Ron Haviv is an Emmy nominated and award-winning photojournalist and cofounder of the photo agency VII, dedicated to documenting conflict and raising about human rights issues around the globe. His first photography book, Blood and Honey: A Balkan War Journal, was called “One of the best non-fiction books of the year,” by The Los Angeles Times and “A chilling but vastly important record of a people’s suffering,” by Newsweek. His two other monographs are Afghanistan: The Road to Kabul and Haiti: 12 January 2010. Haviv has produced an unflinching record of the injustices of war and his photography has had singular impact. His work in the Balkans, which spanned over a decade of conflict, was used as evidence to indict and convict war criminals at the international tribunal in The Hague. President H.W. George Bush cited Haviv’s chilling photographs documenting paramilitary violence in Panama as one of the reasons for the 1989 American intervention. Haviv is the central character in six documentary films, including National Geographic Explorer’s Freelance in a World of Risk, in which he speaks about the dangers of combat photography, including his numerous detentions and close calls. He has provided expert analysis and commentary on ABC World News, BBC, CNN, NPR, MSNBC, NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America and The Charlie Rose Show.

In April 1992, photojournalist Ron Haviv was granted permission by the Serbian paramilitary leader known as Arkan to join his forces, the Tigers, as they entered the eastern Bosnian town of Bijeljina.
Haviv became a witness to some of the first atrocities in the Bosnian war as the Tigers assaulted and killed Bosniak civilians. Despite being told not to take photographs, Haviv managed to document some of what he saw.
Haviv continued to work in Bosnia throughout the war and later in Kosovo. His photographs provide some of the most stunning evidence of crimes from the Balkan wars (1991-99).
His work to expose human rights violations in the Balkans, Latin America, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa - notably in Sudan and Democratic Republic of the Congo - has earned him the reputation as one of today's finest photojournalists.

Ron Haviv (1965) is a photojournalist, producing work covering a broad spectrum of international conflict. He is the author of several photographic collections and the recipient of a number of awards. Haviv is also a co-founder of VII Photo Agency, which is dedicated to documenting change, conflict, and development of individuals, cultures and societies worldwide. He also lectures at universities, conducts workshops worldwide, and has appeared on a number of television news shows.
A graduate of New York University, Ron Haviv has covered conflict and other humanitarian crises worldwide since the end of the Cold War. Haviv is known for his broad documentation of the Yugoslav Wars: the battle of Vukovar in Croatia, the Siege of Sarajevo, the atrocities committed at Serb concentration camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the practice of ethnic cleansing as exhibited by Arkan's Tigers.
He has also photographed the city of Juárez, a battleground of the Mexican Drug War where civilian, law enforcement and cartel member casualties occur daily. Additionally, Haviv is noted for his coverage of the destruction of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, as well as the subsequent Cholera epidemic, and celebrity support and involvement in its reconstruction. Haviv's photography also sheds light on malnutrition in Bangladesh, clashes between Los Angeles gangs and police forces, the 2009 Afghan presidential elections, the Sri Lankan Civil War, the struggle for children in Darfur, among many other situations of conflict.

