Redondo Beach may refer to:
California (i/ˌkælᵻˈfɔːrnjə/ KAL-ə-FORN-yə, /ˌkælᵻˈfɔːrniə/ KAL-ə-FAWR-nee-ə) is a state located on the West Coast of the United States. It is the most populous U.S. state, with 39 million people, and the third largest state by area (after Alaska and Texas). California is bordered by Oregon to the north, Nevada to the east, Arizona to the southeast, and the Mexican state of Baja California to the south. It contains the nation's second most populous census statistical area (Greater Los Angeles Area) and the fifth most populous (San Francisco Bay Area), and eight of the nation's 50 most populated cities (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento, Long Beach, and Oakland). Sacramento has been the state capital since 1854.
What is now California was first settled by various Native American tribes before being explored by a number of European expeditions during the 16th and 17th centuries. It was then claimed by the Spanish Empire as part of Alta California in the larger territory of New Spain. Alta California became a part of Mexico in 1821 following its successful war for independence, but was ceded to the United States in 1848 after the Mexican–American War. The western portion of Alta California was organized as the State of California, which was admitted as the 31st state on September 9, 1850. The California Gold Rush starting in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic change, with large-scale immigration from the east and abroad with an accompanying economic boom.
The Redondo Beach pier is located in Redondo Beach, California and stretches out onto the Pacific Ocean. The pier has been rebuilt and altered by storms and redevelopments. Its official name is "Municipal Pier", and it has also been called the "Endless Pier". Earlier versions were known as "Pleasure Pier" and "Horseshoe Pier".
The pier started out as a disjointed group of wharves near the end of the 19th century, but evolved into an interconnected structure after a series of storms and demolitions throughout the 20th century. The pier area used to be heavily crowded with tourists and locals during the 1970s, but began to decline after the nearby Seaport Village project failed and went into bankruptcy in 1982.
In 1988, the pier was severely battered by two winter storms, and on May 27 it burned to the waterline due to an electrical short circuit (the fire was so large that a SigAlert was announced for the San Diego Freeway several miles away). The pier's modern reinforced concrete version was completed in 1995, and has brought back the appeal to Redondo Beach's business district ever since.
Redondo (rounded in Spanish and Portuguese) may refer to:
Redondo Beach is one of the three Beach Cities located in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 66,748 at the 2010 census, up from 63,261 at the 2000 census. The city is located in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles area.
Redondo Beach was originally part of the 1785 Rancho San Pedro Spanish land grant that later became the South Redondo area. The city's territory has an unusual shape including an area along the beach (South Redondo Beach) and another strip inland from Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach (North Redondo Beach). The primary attractions include Municipal Pier and the sandy beach, popular with tourists and a variety of sports enthusiasts. The western terminus of the Metro Rail Green Line is in North Redondo Beach.
The Chowigna Indians used the site of today's "Wilderness Park" in Redondo Beach, California as a lookout place. The wetlands located at the site of today's AES power plant in Redondo Beach were a source of foods including halibut, lobster, and sea bass, and also of salt. In the 1700s, the Chowigna bartered salt from the old Redondo Salt Lake, "a spring-fed salt lake about 200 yards wide and 600 yards long situated about 200 yards from the ocean", with other tribes. Their village by the lake was called "Onoova-nga", or "Place of Salt." The Chowigna were relocated to missions in 1854, when Manuel Dominguez sold 215 acres of Rancho San Pedro, including the lake, to Henry Allanson and William Johnson for the Pacific Salt Works.

A mother humpback whale and her calf put on an amazing show right off the coast of Redondo Beach, California January 13, 2015. Another calf--apparently older--prefers to spend time by himself a little further away, and can be seen in some of the photos at the end of this clip. Pacific dolphins also make an appearance :) Boat: The Voyager (www.voyagerexcursions.com). I shot the video using a Flip camera. Some great photographers were also on board: Laura Stella Cooper, Walt Conklin, and Gregg Gentry--one of Gregg's shots from that day made the cover of the Easy Reader weekly. I have included their photos in the end montage. Music: instrumental track from my song "Dancing on the Beach" (http://www.soundclick.com/paypal/default.cfm?songid=9785454&bandid;=139937) More information: Voyager Boat:...

This is part of my regular ride on the Marvin Braude Bike Trail aka "The Strand" that starts in Torrance California and runs north mostly alongside the Pacific Ocean to it's end 22 miles of trail later in Pacific Palisades. This section includes Torrance County Beach, Redondo County Beach, King Harbor, Hermosa Beach and ends at the Manhattan Beach Municipal Pier. This was shot in the middle of May with some pretty good winds off the ocean. The bicycle is a 2006 Cannondale Road Warrior 400 and the camera is a GoPro Hero HD.

Late afternoon, dreaming hotel
We just had the quarrel that sent you away
I was looking for you, are you gone, gone?
Called you on the phone, another dimension
Well, you never returned, oh you know what I mean
I went looking for you, are you gone, gone?
Down by the ocean, it was so dismal
Women all standing with shock on their faces
Sad description, oh I was looking for you
Everyone was singing, girl is washed up
On Redondo beach and everyone is so sad
I was looking for you, are you gone, gone?
Pretty little girl, everyone cried
She was the victim of sweet suicide
I went looking for you, are you gone, gone?
Down by the ocean it was so dismal
Women all standing with shock on their faces
Sad description, oh I was just looking for you
Desk clerk told me girl was washed up
Was small, an angel with apple blonde hair, now
I went looking for you, are you gone, gone?
Picked up my key, didn't reply
Went to my room, started to cry
You were small, an angel, are you gone, gone?
Down by the ocean it was so dismal
I was just standing with shock on my face
The Hearse pulled away and the girl that had died, it was you
You'll never return into my arms 'cause you were gone, gone
Never return into my arms 'cause you were gone, gone
Gone, gone
Gone, gone
