Life Story: He got life back, but lost a lot in 30 years

Even after 30 years, freedom has come at a price for Ahmed Mohammed Jassim, an Iranian national who had been on death row for murder in a Dubai jail, until a pardon from His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in June last year set him free. The world is now 30 years ahead of what Ahmed had last seen and he is puzzled by its modern complexities....

Ahmed has been on the disabled list since July 22, but the hip had bothered him for months before that. Ahmed received an anti-inflammatory shot around 10 days ago and recently restarted baseball activities, but he ... Ahmed is expected to be ready to go when Spring Training opens next year....

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - American runner Paul Chelimo won an Olympic silver medal. Or did he?. Oh, yes he did ... Now a U.S ... "I thought it was a joke ... "Now I'm really happy ... Besides Chelimo, Mohammed Ahmed of Canada and Muktar Edris of Ethiopia were also disqualified. Ahmed, too, was later reinstated, putting him back in fourth place ... ... The decision to disqualify Chelimo and Ahmed was - at least briefly - good news for Bernard Lagat ... ....

As Maj Gen Ahmed Al Raisi, chairman of the Olympic Planning Committee, rightly said, in order to improve on our performance in Rio, the country must start preparing for the next Olympic events right now, by having a long-term strategy that puts more focus on developing school sports and nurturing young talent....
