Hiroshima (広島市, Hiroshima-shi) ( listen ) is the capital of Hiroshima Prefecture, and the largest city in the Chūgoku region of western Honshu, the largest island of Japan. The city's name, 広島, means "Wide Island" in Japanese. Hiroshima gained city status on April 1, 1889. On April 1, 1980, Hiroshima became a designated city. As of 2006, the city had an estimated population of 1,154,391. Kazumi Matsui has been the city's mayor since April 2011.
Hiroshima is best known as the first city in history to be targeted by a nuclear weapon when the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) dropped an atomic bomb on the city at 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, near the end of World War II.
Hiroshima was established on the river delta coastline of the Seto Inland Sea in 1589 by the powerful warlord Mōri Terumoto, who made it his capital after leaving Kōriyama Castle in Aki Province.Hiroshima Castle was quickly built, and in 1593 Terumoto moved in. Terumoto was on the losing side at the Battle of Sekigahara. The winner of the battle, Tokugawa Ieyasu, deprived Mori Terumoto of most of his fiefs including Hiroshima and gave Aki Province to Masanori Fukushima, a daimyo who had supported Tokugawa.

Thursday marks 70 years to the day since the United States dropped the world's first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later it dropped a second on the city of Nagasaki. The devastation is widely believed to have brought an abrupt end to World War Two - with Japan's surrender. But what about the appalling human cost of the bombing? Join me is seat 39K on an ANA-operated Boeing 767-300ER flying between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and Hiroshima. The video is a timelapse that covers the entire flight, takeoff to landing, with a couple bits in the middle edited out because they were VERY boring. But the good stuff is all there. The taxi out at Haneda is rather long and mostly out on "land" that is hovering over the bay like a bridge. The views of downtown Tokyo on take-off are amazing. From there it was a quick hour flight south to Hiroshima. The difference in the views is dramatic, with great rolling hills leading into the final approach at HIJ. There was even a family sitting on the fence at Hiroshima as we arrived, waiving to passengers on the planes. I hope they saw me waving back. Check out more from this and other cra...

Japan travel guide to what to do and eat in Miyajima, Hiroshima in a day! Hiroshima is near the bottom of the main island Honshu and a must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima. It’s one of Japan’s top 3 scenic sights, most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. Miyajima island is also a great place for a day trip from the Kansai region like Kyoto and Osaka but I would recommend staying in Hiroshima for a few days to explore Hiroshima city and another day for Miyajima island. I started my trip off at Hiroshima station and took a 25 minute train ride to JR Miyajima-guchi station. From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal where you will take a 10 minute ferry ride to go t...

Hiroshima's okonomiyaki is its best known regional specialty. A savoury layered "pancake" of noodles, cabbage, pork and many other ingredients, it's a must-try for any visitor to the city. In this episode I visit Yagenbori Hassho - known to locals as the famous "Blue Hassho" - which many say is the city's best, and learn how to eat okonomiyaki like a Hiroshima local.

Hiroshima today, Japan tours 2016 - Tourist attractions in Hiroshima, Japan - Trip to Hiroshima, Japan Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube To most people, Hiroshima means just one thing. The city's name will forever evoke thoughts of 6 August 1945, when Hiroshima became the target of the world's first atomic-bomb attack. Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park is a constant reminder of that day, and it attracts visitors from all over the world. But leafy Hiroshima, with its wide boulevards and laid-back friendliness, is a far from depressing place. Present-day Hiroshima is home to a thriving and internationally minded community, and it's worth spending a couple of nights here to experience the city at its vibrant best. Atomic Bomb D...

Flying over Tokyo was the best welcoming card we could get. As we landed in Narita Airport, we couldn’t wait to explore the bustling capital of Japan. It’s neon-lit skyscrapers shoulder to shoulder with buddhist temples and cherry blossom trees define the country. From the concrete streets of Tokyo and the temples of Kyoto to the port city of Nagasaki, a dance between the ultramodern and the traditional is always there. A ride in the Shinkansen from the island of Honshu to the Kyushu revealed more than the guide book Japan. Over the course of 16 days we dined with locals in Fukuoka, explored caves amidst the crashing waves in Enoshima and played with friendly deers in Miyajima island. Enjoy. This is the conclusion and final video segment of : "From Hiroshima to Fukushima to Livermore: Confronting the Two-Headed Dragon of Nuclear Weapons and Nuclear Power." The event was organized by a broad coalition of Bay Area peace, environmental and social justice groups, led by Tri-Valley CAREs and the Western States Legal Foundation, to demonstrate solidarity with the radiation victims of the nuclear bomb and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. It was held at Bill Payne Park right across the street from Livermore Lab, which is enjoying a nuclear weapons budget under Obama larger than existed under Reagan at the height of the Cold War. The program explored the seamless, Siamese twin connection between nuclear weapons and nuclear power that has existed - and continues to exist ...
I was born to this disaster
Just to pacify my father
Aristotle, slave and master
I'm the clay and I'm the potter
I used to know a kid who wore his heart on his sleeve
and he would've gave his life to make another believe
but the world ate him up
and it don't wanna spit him out
so the only question's whether his faith
is stronger than his doubt
Well I'm a man of great discretion
make so many good impressions
under false pretense
I'm still on the fence
I ask all the wrong and right questions
I use all of the right expressions
in their proper tense
still it makes no sense
why, why I'm, I'm going down
I'm going down
I ask all the wrong and right questions
I use all of the right expressions
in their proper tense
still it makes no sense
I'm a man of no discretion
make so many bad impressions
and there's no suspense
I fell off the fence
So let me go and just let me be
