The "red-rose" city of Petra stands as one of the most glorious and mysterious archaeological sites on earth. Created over 2,500 years ago, the ornate Petra cityscape was literally carved into the rose-colored walls of Jordan's Shara Mountains. The builders of Petra, the Nabataeans, were thought to be some of the wealthiest people ever to inhabit the Middle East, but they, along with their riches, simply vanished. What was Petra and could the Arabian site be still hiding precious treasure?
Petra (Arabic: البتراء, Al-Batrāʾ, Ancient Greek Πέτρα) is a historical and archaeological city in the southern Jordanian governorate of Ma'an, that is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Another name for Petra is the Rose City due to the color of the stone out of which it is carved.
Established possibly as early as 312 BCE as the capital city of the Nabataeans, it is a symbol of Jordan, as well as its most-visited tourist attraction. It lies on the slope of Jebel al-Madhbah (identified by some as the biblical Mount Hor) in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate Prize-winning poem by John William Burgon. Petra was chosen by the Smithsonian Magazine as one of the "28 Places to See Before You Die."
Evidence suggests that settlements had begun in and around Petra in the eighteenth dynasty of Egypt (1550--1292 BCE)[citation needed]. It is listed in Egyptian campaign accounts and the Amarna letters as Pel, Sela or Seir. Though the city was founded relatively late, a sanctuary existed there since very ancient times. Stations 19 through 26 of the stations list of Exodus are places associated with Petra. This part of the country was biblically assigned to the Horites, the predecessors of the Edomites. The habits of the original natives may have influenced the Nabataean custom of burying the dead and offering worship in half-excavated caves. Archaeologists say that the ancient city of Petra dates back to the third century BC. Al B'doul, a Bedouin tribe that used to live in Petra, claim to be descended from the Nabataeans who occupied this land at the end of the Roman Empire. They lived among the tombs and caves for over 170 years. But after Petra became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the mid-1980s, many B'doul were forced to abandon their semi-nomadic life for the nearby, purpose-built settlement of Umm Sayhoun, where they still live today. The B'doul go to Petra every day to act as tour guides and provide local colour - from music and entertainment to camel and donkey rides. They feel a strong attachment to the site, and some still cling to Bedouin life in the ancient valley. In this Al Jazeera Documentary film shot in Petra, we explore the history, traditions and daily lives of the B'doul, particularly the challenges they face as Bedouins in a tourism centre in present-day Jordan.

The mass-media nowadays is propagating the myths of the Palestinians and of the Arabs that Jerusalem is "the third holy place for muslims" which newscasters should be honest to declare it is the first and only Holy Place for Jews!
By the time of King David, Canaanites were assimilated into the Israelites community through intermarriage. The only people that can trace back a lineage to the ancient Canaanites are the Jews, not the Palestinians, as Canaanites did not exist any longer after the 8th century B.C. and they were not annihilated but assimilated into the Jewish people.

The Jordan Desert is a beautiful, natural landscape and was once home to a legendary and mysterious people that fell into oblivion some centuries ago, the Nabateans, whose realm was at its zenith some 2,000 years ago and resulted in some of the most fascinating ruins of antiquity.
Due to their remote and obscure location, the remains of Petra, a legendary Nabatean city of rock, were for many years merely regarded as a myth and only a few local Bedouin tribes knew of the existence of certain ancient buildings in the south of what is now Jordan.
Both El-Barid and Petra were located in a very favorable position at the junction of several ancient trading routes that led from the Arabian Peninsula to as far as Anatolia and into today's Syria and Egypt. Caravan trains brought great wealth to the Nabatean realm.
The technical knowledge and achievements of this ancient desert tribe were quite remarkable. Drains that were several kilometres long supplied the local population with fresh water, an essential commodity in the desert.
One of the region's most famous natural landmarks is situated in the northern part of the Wadi Rum, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, a striking rock that was named after a novel by Lawrence of Arabia. Inspired by the enthusiastic writings of the legendary secret agent, film director David Lean decided to shoot the film at the original locations mentioned by Lawrence. The shining color of the rocks and the fascinating desert landscape of the Wadi Rum have been made famous by the historic film.
The conquest of this region by the Arabs in the middle of the 7th century marked the decline of the legendary rock city of Petra. For more than 1,000 years, the ruins of this ancient civilization lay hidden beneath the desert sands of Jordan before they once again revealed some of their secrets to a new and fascinated world.

The Nabataeans, also Nabateans (Arabic: الأنباط al-ʾAnbāṭ), were ancient peoples of Jordan, whose oasis settlements in the time of Josephus (AD 37 – c. 100), gave the name of Nabatene to the borderland between Syria and Arabia, from the Euphrates to the Red Sea. Their loosely-controlled trading network, which centered on strings of oases that they controlled, where agriculture was intensively practiced in limited areas, and on the routes that linked them, had no securely defined boundaries in the surrounding desert. Trajan conquered the Nabataean kingdom, annexing it to the Roman Empire, where their individual culture, easily identified by their characteristic finely-potted painted ceramics, became dispersed in the general Greco-Roman culture and was eventually lost.

