The songs most sought out after being heard in clubs

Sad though I am about the smartphone’s ubiquity in public spaces, there’s something kind of beautiful and pure about Shazam, and that desperation to find out the name of an unknown song just because you’re enjoying it that damn much.

Pleasingly, you’ll find that even the most esoteric tracks you thought you were about the only person to know have been Shazamed at some point - presumably piped into a cafe or bar somewhere in the world - but unsurprisingly, the most sought out songs are mainstream dance bangers.

The app has a ‘Hall of Fame’ on its site, dedicated to songs that have been Shazamed over 15 million times (there's a lot of Avicii and Guetta, weep).

Here are the top 10, arranged by how many times people have stuck their phone in the air to discover them:

10. Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Feat. Wanz

15,318,543

9. Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran
