Soundproofing is any means of reducing the sound pressure with respect to a specified sound source and receptor. There are several basic approaches to reducing sound: increasing the distance between source and receiver, using noise barriers to reflect or absorb the energy of the sound waves, using damping structures such as sound baffles, or using active antinoise sound generators.
Two distinct soundproofing problems may need to be considered when designing acoustic treatments - to improve the sound within a room (See anechoic chamber), and reduce sound leakage to/from adjacent rooms or outdoors. Acoustic quieting, noise mitigation, and noise control can be used to limit unwanted noise. Soundproofing can suppress unwanted indirect sound waves such as reflections that cause echoes and resonances that cause reverberation. Soundproofing can reduce the transmission of unwanted direct sound waves from the source to an involuntary listener through the use of distance and intervening objects in the sound path.
Soundproofing was also something I thought would cost a lot of money and damage walls, upon moving into my new house I decided to do some research as to whether or not it can be done for cheap without damaging walls, luckily I found a way of doing and in this video I share that with you, this method is most effective with hard walls and won't work very well on brick or wall paper, If you have any other soundproof tips then leave them in a comment below to help out others! We are using Quietrock brand Quietputty pads on the outlets, double hanging the sheetrock, and using Quietpipe cast iron plumbing pipes.

Green Glue http://amzn.to/1VQqQ9q Putty Pads we used: http://amzn.to/1VQrEuW Our company is building out a commercial video and audio recording studio and this video focuses on the Sound Proofing methods. Including sound isolation clips, green glue, double walls, and insulation. I think that many of these techniques could be used on a media room, home theater, or even when pro level sound proofing is needed for other rooms. Best, Matt Risinger Risinger Homes in Austin TX

In this video I explore the possibility of making DIY sound absorption panels on a budget, later comparing them to much more expensive acoustic foam. The results are pretty amazing! There have been many comments pointing out that my test only measures transmission and not reflection, so is essentially unsuitable for my initial testing goal. While this is partly true, testing reflection is pretty difficult to do in a home environment, and the only way to do it that I can think of would be to spend a long time in the middle of a field with a powerful speaker and mic rig, which is really beyond the scope of what I was prepared to do for the video. My tests are not rendered pointless however - it would do no good to have only measured reflection, as the thinnest lightest material would have ...
