Dono de um timbre de voz incomparável e autor de pagodes românticos inesquecíveis, o cantor Péricles lança seu segundo CD e DVD solo, "Nos Arcos da Lapa". Gravado na Fundição Progresso, casa de espetáculos no reduto da boemia carioca, o álbum traz composições inéditas e músicas consagradas interpretadas por este músico que foi um dos fundadores do grupo Exaltasamba. Entre os lançamentos, podemos destacar o single "Se eu largar o freio", que já é sucesso nas rádios de todo o Brasil. Outra faixa de destaque é "Êta amor", que ganha um novo brilho com a participação do Xande do Revelação. Já a canção "Segura o samba" fica mais contagiante com a presença do vocalista do Sambô, San. Aproveitando o clima característico da Lapa, o disco é uma verdadeira roda de samba e traz canções que fizeram história na forma de potpourris. Um deles traz os sucessos "No compasso do criador" e "Recado a minha amada", do grupo Katinguelê. Em outro pot-pourri, temos os clássicos do Grupo Raça "De bem com Deus", "Seja mais você" e "Volta de vez pra mim".

I think that Pericles was one of the greatest leaders of world history. Not because he commanded strong armies or conquered exotic lands, but because he built his city state from a city of ruin, to a city of glory.

Pericles (Ancient Greek: Περικλῆς, Periklēs, "surrounded by glory"; c. 495 – 429 BC) was a prominent and influential Greek statesman, orator, and general of Athens during the city's Golden Age—specifically, the time between the Persian and Peloponnesian wars. He was descended, through his mother, from the powerful and historically influential Alcmaeonid family.
Pericles had such a profound influence on Athenian society that Thucydides, his contemporary historian, acclaimed him as "the first citizen of Athens". Pericles turned the Delian League into an Athenian empire and led his countrymen during the first two years of the Peloponnesian War. The period during which he led Athens, roughly from 461 to 429 BC, is sometimes known as the "Age of Pericles", though the period thus denoted can include times as early as the Persian Wars, or as late as the next century.
Pericles promoted the arts and literature; it is principally through his efforts that Athens holds the reputation of being the educational and cultural centre of the ancient Greek world. He started an ambitious project that generated most of the surviving structures on the Acropolis (including the Parthenon). This project beautified the city, exhibited its glory, and gave work to the people. Pericles also fostered Athenian democracy to such an extent that critics call him a populist.

Luan Domingos Rafael Santana (born 13 March 1991; Portuguese pronunciation: [luˈɐ̃ sɐ̃ˈtɐ̃nɐ]) is a Brazilian singer and composer of sertanejo universitário music.
Currently Santana has one of the most expensive concert fees in the country, charging about R$300,000 per performance.[citation needed] His first live album was a bestseller throughout 2010, selling over 500,000 copies.[citation needed] It remains among the best-selling albums in Brazil. His second album was recorded live in December 2010 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro and will be released in 2011.[dated info] The first single, "Adrenalina", a song that hit the top spot on the Billboard charts. The second single from this album Química Do Amor features Bahian singer Ivete Sangalo.
Santana was born in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. He began singing at age three in his hometown. After realizing his talent, his father gave him a guitar to further encourage his musical skill.
In recording his second CD, Santana decided that work would live and record in the cities in Brazil where his shows were performed. Once the CD was finished, two songs "Tô de Cara"and "Meteoro" became hits as he became on of the most played artists on Brazilian radio.[citation needed] Over a few weeks the video of "Meteor" had 17 million hits on YouTube.[citation needed] In summer 2009, Santana broke attendance records for the cities where he performed.[citation needed] Santana was invited to participate in "Rodeo of Barry. He performs at cowboy festivals and agricultural exhibitions throughout Brazil. In 2009 Santana performed 300 concerts in Brazil, with an average of 25 presentations per month. Santana launched his first DVD, recorded in August 2009 in Native Nations Park.

