Taj Burrow (born 2 June 1978) is an Australian professional surfer who, as of March 2014, is competing in the ASP World Tour.
Burrow was born in Yallingup, Western Australia, Australia to American parents and began surfing at age 7.
In 1998 he qualified for the ASP World Tour at the age of 18 years, becoming the youngest surfer to ever win a national title. Burrow had already earned a place on the world tour a year earlier, but he turned it down stating that, as a 17-year-old, he was "too young to do the tour full-on". After his first year on tour in 1998, Burrow claimed the ASP World Tour Rookie of the Year award after finishing 12th place in the rankings.
In 2007 Burrow won the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia. He backed this up with a victory at the 2007 Billabong Pro in Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa, where he claimed the title over the then 8-time world champion, Kelly Slater. This win helped to secure his 2nd-place ranking on the ASP Men's Tour, his second runner-up season placing.
A burrow is a hole or tunnel excavated into the ground by an animal to create a space suitable for habitation, temporary refuge, or as a byproduct of locomotion. Burrows provide a form of shelter against predation and exposure to the elements and can be found in nearly every biome and among various biological interactions. Burrows can be constructed into a wide variety of substrates, and can range in complexity from a simple tube a few centimetres long to a complex network of interconnecting tunnels and chambers hundreds or thousands of metres in total length, such as a well-developed rabbit warren.
A wide variety of vertebrates construct or use burrows in many different types of substrate and . Mammals are perhaps most well known for burrowing, especially Insectivora like the voracious mole, and rodents like the prolific gopher and groundhog. The rabbit, a member of the family Lagomorpha, is a well-known burrower. There are estimations that a single groundhog burrow occupies a full cubic metre, displacing 320 kilograms of dirt. Even Carnivora like the meerkat, and marsupials, are burrowers. The largest burrowing animal is probably the polar bear when it makes its maternity den in snow or earth.
Robert Kelly Slater (born February 11, 1972) is an American professional surfer known for his competitive prowess and style. He has been crowned World Surf League Champion a record 11 times, including 5 consecutive titles in 1994–98. He is the youngest (at age 20) and the oldest (at age 39) to win the title. Upon winning his 5th world title in 1997, Slater passed Australian surfer Mark Richards to become the most successful champion in the history of the sport. In 2007 he also became the all-time leader in career event wins by winning the Boost Mobile Pro event at Lower Trestles near San Clemente, California. The previous record was held by Slater's childhood hero, three-time world champion Tom Curren.
After earlier being awarded the title prematurely as a result of a miscalculation by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), on November 6, 2011 Slater officially won his eleventh ASP world title at the Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco, by winning his 4th round heat.
In May 2005, in the final heat of the Billabong Tahiti Pro contest at Teahupo'o, Slater became the first surfer ever to be awarded two perfect scores for a total 20 out of 20 points under the ASP two-wave scoring system (the corresponding honor under the previous three-wave system belongs to fellow American Shane Beschen who achieved the feat in 1996). He did it again on June 2013 at the quarter finals at the Volcom Fiji Pro with two perfect ten waves, only the fourth person in history to do so. Since 1990, Slater had been sponsored primarily by surfwear industry giant Quiksilver until his recent departure on April 1, 2014 to collaborate with fashion brand conglomerate Kering .
John John Florence (born 18 October 1992) is a professional surfer from Hawaii. He is known as "one of the most dominant Pipe surfers of his era" and for his tube riding and aerial abilities. In 2013, Florence was listed as the 23rd greatest surfer of all time by Surf Europe magazine.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, as the oldest of three children, Florence grew up in Hale'iwa in an ocean-side house at Banzai Pipeline. He resides with his mother, Alexandra, and his two younger brothers Nathan and Ivan. He was introduced to surfing by Alexandra, who is a surfer herself. With his mother's help, Florence first rode on a surfboard when he was six-months old, and he was surfing on his own by the age of five.
Since joining the World Surf League (WSL) and competing against the best surfers in the world, Florence has ranked 34th in 2011, 4th in 2012, 10th in 2013, and 3rd in 2014. As of November 4, 2015, Florence was positioned 15th in the world for 2015.
At the age of 13, standing at 4'11" and weighing 85 pounds, Florence became the youngest surfer ever to compete in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, which consists of three big-wave surfing contests in Hawaii. He had previously won five amateur awards, the 2003 1st NSSA Nationals Open Mini Grom, the 2005 1st NSSA Nationals Open Boy's, the 2005 NSSA Open Boys and the Explorer Menehune Champion. He did not pass the first round, but he did score higher than Shane Dorian, a professional surfer twenty years Florence's senior. Afterwards, Florence said he was "pretty scared" but that he was "happy with how [he] did".

Taj Burrow recently had his first child, a baby girl named Arabella Rose. She’s perfect just like her mommy and daddy. But this piece features the new dad doing what he’s done better than anyone we’ve ever had the pleasure of watching for over two decades: having fun surfing. No one has shown this and reminded us of this more and done it with raw, grace, smiles and passion more than papa Taj. And we fucking love Taj for it. Consider this our own little B-sides tribute to him, maybe riffing on Seven Days, Seven Slaves trip from his youth. But mostly just amping on his enthusiasm and what a rad dad and surfer he is. Thanks Taj.
Taj Burrow froths harder then most surfers and as seen in this clip one of the greatest feelings ever is scoring an epic swell with your best mates. Taj Burrow surf because there's nothing better than getting crazy barrels with your mates!
Amazing show last week in front of the Resort
Stab’s never hidden the fact that Taj is our all-time favourite. He’s a gent who has perfectly balanced the most pointy end of high performance, with a talent for truly enjoying the high life that comes with pro surfing. He’s the embodiment of how glamorous the Dream Tour can really be. And his legacy reverberates through generations below, largely thanks to his industry-disrupting film catalogue; Sabotaj, Montaj, Fair Bits, and more. While some of the pros from the Billabong Team were in Europe this September/October for the WCT Events and other team projects we jumped on the opportunity to ask them some of the questions you - the reader - have asked them on our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts. Each pro chose the 3 questions he (or she in the case of Justine Dupont) liked the most and answered these questions on video. Here are Taj answers. Enjoy! All the winners (the 3 people who asked Taj these questions) will be contacted shortly and we'll send them some goodies. http://eu.billabong.com/

“I’m free! Best feeling ever! So many trips to come!” This is what Taj Burrow wrote me when I congratulated him on his plans for retirement from World Tour competition. Taj has been competing on surfing’s World Tour for 18 years. And as we speak, he’s probably doing a Skull Drag in Fiji where he’s celebrating with fellow competitors during the lay days of what will be his final event on the tour. Good for him. And a fine way to send off one of the most influentially important surfers in our history. With a new daughter and a reinvigorated zest for surfing and living, Taj is hanging up the jersey, but he’s far from done adding to a near perfect career. We actually dubbed him The World’s Greatest Professional Surfer of All-Time for his unending influence and authenticity to an activity/spo...