Established possibly as early as 312 BCE as the capital city of the Nabataeans, it is a symbol of Jordan, as well as its most-visited tourist attraction. It lies on the slope of Jebel al-Madhbah (identified by some as the biblical Mount Hor) in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate Prize-winning poem by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage". See: UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. Petra was chosen by the Smithsonian Magazine as one of the "28 Places to See Before You Die."
Evidence suggests that settlements had begun in and around Petra in the eighteenth dynasty of Egypt (1550--1292 BCE)[citation needed]. It is listed in Egyptian campaign accounts and the Amarna letters as Pel, Sela or Seir. Though the city was founded relatively late, a sanctuary existed there since very ancient times. Stations 19 through 26 of the stations list of Exodus are places associated with Petra. This part of the country was biblically assigned to the Horites, the predecessors of the Edomites. The habits of the original natives may have influenced the Nabataean custom of burying the dead and offering worship in half-excavated caves. The mass-media nowadays is propagating the myths of the Palestinians and of the Arabs that Jerusalem is "the third holy place for muslims" which newscasters should be honest to declare it is the first and only Holy Place for Jews!
By the time of King David, Canaanites were assimilated into the Israelites community through intermarriage. The only people that can trace back a lineage to the ancient Canaanites are the Jews, not the Palestinians, as Canaanites did not exist any longer after the 8th century B.C. and they were not annihilated but assimilated into the Jewish people.

The Jordan Desert is a beautiful, natural landscape and was once home to a legendary and mysterious people that fell into oblivion some centuries ago, the Nabateans, whose realm was at its zenith some 2,000 years ago and resulted in some of the most fascinating ruins of antiquity.
Due to their remote and obscure location, the remains of Petra, a legendary Nabatean city of rock, were for many years merely regarded as a myth and only a few local Bedouin tribes knew of the existence of certain ancient buildings in the south of what is now Jordan.
Both El-Barid and Petra were located in a very favorable position at the junction of several ancient trading routes that led from the Arabian Peninsula to as far as Anatolia and into today's Syria and Egypt. Caravan trains brought great wealth to the Nabatean realm.
The technical knowledge and achievements of this ancient desert tribe were quite remarkable. Drains that were several kilometres long supplied the local population with fresh water, an essential commodity in the desert.
One of the region's most famous natural landmarks is situated in the northern part of the Wadi Rum, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, a striking rock that was named after a novel by Lawrence of Arabia. Inspired by the enthusiastic writings of the legendary secret agent, film director David Lean decided to shoot the film at the original locations mentioned by Lawrence. The shining color of the rocks and the fascinating desert landscape of the Wadi Rum have been made famous by the historic film.
The conquest of this region by the Arabs in the middle of the 7th century marked the decline of the legendary rock city of Petra. For more than 1,000 years, the ruins of this ancient civilization lay hidden beneath the desert sands of Jordan before they once again revealed some of their secrets to a new and fascinated world.

Palace of the Pharaoh's Daughter (Nabataean Temple) at Petra
According to Bedouin legend the Palace of the Pharaoh's Daughter at Petra in Jordan is named after an Egyptian Pharaoh that came and constructed the building for his daughter. Although, others believe it to be once a Nabataean Temple that was later renamed to fit the legend. Testament to a different construction technique by using wood and stone gave the structure the ability to withstand earthquakes that many other buildings fell to and is credited to the reason for it still being mostly standing today. "Let the fun begin..." There was a bunch of pictures of the studio equipment as well!
Petrucci completed a new interview with Metal Insider and they talked about the band's decision to re-sign with Roadrunner Records and their next album.
An excerpt is below:
Q: How developed is the new album?
Petrucci: "So far it's not very developed at all. We're scheduled to go into the studio in January. Being a month out or so, we have a handful of ideas we compiled while we were on the road, and we have those archived. And since I got back from the road, and have had some off time, I've been spending more time compiling, writing and demoing some things. There are a bunch of seeds, a bunch of ideas, and a definite direction. Everybody is hired, the studio is locked, and the vision for the type of album has been talked about and secured. The only thing that's not there is the main material, but we'll go in January full force."

We had the pleasure to sit down and chat with the legendary and idiosyncratic Michael Weikath of Helloween in order to catch up with band and discuss many aspects of their career. We were able to discuss their limited North American touring cycles, the missing presence in North America from Gamma Ray during this Hellish Rock part II tour along with his impressions of their recent Rock in Rio performance and the 70,000 Tons of Metal appearance as well. We were then able to catch up on the current state of power metal according to Michael. We moved along and discussed the high variety of lyrical themes found throughout Helloween's catalogue and how they manage to create and accommodate them. We had a unique opportunity to look into a more personal side of Helloween by discussing Andi and Michael's current residence in Tenerife, Spain and its influence. For last, we briefly discussed the future album and touring plans for the band.

Elusive American melodic metal forerunners CELLADOR have manifested themselves once again, in preparation for transfiguration into its newest POWER METAL incarnation!
Originally forged at the helm of guitarist Chris Petersen, CELLADOR was conceived with deliberate intention of bringing the European speed and power metal influence to the USA, where the style is virtually nonexistent and unknown. Upon release of their critically acclaimed album "Enter Deception," Cellador took on to bring its music to the metal masses of North America, having toured alongside the likes of metal titans Trivium, All That Remains, Bullet For My Valentine, Protest The Hero, and many others. Their touring ventures took the band across the USA to Mexico, Canada, and even off to Japan for an appearance at the Loud Park festival.
Fast forward to today, where the band has re-emerged after a period of hiatus, into the Colorado metal scene to reignite with a vigor and energy unsurpassed by any previous performance yet! According to Bedouin legend the Palace of the Pharaoh's Daughter at Petra in Jordan is named after an Egyptian Pharaoh that came and constructed the building for his daughter. Although, others believe it to be once a Nabataean Temple that was later renamed to fit the legend.
Testament to a different construction technique by using wood and stone gave the structure the ability to withstand earthquakes that many other buildings fell to and is credited to the reason for it still being mostly standing today.
