well as into portions of Bolivia and Paraguay), sprawling over an area estimated at between 140,000 and 195,000 square kilometers (54,000-75,000 sq mi). 80% of the Pantanal floodplains are submerged during the rainy seasons, nurturing an astonishing biologically diverse collection of aquatic plants and helping support a dense array of animal species.
Waterfalls (Cachoeiras) - Brazil has an amazing range of impressive waterfalls of all sizes and shapes. Iguaçu Falls, in eastern Parana, is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, truly a sight to see. The 353-meter Cachoeira da Fumaça in Bahia's Chapada Diamantina National Park is the country's second highest waterfall, after the Amazon's almost inaccessible Cachoeira do Araca. Other famous waterfalls include Caracol Falls, in a Rio Grande do Sul state park of the same name near Canela, Itaquira Falls, an easily accessible 168-meter fall near Formosa, Goiás, and the gorge at Parque da Cascata near Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais. Aside from the nationally famous falls, in many parts of the country, particularly the South, Southeast, and Central West regions, you are rarely far from at least one locally-famous, named waterfall worth a short hike.

25 Things to do in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil Travel Guide and Top Attractions Transcript:
First up, we started with the city’s most iconic sight: Christ Redeemer. We boarded the train as soon as the station opened and made our way to the top of Corcovado Mountain. Sometimes the statue can be shielded by fog, but we lucked out with beautiful blue skies and panoramic views of the city as far as the eye could see.
For a bit of colour, we headed over to the Selaron Steps, which is a tiled staircase created by Chilean artist, Jorge Selarón. Initially Selaron would scavenge construction sites looking for tiles, but in later years as his work gained notoriety, travellers began donating tiles.
Since we chose to stay in the neighbourhood of Ipanema, we ended up spending quite a bit of time at Ipanema Beach. We noticed that this beach was really popular for beach football, volleyball, and surfing. And of course, what makes this beach so iconic are its two mountains, known as Dois Irmãos. If you come here on a clear day, you can catch a killer sunset.
No visit to Rio de Janeiro would be complete without heading up Sugarloaf Mountain, so when the skies finally cleared that’s exactly what we did. We paid for our tickets and boarded the cable car for a somewhat unnerving ride up. If you’re scared of heights, this probably isn’t the attraction for you, however, if you manage to make it to the top you get some really cool panoramic views of Rio.
Copacabana Beach is the most famed beach in all of Rio de Janeiro and if you were to visit on a weekend during the summer months you’d find that the place is packed beyond belief. We happened to be here in winter so things were a lot more relaxed, but that didn’t stop visitors from braving the waters.
We did a favela tour to Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira. On our tour we saw lots of street art, learned about life inside a favela.
