Action News is a local television newscast format in the United States. First conceived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, it is characterized by a tight format with strict time limits on set packages, a focus on surrounding suburbs, and a focus on young talent. It was a competitor to the "Eyewitness News" format.
The "Action News" format was conceived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at WFIL-TV (now WPVI-TV) by news director Mel Kampmann in 1970 as a response to the "Eyewitness News" format that was used on rival station KYW-TV. At this time, WFIL-TV was said to be "#4 in a three-station market."
The main difference between Action News and Eyewitness News was that the former was far more tightly formatted. Time limits were placed on packages – for instance, a reporter package could be no longer than 90 seconds. This difference enabled the station to cover more stories than its competitors. Another key difference was the focus on the surrounding Philadelphia suburban areas – a response to the movement of residents from the city to the suburbs. Finally, WPVI placed more emphasis on young talent – while WCAU-TV and KYW-TV used older, respected news anchors such as Vince Leonard, Tom Snyder, and John Facenda, WPVI had a young Larry Kane as its top anchor. Later, the station would add the very popular Jim O'Brien as its main weathercaster.
KTHV virtual channel 11 (VHF digital channel 12) is a CBS-affiliated television station located in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. The station is owned by Tegna, Inc. KTHV maintains studio facilities located on South Izard Street in downtown Little Rock, and its transmitter facilities are located atop Shinall Mountain, near the Chenal Valley neighborhood of Little Rock. On cable, KTHV is available on Comcast Xfinity channel 10 in standard definition and digital channel 233 in high definition.
The station first signed on the air on November 27, 1955; it was originally owned by the Arkansas Television Company, a consortium that included among others, the owners of radio station KWKH in Shreveport, the owners of the Arkansas Democrat, and businessman C.E. Lowry. The KTHV call letters were derived from former sister radio station KTHS (whose calls stood Kome To Hot Springs), which later became KAAY after being sold to LIN Broadcasting in the 1960s. It took the CBS affiliation from KATV, due to KTHS's long time affiliation with CBS Radio.

VERY special thanks to Phil Raley and KTHV-TV for this historic March 1, 1997 footage of the tornado outbreak. This is the first time in Arkansas History that a meterologist tracked a tornado live on the air. The Tornado that ripped through southwest Little Rock that day was rated an F-4. I will NEVER forget that saturday afternoon. I was living in a Beebe, AR house close to ASU Beebe and Beebe Public Schools when this happened live on KTHV's airwaves. I AM VERY SORRY FOR THE BUZZING NOISE ON THIS VCR. Try to ignore it. Phil Raley taped this 14 years ago and the VHS Cassate is really old now. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED AT ALL! All footage belongs to KTHV (CBS/Gannet) of Little Rock, Arkansas. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. ALL CREDITS GO THEM AND PHIL RALEY (The guy who recorded this...

Apologize for some of the dropputs due to this being from an old VCR videotape. This collection of vintage footage feautres the KATV STORM ALERT crawl graphics and beeping sound which is basically the exact same weather crawl graphics and beeping sounds that KAIT-TV of Joensboro, Arkansas & WREG-TV in Memphis, Tennesee used for a long time. Even though it's not 1990-2000 era First Alert 7 (R.I.P.) yet it's still worth to watch it.
