Pentium is a brand used for a series of x86-compatible microprocessors produced by Intel since 1993. In its current form, Pentium processors are considered entry-level products that Intel rates as "two stars", meaning that they are above the low-end Atom and Celeron series but below the faster Core i3, i5 and i7 lines as well as the high-end Xeon processors.
The current Pentium processors have only the name in common with the early ones, and are in fact based on the Intel Core architecture, typically implemented by lowering the clock frequency and disabling some features, such as hyper-threading, virtualization and, partly, L3 cache.
The name Pentium is originally derived from the Greek word pente (πέντε), meaning "five" (a reference to Intel's fifth-generation microarchitecture employed on the first Pentium processors), with the Latin ending -ium.
During development Intel generally identifies processors with codenames, such as Prescott, Willamette, Coppermine, Katmai, Klamath or Deschutes. These usually become widely known, even after the processors are given official names on launch.

Intel Corporation (better known as Intel) is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Santa Clara, California. Intel is one of the world's largest and highest valued semiconductor chip makers, based on revenue. It is the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. Intel supplies processors for computer system manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, HP and Dell. Intel also makes motherboard chipsets, network interface controllers and integrated circuits, flash memory, graphics chips, embedded processors and other devices related to communications and computing.
Intel Corporation was founded on July 18, 1968 by semiconductor pioneers Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore and widely associated with the executive leadership and vision of Andrew Grove, Intel combines advanced chip design capability with a leading-edge manufacturing capability.
Intel Core is Intel's brand name for various mid-range to high-end home and business microprocessors. These processors displaced the existing mid-to-high end Pentium processors of the time, moving the Pentium to the entry level, and bumping the Celeron series of processors to low end. Identical or more capable versions of Core processors are also sold as Xeon processors for the server and workstation market.
As of 2015 the current lineup of Core processors included the Intel Core i7, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i3, and Core M.
Clock speed slowest 1.2 GHz to the fastest 4.0 GHz (Intel Core i7-4790K) (or 4.4 GHz via Intel Turbo Boost Technology)
The original Core brand refers to Intel's 32-bit mobile dual-core x86 CPUs, which derived from the Pentium M branded processors. The processor family used a more enhanced version of the Intel P6 microarchitecture. It emerged in parallel with the NetBurst microarchitecture (Intel P68) of the Pentium 4 brand, and was a precursor of the 64-bit Core microarchitecture of Core 2 branded CPUs. The Core brand comprised two branches: the Duo (dual-core) and Solo (Duo with one disabled core, which replaced the Pentium M brand of single-core mobile processor).
The following is a list of Intel Core i3 brand microprocessors.
The Pentium D brand refers to two series of desktop dual-core 64-bit x86-64 microprocessors with the NetBurst microarchitecture, which is the dual-core variant of Pentium 4 "Prescott" manufactured by Intel. Each CPU comprised two dies, each containing a single core, residing next to each other on a multi-chip module package. The brand's first processor, codenamed Smithfield, was released by Intel on May 25, 2005. Nine months later, Intel introduced its successor, codenamed Presler, but without offering significant upgrades in design, still resulting in relatively high power consumption. By 2004, the NetBurst processors reached a clock speed barrier at 3.8 GHz due to a thermal (and power) limit exemplified by the Presler's 130 watt thermal design power (a higher TDP requires additional cooling that can be prohibitively noisy or expensive). The future belonged to more energy efficient and slower clocked dual-core CPUs on a single die instead of two. The final shipment date of the dual die Presler chips was August 8, 2008, which marked the end of the Pentium D brand and also the NetBurst microarchitecture.

The Intel Pentium D was essentially a dual core variant of the once popular Pentium 4 CPU, but by the time it was released there were already other options available that were not only more popular and powerful than this new chip, but were far less power hungry too, leading many to overlook this CPU when it came to gaming. These days, they can be found littered around online auction sites for next to no money at all, so can this Pentium D 945 still actually play games? (Even though it was never considered very good anyway). After a few refinements by late 2001 the Pentium 4 immediately took off. Intel found just the right group of people to market to, the semi power user. These were the people who wanted to edit videos, photos, music, and do some heavy gaming on the side. Intel made sure to target this demographic heavily in their advertisement campaign. It's time for my intel G4560.The new Kaby Lake Pentiums come now come with hyper_threading. This adds a huge gaming boost over skylake Pentium processors. With the Intel G4560 you now have i3-6100 level performance for $65.For this reason I see the Intel G4560 as the best budget gaming cpu for 2017. In this review I will show the Intel G4560 running- Cinebench with hyper-threading on and off + Full gaming benchmarks with a gtx 1060 6gb @ultra 1080p setting. I will also answer the 3 questions you keep asking. Will this work with a skylake motherboards?, Whats the best gpu to pair this cpu with? and why the hell would I buy an i3 now? PC Specifications. Case- Aerocool Qs240 amtx CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 Kabylake MOBO: Msi h110m Pro-vd matx GPU- Palit gtx 1060 super jetstream 6gb overclock...
Is i3 better than the Pentium? If so, how much and is it worth the money? I discuss the differences between these two similar processors and show several tests to compare speed and performance. Thanks for watching and don't forget to rate, comment, and subscribe.
Today we're taking a look at how the cheapest in Intel's new line of Pentiums stacks up when it comes to gaming performance. With the release of the new Kaby Lake i3, i5, and i7 CPU's, the new Pentiums, which feature hyper threading for the first time in years are being overlooked, despite the G4560 being able to outperform more expensive processors with ease at a cost of just £65 | $75. We also take a look at comparisons vs the i3 7100, the FX 6300 as well as the G4400, to see just where this thing fits in and whether it's worth buying if your looking to build a budget gaming PC. Today's gameplay tests include Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 4, Witcher 3 and Assassin's Creed Unity. Out test specs include the GTX 1060, and 8GB of 2400MHz DDR4 for the Intel Processors, but 1866MHz DDR3 for t...
