NEFIS ORGANIZES ALL INDIA CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL AGAINST THE MANIPUR POLICE COMMANDOS FOR KILLING SANJIT AND RABINA IN FAKE ENCOUNTER IN 2009!
SIMULTANEOUS PROTESTS AT CHANDIGARH, GWALIOR, KOKRAJHAR, IMPHAL, DELHI AND VARIOUS PLACES ACROSS THE COUNTRY, DEMANDING JUSTICE FOR SANJIT!
People from different North-East communities gathered today in huge numbers, at Arts Faculty, Delhi University under the banner of North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) and took out a candle light vigil to protest against the fake encounter of Chongkham Sanjit and Rabina by Manipur Police Commandos (MPC) in 2009. NEFIS had organized All India Candle Light Vigil to gather support across the country for demanding justice for Sanjit and Rabina. As part of All India Protest, candle light vigils were also organized at Panjab University in Chandigarh, Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education in Gwalior, Kokrakhar inAssam, Manipur University in Manipur, as well as in various other places.
It is to be noted that the Police had killed Sanjit and Rabina on the orders of the then Additional SP, Imphal West, Dr Akoijam Jhalajhit, who is now SP of the same district to “finish them off”. This hard fact amply shows the way in which Manipur Police Commandos have been allowed to function by the Manipur Government and have consequently become adept at ‘finishing off’ people in extra-judicial killings and fake encounters. This is a clear case of state-sponsored fake encounter, denying people their basic right to be tried through a due legal process.
Delhi University Professor, Deepak Naorem and Eminent Women’s Rights Activist, Dr. Maya John were also present at the occasion. Dr. Maya John in her speech pointed out the way in which the Indian State and its arm, Manipur Government abuse their power to brutally curb the rights of their own people. The gathering demanded that Manipur Chief Minister and state government should be held responsible for these extra-judicial killings and probe should be ordered against them. They also demanded the then Additional SP, Imphal West, Akoijam Jhalajhit, should be immediately suspended and an inquiry should be initiated against him and appropriate compensation should be provided to the victim’s family. The demands also include an end of the institutionalisation and legalisation provided by the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958. The Government should tender an immediate apology not only to the victim’s family, but to the people of Manipur for brutally violating their democratic rights.
NEFIS has pledged to continue its struggle and build a huge movement against the Manipur Government, till such extra-judicial killings and fake encounters stop and the culprits are brought to justice.

नेफिस ने अखिल भारतीय कैंडल लाइट विरोध मार्च का किया आयोजन!
मणिपुर पुलिस द्वारा संजीत और रबीना की हत्या का हुआ विरोध!
दिल्ली, चंडीगढ़, ग्वालियर, असम, मणिपुर और अन्य जगहों पर इन्साफ के लिए हुए प्रदर्शन!
आज उत्तर-पूर्व भारत के सभी समुदायों एवं भारत के अन्य स्थानों के छात्रों और लोगों ने आर्ट्स फैकल्टी, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में नार्थ-ईस्ट फोरम फॉर इंटरनेशनल सॉलिडेरिटी (NEFIS) के बैनर तले इकट्ठा होकर, मणिपुर पुलिस के द्वारा 2009 में क़त्ल किये गए संजीत और रबीना, के खिलाफ कैंडल लाइट मार्च निकालकर अपना विरोध दर्शाया| नेफिस (NEFIS) ने यह विरोध मार्च, संजीत और रबीना के इन्साफ के लिए अखिल भारतीय स्तर पर लोगों से समर्थन प्राप्त करने के लिए आयोजित किया था| इस अखिल भारतीय विरोध के तहत, चंडीगढ़ में पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय, ग्वालियर में एल.एन.आई.पी. विश्वविद्यालय, असम में कोकराझार, मणिपुर में मणिपुर विश्वविद्यालय, और भारत की अन्य जगहों पर, कैंडल लाइट मार्च आयोजित किये गए|
ज्ञात हो कि मणिपुर पुलिस ने संजीत और रबीना को तत्कालीन एडिशनल एस.पी., इम्फाल पश्चिम, अकोइजम झालाजीत के कहने पर ‘खत्म किया’ था| यह दर्शाता है की किस तरीके से मणिपुर पुलिस को लोगों को फर्जी मुठभेड़ में खत्म करने की आज़ादी दी गयी है| यह मणिपुर राज्य सरकार द्वारा प्रायोजित एक फर्जी मुठभेड़ थी, जिसके द्वारा लोगों पर कानूनी तरीके से केस न चलाकर, उन्हें उनके मूल अधिकारों से वंचित किया गया|
दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के प्रोफेसर, दीपक नोरेम और प्रख्यात महिला अधिकार कार्यकर्ता, डॉ. माया जॉन भी इस मौके पर मौजूद थे| डॉ. माया जॉन ने अपने वक्तव्य में बताया कि किस तरह से भारतीय राज्य और उसका अंग, मणिपुर सरकार अपनी ताकत के गलत प्रयोग द्वारा लोगों के अधिकारों को कुचलता है| कैंडल लाइट मार्च में शामिल लोगों ने मणिपुर मुख्यमंत्री और राज्य सरकार को दोषी मानकर उनपर करवाई करने की मांग करी| उन्होंने यह भी मांग करी कि एस.पी. अकोइजम झालाजीत को बर्खास्त कर उसपर मुकदमा चलाया जाये और संजीत और रबीना के परिवारों को मुआवजा दिया जाए| आफ्सपा 1958 जैसे कानून द्वारा लोगों के मौलिक अधिकारों के हनन को भी ख़त्म किया जाए| राज्य सरकार को संजीत और रबीना के परिवारों और मणिपुर के लोगों से, उनके अधिकारों को कुचलने के लिए माफ़ी मांगनी चाहिए|
नेफिस ने मणिपुर सरकार के खिलाफ लोगों का एक विशाल आन्दोलन खड़ा करने और और अपने संघर्ष को अधिकारों के हनन और फर्जी मुठभेड़ ख़त्म होने तक, जारी रखने का संकल्प लिया है|
