Susan Quinn

Susan Quinn is an award-winning writer of non-fiction books and articles. Born in 1940, she grew up in Chillicothe, Ohio, and graduated from Oberlin College. She began her writing career as a newspaper reporter on a suburban daily outside of Cleveland, following two years as an apprentice actor at the Cleveland Play House, a professional repertory company. In 1967, she published her first book under the name Susan Jacobs: a nonfiction account of the making of a Broadway play called On Stage (Alfred A. Knopf). In 1972, after moving to Boston, she became a regular contributor to an alternative Cambridge weekly, The Real Paper, then a contributor and staff writer on Boston Magazine. In 1979, she won the Penney-Missouri magazine award for an investigative article for Boston Magazine on dangerous cargo transported through the city, and the Golden Hammer Award from the National Association of Home Builders for an investigative article on home inspections. She has written articles for many publications, including the New York Times Magazine, the Atlantic Monthly, and Ms Magazine.

Lewis (Scottish Gaelic: Leòdhas, pronounced [ʎɔː.əs̪], also Isle of Lewis) is the northern part of Lewis and Harris, the largest island of the Western Isles or Outer Hebrides (an archipelago) of Scotland. The total area of Lewis is 683 square miles (1,770 km²).

Lewis is, in general, the lower lying part of the island, with the other part, Harris, being more mountainous. The flatter, more fertile land means Lewis contains the largest settlement, Stornoway, and three-quarters of the population of the Western Isles. Beyond human habitation, the island's diverse habitats are home to an assortment of flora and fauna, such as the golden eagle, red deer and seals and are recognised in a number of conservation areas.

Lewis is of Presbyterian tradition with a rich history, having once been part of the Norse Kingdom of Mann and the Isles. Today, life is very different from elsewhere in Scotland with Sabbath observance, the Gaelic language and peat cutting retaining more importance than elsewhere. Lewis has a rich cultural heritage as can be seen from its myths and legends as well as the local literary and musical traditions.

Unicoi State Park

Unicoi State Park & Lodge is a 1,050-acre (4.25 km²) state park located immediately north-northeast of Helen, Georgia in the northeastern portion of the state. The centerpiece of the park is 53-acre (21 ha) Unicoi Lake on Smith Creek. The park is especially popular in October, when the autumn leaves in the forest change colors.

Entry to the park is from Georgia 356, just off of Georgia State Route 75 (North Main Street in Helen). Georgia 75 Alt allows visitors coming from the south via Cleveland, Georgia to bypass the massive traffic jams on 75 through the town during weekends, holidays, and Oktoberfest. The park also allows access to Anna Ruby Falls, owned by the U.S. Forest Service and run by the non-profit Cradle of Forestry. Separate parking fees must be paid for the park and the falls.

In August 2005, some damage occurred to the park when a tornado spawned by Hurricane Katrina touched down in part of the town of Helen, and then traveled north through the park. According to signs posted, some relatively minor damage occurred to the lodge, and 15 acres (six hectares) of trees were downed. The trees were logged for timber, and small controlled burns were used to eliminate excessive dead vegetation, while the branches from the timber were turned into mulch used in the park.
