Its universal character, being embedded in MS Excel environment and its capability of connecting to other files make it a programme that can be used by companies and organisations of any specialisation.
DEFINITION OF FEATURES:
1. Choropleth map -- a map of Austria displaying the intensity of a given phenomenon in individual states and districts with changing hues. The point of reference of a given hue is the legend located beside the map. The Programme has 10 predefined colour sets. The advantage of this feature is that the choropleth map is simple and easy to understand.
2. Bubble chart -- a chart displaying the intensity of a phenomenon for a given location with changes in bubble size. In general, the bigger the bubble, the greater the intensity of a phenomenon at a given location. The programme includes 82 Austrian locations, more can be added. The advantage of this feature is easy creation and interpretation of a bubble chart.
3. Advanced bubble chart -- a chart displaying the intensity of two phenomena for given locations with changes in bubble size and hue. The default legend is red and blue. The feature allows to analyse the relations between two variables (e.g. revenues of a company's divisions vs. profit) in relation to a location they describe (e.g. the locations where divisions are). Its interpretation requires practice, but it gives a broad spectrum of analytic possibilities (e.g. the big blue spots are the divisions with high revenues and sizeable profit, the big red spots are the divisions with high revenues and high loss).
4. Message displaying the name of a state or district -- when an area is clicked a window pops up and displays the name of state/district and an exact number concealed under a given hue.
5. Postal codes (PLZ) -- district postal code database with a mechanism allowing to present them quickly on the map. The arrangement of the data: postal code, number.
6. 3 basic indicators of the Statistics Austria -- the database of 3 indicators of the central statistical office for each district: population, area, and population density. The feature allows to relate the available data to, e.g. the number of inhabitants. This way, for example a market potential of a given district (e.g. sales vs. number of inhabitants) can be examined.
7. Control button for the choropleth map -- a button controlling the choropleth map allowing to change the type of district data with one click.

A choropleth map (from Greek χώρο ("area/region") + πλήθος ("multitude")) is a thematic map in which areas are shaded or patterned in proportion to the measurement of the statistical variable being displayed on the map, such as population density or per-capita income.
The choropleth map provides an easy way to visualize how a measurement varies across a geographic area or it shows the level of variability within a region.
Overview
The earliest known choropleth map was created in 1826 by Baron Pierre Charles Dupin. The term "choroplethe map" was introduced in 1938 by the geographer John Kirtland Wright in "Problems in Population Mapping".
Choropleth maps are based on statistical data aggregated over previously defined regions (e.g., counties), in contrast to area-class and isarithmic maps, in which region boundaries are defined by data patterns. Thus, where defined regions are important to a discussion, as in an election map divided by electoral regions, choropleths are preferred.

by Michael Bowman D3.js is a powerful javascript-based toolkit that can be used to build beautiful, interactive, data-driven maps for your users. In this talk, Michael will first present the basics of mapping in D3.js, and then show how to build several different types of thematic maps with it including choropleth, dot density, and proportional symbol maps. Along the way, special attention will be paid to how we can incorporate better design into our maps by utilizing colorbrewer color scales, using appropriate map projections, and making use of D3’s animation tools to make your maps stand a cut above the everyday defaults seen on the web. In this episode, we go over what we've acoomplished so far, and then set out to tackle the resize event—trying to make it so that our map stays centered even when the size of our browser window changes, or when we switch from a desktop to a smartphone or tablet. We get part of the way there, and learn enough to point us in the right direction for next time.