Dono de um timbre de voz incomparável e autor de pagodes românticos inesquecíveis, o cantor Péricles lança seu segundo CD e DVD solo, "Nos Arcos da Lapa". Gravado na Fundição Progresso, casa de espetáculos no reduto da boemia carioca, o álbum traz composições inéditas e músicas consagradas interpretadas por este músico que foi um dos fundadores do grupo Exaltasamba. Entre os lançamentos, podemos destacar o single "Se eu largar o freio", que já é sucesso nas rádios de todo o Brasil. Outra faixa de destaque é "Êta amor", que ganha um novo brilho com a participação do Xande do Revelação. Já a canção "Segura o samba" fica mais contagiante com a presença do vocalista do Sambô, San. Aproveitando o clima característico da Lapa, o disco é uma verdadeira roda de samba e traz canções que fizeram história na forma de potpourris. Um deles traz os sucessos "No compasso do criador" e "Recado a minha amada", do grupo Katinguelê. Em outro pot-pourri, temos os clássicos do Grupo Raça "De bem com Deus", "Seja mais você" e "Volta de vez pra mim".

Pericles Emmanuel Interviewing bassist Abe Becker.
Description Pericles Emmanuel is a multi-media performance artist. His training in gymnastics, singing and classical dance has allowed him to perform for large audiences all over the world. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Pericles was classically trained in ballet, modern, tap and jazz dance since a young child. While training as a dancer, he also spent his free time being coached for jazz singing. Pericles moved to the U.S. in 1994 where he continued his performance art in Miami, at Disneyland in Anaheim, and in Las Vegas. His international work included performances in Okaido, Japan, Cancun, Mexico ,,Las Vegas ,and many other Countries. "Ain't Misbehavin'" is a 1929 song written by Fats Waller, Harry Brooks (music) and Andy Razaf (lyrics).[1] Waller recorded the original version that year for Victor Records and also later performed the song in the 1943 film Stormy Weather. In a 1941 interview with Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Fats claimed the song was written while "lodging" in alimony prison, and that is why he was not "misbehaving".
There were six other recordings of the song released in 1929, including versions by Louis Armstrong, Ruth Etting, Gene Austin, and Leo Reisman and His Orchestra. It was also used in the off-Broadway musical Connie's Hot Chocolates.[citation needed]

"Ain't Misbehavin'" is a 1929 song written by Fats Waller, Harry Brooks (music) and Andy Razaf (lyrics).[1] Waller recorded the original version that year for Victor Records and also later performed the song in the 1943 film Stormy Weather. In a 1941 interview with Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Fats claimed the song was written while "lodging" in alimony prison, and that is why he was not "misbehaving".
There were six other recordings of the song released in 1929, including versions by Louis Armstrong, Ruth Etting, Gene Austin, and Leo Reisman and His Orchestra. It was also used in the off-Broadway musical Connie's Hot Chocolates.[citation needed]

Nat King Cole recorded more than one version of the song, including a later version that was used as the closing song in the 1993 movie Groundhog Day which starred Bill Murray. Cole's version, in the key of G major like the original, features a ii–V–I turnaround (2-5-1) in G, a pair of similar 2-5-1 sequences in E major and D major for the bridge, after which it raises the refrain a half-step with a 2-5-1 in A flat major.
The song was revived in a downbeat ballad version by singer Michael Johnson (#32, 1978).[2] It was also made popular by British singing sensation Dame Shirley Bassey.

