University of the Arts or University of Arts may refer to:
The University of the Arts Bremen (German: Hochschule für Künste Bremen, HfK Bremen) is a public university in Bremen, Germany. It is one of the most successful arts institutions, and its origins date back to 1873. The University of the Arts Bremen runs a Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, and a Faculty of Music, with approximately 900 students, 65 professors and about 180 assistant professors.
The academic subdivisions within the University are Music, Art, Design and practical theory. The institution's specialisms in both music and visual arts is unique within Germany, save for the Berlin University of the Arts. Recent works and exhibitions combine visual art, digital media and music, with emphasis on co-operation between disciplines.
In 1998, the institution celebrated the tenth anniversary of the University of the Arts and the 125th anniversary of the Art Academy.
Since 2003, the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of the Arts Bremen has been located at Speicher XI, in the former overseas harbour in the Überseestadt district. The Music Faculty is located at a second site on the Dechanatstraße in the city centre, close to the Rathaus and the Cathedral.
The City Municipality of Bremen (German: Stadtgemeinde Bremen, IPA: [ˈbʁeːmən]) is a Hanseatic city in northwestern Germany.
A commercial and industrial city with a major port on the River Weser, Bremen is part of the Bremen/Oldenburg Metropolitan Region, with 2.4 million people. Bremen is the second most populous city in Northern Germany and tenth in Germany.
Bremen is a major cultural and economic hub in the northern regions of Germany. Bremen is home to dozens of historical galleries and museums, ranging from historical sculptures to major art museums, such as the Übersee-Museum Bremen. Bremen has a reputation as a working class city. Along with this, Bremen is home to a large number of multinational companies and manufacturing centers. Companies headquartered in Bremen include the Hachez chocolate company and Vector Foiltec.
Bremen is some 60 km (37 mi) south from the Weser mouth on the North Sea. With Bremerhaven right on the mouth the two comprise the state of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen (official German name: Freie Hansestadt Bremen).
The University of Bremen (German Universität Bremen) is one of 11 institutions classed as an "Elite university" in Germany, and a university of approximately 23,500 people from 126 countries that are studying, teaching, researching, and working in Bremen. It has become the science center of North West Germany.
The university has most notably reputation in political science, industrial engineering, digital media, physics, mathematics, microbiology, geosciences (particularly marine geosciences), and European law.
Its commitment was rewarded with the title “Stadt der Wissenschaft 2005” (City of Science of 2005), which science, politics, business and culture won jointly for Bremen and Bremerhaven, by the Foundation for German Science (Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft).
Some of the paths that were taken back then, also referred to as the "Bremen model", have since become characteristics of modern universities, such as interdisciplinary, explorative learning, social relevance to practice-oriented project studies which enjoy a high reputation in the academic world as well as in business and industry. Other reform approaches of the former ‘new university’ have proven to be errors such as waiving a mid-level faculty, tripartite representation or too “student-friendly” examination regulations and were given up in Bremen a few years ago.
A university (Latin: universitas, "a whole") is an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research which grants academic degrees in various subjects and typically provides undergraduate education and postgraduate education. The word "university" is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means "community of teachers and scholars."
The original Latin word "universitas" refers in general to "a number of persons associated into one body, a society, company, community, guild, corporation, etc." At the time of the emergence of urban town life and medieval guilds, specialised "associations of students and teachers with collective legal rights usually guaranteed by charters issued by princes, prelates, or the towns in which they were located" came to be denominated by this general term. Like other guilds, they were self-regulating and determined the qualifications of their members.
In modern usage the word has come to mean "An institution of higher education offering tuition in mainly non-vocational subjects and typically having the power to confer degrees," with the earlier emphasis on its corporate organization considered as applying historically to Medieval universities.

The film was shot on 10.02.2013. in Bremen, Germany and it follows a story from the old part of Bremen up to the Hochschultag at the University of Arts Bremen (HfK). From the early morning to the very end of the day, we can catch glimpses of both the landmarks of Bremen, but also the art created within the HfK. This is not a promotional video for either Hochschule für Künste nor any part of it. This film represents a memento of my own from this wonderful day. It's edited in a way that comes from my impressions of the whole city and exhibition. This was shot on Canon 7d with 50mm f1.4 lens on it. Edited in Adobe Premiere as always. Special thanks to Paul Avgerinos for his wonderful soundtrack "New Dawn" which was the inspirational force of the editing part. Special note: don't be fooled ...
Mid-June 2012, the University of Bremen won the title "University of Excellence" in the course of the German federal government's Excellence Initiative. For the next 5 years the University will receive about 100 Million Euro fundings from federal and state government. This money will not only support the Cluster of Excellence MARUM and the Graduateschool BIGSSS but also the University as a whole. A sensation since Bremen will have the only University of Excellence in Northern Germany.

Still in their early twenties, the students at the young private international Jacobs University in Bremen are already considered future torchbearers of industry and science. Many of the students at the private Jacobs University in Bremen major in logistics or engineering and the natural sciences. You have to have excellent grades and letters of recommendation to get in, but university president Joachim Treusch says interest in other people and curiosity about other cultures are equally important. Students come from more than 90 countries and live on campus. They study about 10 hours a day, including weekends, but there's time for other activities ranging from astronomy, the martial arts to oriental dance. My uncle, Ben Kashkooli, created this artist statement: Silk Table in Water. April 17-22, 2002. He wrote: "This installation is dedicated to men and women of this planet who tirelessly have given their life toward preservation and restoration of life and ecology. Allow me to offer my humble belief that the future of resources on this fragile planet is our responsibility, the artist's role as a healer and restorer, very much similar to the work of doctors without borders -- done not in an isolated clinic, but in the actual site where the screams of nature can be felt. Today the world is grieving the loss of a great man and hero. Dr. Le Cae Dai, thank you for your selfless work on behalf of the Vietnamese children and the rest of our global relations. May the peace of eternal tranquility ...