In September 2011 a group of photographers and writers who had covered the war in Bosnia met and decided to come back to Sarajevo on April 6th, 2012, to commemorate the beginning of the war and re-engage with the country. A meeting called 'Sarajevo 2012' took place, in cooperation with Memory Module. They also decided to make a photo book about the war. Jon Jones (project photo editor), Gary Knight (project production in collaboration with photographer Ziyah Gafic) and Remy Ourdan (project text editor) took the project on with the intention of making a book to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the war. They pulled together the work of over 50 bosnian and foreign photographers and writers who all volunteered their material. The hardback book contains 248 pages that includes the work of many of the leading photographers and writers of the time. It charts the course of the war from its beginning in April 1992 to the Dayton Peace Accord in December 1995. The book will be launched during the Sarajevo Film Festival on July 11th, 2012. The book will exist both in bosnian and in english. 250 copies of the book will be dispersed for free to libraries and academic institutions in Bosnia. In April 1992, photojournalist Ron Haviv was granted permission by the Serbian paramilitary leader known as Arkan to join his forces, the Tigers, as they entered the eastern Bosnian town of Bijeljina. Haviv became a witness to some of the first atrocities in the Bosnian war as the Tigers assaulted and killed Bosniak civilians. Despite being told not to take photographs, Haviv managed to document some of what he saw. Haviv continued to work in Bosnia throughout the war and later in Kosovo. His photographs provide some of the most stunning evidence of crimes from the Balkan wars (1991-99). Bosnia 1992-1995
In September 2011 a group of photographers and writers who had covered the war in Bosnia met and decided to come back to Sarajevo on April 6th, 2012, to commemorate the beginning of the war and re-engage with the country. A meeting called 'Sarajevo 2012' took place, in cooperation with Memory Module. They also decided to make a photo book about the war. Jon Jones (project photo editor), Gary Knight (project production in collaboration with photographer Ziyah Gafic) and Remy Ourdan (project text editor) took the project on with the intention of making a book to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the war. Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis: No Promises, by Ron Haviv in Tajikistan
VII Photo's Ron Haviv visited Médecins Sans Frontières' paediatric multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) program in Tajikistan, one of Asia's poorest countries, where the disease is indeed spreading at an alarming rate. Through the experience of Médecins Sans Frontières nurse Cindy Gibb, from New Zealand, Haviv documents this new and very dangerous medical front line. Patients with tuberculosis must undergo lengthy, arduous treatment regimens in the best of times. For those with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, or MDR-TB, however, the road back to health is even more difficult. Ron Haviv is an Emmy nominated and award-winning photojournalist and cofounder of the photo agency VII, dedicated to documenting conflict and raising about human rights issues around the globe. His first photography book, Blood and Honey: A Balkan War Journal, was called “One of the best non-fiction books of the year,” by The Los Angeles Times and “A chilling but vastly important record of a people’s suffering,” by Newsweek. His two other monographs are Afghanistan: The Road to Kabul and Haiti: 12 January 2010. Haviv has produced an unflinching record of the injustices of war and his photography has had singular impact. His work in the Balkans, which spanned over a decade of conflict, was used as evidence to indict and convict war criminals at the international tribunal in The Hague. President H.W. George Bush cited Haviv’s chilling photographs documenting paramilitary violence in Panama as one of the reasons for the 1989 American intervention. Haviv is the central character in six documentary films, including National Geographic Explorer’s Freelance in a World of Risk, in which he speaks about the dangers of combat photography, including his numerous detentions and close calls. He has provided expert analysis and commentary on ABC World News, BBC, CNN, NPR, MSNBC, NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America and The Charlie Rose Show.

In April 1992, photojournalist Ron Haviv was granted permission by the Serbian paramilitary leader known as Arkan to join his forces, the Tigers, as they entered the eastern Bosnian town of Bijeljina.
Haviv became a witness to some of the first atrocities in the Bosnian war as the Tigers assaulted and killed Bosniak civilians. Despite being told not to take photographs, Haviv managed to document some of what he saw.
Haviv continued to work in Bosnia throughout the war and later in Kosovo. His photographs provide some of the most stunning evidence of crimes from the Balkan wars (1991-99).
His work to expose human rights violations in the Balkans, Latin America, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa - notably in Sudan and Democratic Republic of the Congo - has earned him the reputation as one of today's finest photojournalists.

In September 2011 a group of photographers and writers who had covered the war in Bosnia met and decided to come back to Sarajevo on April 6th, 2012, to commemorate the beginning of the war and re-engage with the country. A meeting called 'Sarajevo 2012' took place, in cooperation with Memory Module.
They also decided to make a photo book about the war.
Jon Jones (project photo editor), Gary Knight (project production in collaboration with photographer Ziyah Gafic) and Remy Ourdan (project text editor) took the project on with the intention of making a book to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the war. They pulled together the work of over 50 bosnian and foreign photographers and writers who all volunteered their material.
The hardback book contains 248 pages that includes the work of many of the leading photographers and writers of the time. It charts the course of the war from its beginning in April 1992 to the Dayton Peace Accord in December 1995.
The book will be launched during the Sarajevo Film Festival on July 11th, 2012.
The book will exist both in bosnian and in english. 250 copies of the book will be dispersed for free to libraries and academic institutions in Bosnia.
