Buildings and Grounds is the third and final studio album by Papas Fritas, released stateside on Minty Fresh in March 2000. In Australia it was distributed by local label Half a Cow, their first release of a non-Aussie album since Bettie Serveert's Palomine five years earlier.
Recorded at the Columnated Ruins (Gloucester, Mass.) and the Backporch and the Krackhaus (Somerville, Mass.). Engineered and mixed by Paul Sanni ("with supernatural zeal"). Analog consultation by Paul Q. Kolderie. Mastered by Roger Siebel at SAE (Phoenix, Ariz.).
People Say
People say she's crazy
But they don't ask why
People think she's tired
When they see her eyes
How can I believe them
When they don't ask why
How can I believe them
They don't even try
All of the love and laughter
That she holds inside
I know the secret she's after
It got left behind
People say she's angry
They don't understand
Everything just fell apart
And crumbled in her hands
Now she's just a stranger
Biding her own time
Faces wouldn't change her
Even when they tried
All of the love and laughter
That she holds inside
I know the secret she's after
It got left behind
Even lonely stars will shine.
People say she's broken
But they look away
They don't know she's workin'
Harder every day
I will never reach her
We just grew apart
She will just deceive them
Soon she'll be a star
All of the love and laughter
That she holds inside
I know the secret she's after
It got left behind.
Even sadder stars will shine
