Surfing enthusiasts all know the day that changed big wave surfing. It was the day South African Chris Bertish won the Mavericks Big Wave Invitational in 2010, conquering the largest surf in paddle-out competition history.
'Ocean Driven' chronicles Bertish’s 15+ year development as a fearless and highly skilled waterman. Big wave legends and ocean specialists, including Jeff Clark, Carlos Burle, and Kelly Slater to Hanli Prinsloo, are also interviewed as part of the film, which features worldwide never-before-seen surfing footage from South Africa to Hawaii, Easter Island to Mexico, and of course, the record-setting 2010 Mavericks competition.
One example of what makes Bertish special: he won the grueling Mavericks competition using a borrowed wetsuit and surfboard because his own gear didn’t arrive after his 36-hour flight from South Africa.
The film will have its Los Angeles premiere on Thursday, March 24 at the Wiltern Theater (3790 Wilshire Blvd).
Bertish--internationally known, but unsponsored--will participate in a Q&A with special guests, followed by a poster signing and a screening of the film.
Tickets are available via Live Nation, and are $10-15. Click here for more info.