On November 19th Intelligence Squared hosted the ultimate clash of civilisations: Greece vs Rome. It was also the ultimate clash of intellectual titans. Boris Johnson, Mayor of London and ardent classicist, made the case for Greece; while Mary Beard, Professor of Classics at Cambridge and redoubtable media star, championed Rome.
As Boris argued, the Greeks got there first: in literature, history, art and philosophy. The Iliad and the Odyssey are the earliest surviving epic poems, the foundations on which European literature was built. The Greek myths – the tales of Oedipus, Heracles and Persephone, to name but a few – contain the archetypal plot elements of hubris and nemesis on which even Hollywood films depend today.
It was in ancient Athens that the birth of democracy took place under the leadership of the great statesman Pericles. And in that political climate with its love of freedom and competition, and passion for argument, the great cultural flourishing of classical Athens occurred: the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides; the philosophical writings of Plato and Aristotle; and the marble and stone wonders of the Parthenon. Nothing before or since has matched that explosion of talent in a slice of Mediterranean coast smaller than Gloucestershire, with a population the size of Bristol’s.
But as Mary Beard reminded us, Greece eventually lost out to Rome. Little Athens, with its loose-knit, short-lived empire, had nothing to rival Rome’s scale. From Hadrian’s Wall to north Africa, from Spain’s Atlantic coast to Babylon, the Romans stamped a permanent legacy on architecture, language, religion and politics.
Although nothing can detract from the brilliance of Greek literature, the great Roman writers have an immediacy unmatched by any other ancient culture. Virgil’s epic poem the Aeneid, while invoking Homer, conveys an ambiguity towards war that appeals to modern sensibilities; Catullus’s taut analysis of his own complex emotions and the scatological insults he hurls at his rivals make him seem like the kind of clever and amusing friend we all wish we had. These poets reach out to us with voices that make the intervening 2,000 years vanish.
While Athens declined into a forgotten backwater, Rome became the eternal city, home to the greatest classical buildings on earth – the Colosseum, the Pantheon and Trajan’s column. It is thanks to a Roman emperor, Constantine, that Christianity became both the presiding European religion and the force that shaped the Renaissance. Europe is still built in Rome’s image, despite the fall of the Roman Empire.
Some say that if Mary Beard had been in charge, the Roman Empire would never have fallen. Others say Boris is soon to be the Pericles of Downing Street. Who gets your vote?

As Boris argued, the Greeks got there first: in literature, history, art and philosophy. The Iliad and the Odyssey are the earliest surviving epic poems, the foundations on which European literature was built. The Greek myths – the tales of Oedipus, Heracles and Persephone, to name but a few – contain the archetypal plot elements of hubris and nemesis on which even Hollywood films depend today.
It was in ancient Athens that the birth of democracy took place under the leadership of the great statesman Pericles. And in that political climate with its love of freedom and competition, and passion for argument, the great cultural flourishing of classical Athens occurred: the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides; the philosophical writings of Plato and Aristotle; and the marble and stone wonders of the Parthenon. Nothing before or since has matched that explosion of talent in a slice of Mediterranean coast smaller than Gloucestershire, with a population the size of Bristol’s.
But as Mary Beard reminded us, Greece eventually lost out to Rome. Little Athens, with its loose-knit, short-lived empire, had nothing to rival Rome’s scale. From Hadrian’s Wall to north Africa, from Spain’s Atlantic coast to Babylon, the Romans stamped a permanent legacy on architecture, language, religion and politics.
Although nothing can detract from the brilliance of Greek literature, the great Roman writers have an immediacy unmatched by any other ancient culture. Virgil’s epic poem the Aeneid, while invoking Homer, conveys an ambiguity towards war that appeals to modern sensibilities; Catullus’s taut analysis of his own complex emotions and the scatological insults he hurls at his rivals make him seem like the kind of clever and amusing friend we all wish we had. These poets reach out to us with voices that make the intervening 2,000 years vanish.
While Athens declined into a forgotten backwater, Rome became the eternal city, home to the greatest classical buildings on earth – the Colosseum, the Pantheon and Trajan’s column. It is thanks to a Roman emperor, Constantine, that Christianity became both the presiding European religion and the force that shaped the Renaissance. Europe is still built in Rome’s image, despite the fall of the Roman Empire.
Some say that if Mary Beard had been in charge, the Roman Empire would never have fallen. Others say Boris is soon to be the Pericles of Downing Street. Who gets your vote?
