A sigma factor (σ factor) is a protein needed only for initiation of RNA synthesis. It is a bacterial transcription initiation factor that enables specific binding of RNA polymerase to gene promoters. The specific sigma factor used to initiate transcription of a given gene will vary, depending on the gene and on the environmental signals needed to initiate transcription of that gene.
Every molecule of RNA polymerase holoenzyme contains exactly one sigma factor subunit, which in the model bacterium Escherichia coli is one of those listed below. The number of sigma factors varies between bacterial species.E. coli has seven sigma factors. Sigma factors are distinguished by their characteristic molecular weights. For example, σ70 refers to the sigma factor with a molecular weight of 70 kDa.
RNA polymerase holoenzyme complex consisting of core RNA polymerase and a sigma factor executes transcription of a DNA template strand. Once initiation of RNA transcription is complete, the sigma factor can leave the complex.
Sigma (upper-case Σ, lower-case σ, lower-case in word-final position ς; Greek σίγμα) is the eighteenth letter of the Greek alphabet. In the system of Greek numerals, it has a value of 200. When used at the end of a word, when the word is not all upper-case, the final form (ς) is used, e.g. Ὀδυσσεύς (Odysseus); note the two sigmas in the center of the name, and the word-final sigma at the end.
The shape and alphabetic position of Sigma is derived from Phoenician shin 𐤔 .
The name of sigma, according to one hypothesis, may continue that of Phoenician Samekh. According to a different theory, its original name may have been "San" (the name today associated with another, obsolete letter), while "sigma" was a Greek innovation that simply meant "hissing", based on a nominalization of a verb σίζω (sízō, from earlier *sig-jō, meaning 'I hiss').
The uppercase form of sigma was re-borrowed into the Latin alphabet to serve as the uppercase of modern esh (lowercase: ʃ).

It has a red ring like the most expensive Canon 'L' lenses...but actually it's another cheaper telephoto lens. It's compatible with expensive full-frame cameras...but here's a review of its performance on an APS-C camera (specifically, my 18-megapixel Canon 60D). Enjoy! When it comes to purchasing a lens what is the most important thing to look at, the f stop. The large the f stop the more light you are going to let in. The more light you let in the better your image quality tends to be. In Part 1 I am helping Gizzy decide between the Nikon 70-300 f4.5-56 and the Sigma 70-200 2.8 II apo dc so on so forth. Watch part one to see which way I am steering him. FroKnowsPhoto.com Launching June 1

A look at the Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 - http://amzn.to/1fF9bgQ Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 - http://amzn.to/1k38yla (This is the OS version, which I highly recommend) Envy Me Images Louisville Photographer http://www.envymeimages.com The Sigma 70-200 is a great lens. I can almost call it my favorite lens, but I just don't use it. The reason, it's too long of a focal length on a DX camera. It effectively is a 105-300mm. Also the particular model I have DOES NOT HAVE OS. Without OS, you would need a high shutter speed to counter act camera shake. I generally don't shoot with high shutter speeds. The 70-200 is my go to Lens for street photography, due to the fact that it is a long lens. Shutter speeds don't matter as I'm usually at higher speeds since most events ar...
Where I Buy all of my Gear http://bit.ly/emipazm (Best Prices Too!!) In this video, I am testing my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens for stabilization while handholding. I use multiple shutter speeds ranging from 1/800th of a second down to 1/30th of a second. My Sigma 70-200 is the version WITHOUT OS (optical stabilization), so handholding is limited to your ability to be still at slower shutter speeds. In general, your shutter speed should be equal or greater to your focal length, this is to include your crop factor. So if your crop factor is 1.5 on a 200mm lens, your shutter speed should be set to at least 300. I hope you enjoyed this video. Thanks for watching, reading this description and commenting as well. Father thanks for playin' with my friends and me
I'm glad they got to meet the man I know
You always knew the words and taught me honesty
Picked me up when I was feeling low
If I could talk to you one more time
I know you'd work things out just like before
Where did I go wrong can you hear me sing this song?
Father I won't see you anymore
Mother dry your eyes why do you cry those tears?
You knew someday your baby'd be a man
Letting go is hard when it's for ever dear
I know it's late, but now I understand
If I could hold your hand one more time
And hear your lullabies just like before
I know that I did wrong, so I'm singing you this song
Mother, I won't see you anymore
Son, I wish you knew how much we're missin' you
I saw them cry their tears from up above
I try to tell them, but the words aren't getting through
I didn't mean to hurt the ones I love
Mother, Father, I hope to see you soon
And things will be just like they were before
I'm sending all my love, I'm watching from above
