Hiroshima (広島市, Hiroshima-shi) ( listen ) is the capital of Hiroshima Prefecture, and the largest city in the Chūgoku region of western Honshu, the largest island of Japan. The city's name, 広島, means "Wide Island" in Japanese. Hiroshima gained city status on April 1, 1889. On April 1, 1980, Hiroshima became a designated city. As of 2006, the city had an estimated population of 1,154,391. Kazumi Matsui has been the city's mayor since April 2011.
Hiroshima is best known as the first city in history to be targeted by a nuclear weapon when the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) dropped an atomic bomb on the city at 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, near the end of World War II.
Hiroshima was established on the river delta coastline of the Seto Inland Sea in 1589 by the powerful warlord Mōri Terumoto, who made it his capital after leaving Kōriyama Castle in Aki Province.Hiroshima Castle was quickly built, and in 1593 Terumoto moved in. Terumoto was on the losing side at the Battle of Sekigahara. The winner of the battle, Tokugawa Ieyasu, deprived Mori Terumoto of most of his fiefs including Hiroshima and gave Aki Province to Masanori Fukushima, a daimyo who had supported Tokugawa.
Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).
Little Tokyo may refer to:
from "Little Tokyo" (2007) Little Tokyo is Hiroshima's brilliant musical reference to the importance of maintaining a positive, multicultural world view in the midst of international and intercultural tensions.
Since Hiroshima's inception in 1980, the group has assumed the artistic mission of bridging cultural divides through the power of music. Founded in east L.A. by Japanese Americans Dan and June Kuramoto, Hiroshima has borrowed from numerous cultures -- Asian, Latin American, African American and more -- and merged these influences into a unique and innovative whole that is solely their own. The result is a brand of music that speaks to nearly every aspect of contemporary culture. The goodwill mission continues with the May 22, 2007, release of Little Tokyo (HUCD 3123), Hiroshima's fourth album on Heads Up International.

Japan travel guide to what to do and eat in Miyajima, Hiroshima in a day! Hiroshima is near the bottom of the main island Honshu and a must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima. It’s one of Japan’s top 3 scenic sights, most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. Miyajima island is also a great place for a day trip from the Kansai region like Kyoto and Osaka but I would recommend staying in Hiroshima for a few days to explore Hiroshima city and another day for Miyajima island. I started my trip off at Hiroshima station and took a 25 minute train ride to JR Miyajima-guchi station. From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal where you will take a 10 minute ferry ride to go t...

Hiroshima's okonomiyaki is its best known regional specialty. A savoury layered "pancake" of noodles, cabbage, pork and many other ingredients, it's a must-try for any visitor to the city. In this episode I visit Yagenbori Hassho - known to locals as the famous "Blue Hassho" - which many say is the city's best, and learn how to eat okonomiyaki like a Hiroshima local.

Hiroshima today, Japan tours 2016 - Tourist attractions in Hiroshima, Japan - Trip to Hiroshima, Japan Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube To most people, Hiroshima means just one thing. The city's name will forever evoke thoughts of 6 August 1945, when Hiroshima became the target of the world's first atomic-bomb attack. Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park is a constant reminder of that day, and it attracts visitors from all over the world. But leafy Hiroshima, with its wide boulevards and laid-back friendliness, is a far from depressing place. Present-day Hiroshima is home to a thriving and internationally minded community, and it's worth spending a couple of nights here to experience the city at its vibrant best. Atomic Bomb D...

Flying over Tokyo was the best welcoming card we could get. As we landed in Narita Airport, we couldn’t wait to explore the bustling capital of Japan. It’s neon-lit skyscrapers shoulder to shoulder with buddhist temples and cherry blossom trees define the country. From the concrete streets of Tokyo and the temples of Kyoto to the port city of Nagasaki, a dance between the ultramodern and the traditional is always there. A ride in the Shinkansen from the island of Honshu to the Kyushu revealed more than the guide book Japan. Over the course of 16 days we dined with locals in Fukuoka, explored caves amidst the crashing waves in Enoshima and played with friendly deers in Miyajima island. Enjoy. During my one month in Japan I've traveled across half the country and saw many amazing things including the most spectacular hobby stores in the world. This was an experience I felt strongly enough to document and share with the general community. The city's include Tokyo, Fuji, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe and Kyushu (found very little). I will show case photos of inside the stores and different finished kits and displays while talking about the locations.
