You'll move into Class C, considered the amateur level as you improve. This is where many players spend a long time honing their skills. Once you break through, you'll enter Class B, the advanced amateur level, and with dedication, you may reach Class A. Players in Class A are on the cusp of expert-level play, and reaching a 2000 rating means you are officially considered an expert. For those striving for official chess titles, a 2200 rating earns you the title of National Master (NM) in national systems, while a FIDE rating of 2200 gives you the title of Candidate Master (CM). Beyond that, a 2300 FIDE rating grants the title of FIDE Master (FM). Climbing higher, and achieving a 2400 rating earns you the prestigious title of International Master (IM), but you also need to achieve three IM norms from tournaments to qualify. The ultimate goal for many players is to become a Grandmaster (GM), requiring a 2500 rating and three GM norms. Grandmasters are the elite of the chess world, and players with a rating over 2700 are often referred to as Super Grandmasters.
