Plot: A group of students are spending the summer vacation at a university camp studying the science of linguistics. One of the camp directors, Jaroslaw, is a young professor who prefers the straightforward, intimate approach to students. He is opposed in his liberal views by Jakub, who likes to manipulate people. There is a confrontation from the beginning when Jaroslaw allows to attend the seminar a student who presents the views not according to the official line. In the end, a jury prize is given to mediocre paper, while the suspected school of thought still draws a recommendation. Finally the deputy rector arrives for the closing ceremonies, and since he disfavors the line of thought awarded by the recommendation the tensions rise. They climax when student in question bites the rector in the ear while receiving recommendation. The confrontation results in a scandal and the police is called in.

What actually Happened ? JNU Teacher speech after students , Media Attacked In Court
The
ABVP members started threatening and intimidating the students and organizers.
As the sprawling campus of the
Jawaharlal Nehru University in the national capital continued to simmer, a student who was present at the
Feb 9 meeting called to protest the hanging of terror mastermind
Afzal Guru, recounted the sequence of events that led to the arrest of students' union president
Kanhaiya Kumar and subsequently snowballed into a huge state-vs-students tug of war.
"I am a
JNU student studying right now and also happen to be a witness from distance for some events that happened on that controversial date -
9th February 2016. So, that kinda renders me more legitimate to answer this question than people who only know about it through Zee
News and
Times Now," JNU student Harshit Agarwal wrote in response to a Quora question on the issue.
His answer has been viewed over 17,
000 times and has been shared by former
Union Minister Shashi Tharoor on social platforms, among others.
"On 9th February 2016, ex-members of a student organization
DSU, short for '
Democratic Students Union' had called for a cultural meeting of a protest against what they called 'the judicial killing of Afzal Guru and
Maqbool Bhat' and in solidarity with 'the struggle of
Kashmiri people for their democratic right to self-determination.' A lot of Kashmiri students from inside and outside the campus were to attend the event. 'Democratic Students Union(DSU)' is an ultra-leftist group in the campus that believes in the ideology of Maoism.
It's a very small group of very well read students. They are not terrorists or naxals by any means. I have been in the campus for more than 2 years and never have I witnessed or heard of them committing a terror activity as much as of throwing a stone, let alone overthrowing the state," Agarwal wrote.

2015 Alumni Leadership Conference: Assistant Professor Renée Richardson Gosline
Renée
Richardson Gosline is the
MIT Sloan Zenon Zannetos
1955 Career Development Assistant Professor of Marketing. Her research focuses on the relationship between social networks and consumer brand relationships. Gosline studies how we process information about products, information, and about each other. And cognitive associations and heuristics—decision-making shortcuts provided by the subconscious—are often at the root of bias.
In this keynote, Gosline applies her background in marketing to
MIT’s goals of diversity and inclusion in leadership, and how alumni can contribute to advancing a respectful and caring community that can empower everyone to learn and succeed at MIT.

February 16 -
Home on the ice: Sea ice change and Arctic wildlife
Olivia Lee,
Research Assistant professor, UAF-IARC
Sea ice plays a prominent role in the lives of walrus and ice seals in the Arctic. Learn
how scientists and subsistence hunters are collaborating using a combination of satellite imagery and local observations to study the effects of changing sea ice on the behavior and migration of walrus, bearded, ringed and spotted seals in
Alaska.
Olivia Lee has a PhD in wildlife and fisheries sciences from
Texas A&M; University, and a BA in marine science from the
University of Hawaii at Hilo. She has studied seals and sea otters in Alaska and
Russia, looking at migration patterns and how they use their environment to find food. She is interested in using technology and local knowledge to track changes in sea ice habitat in the Arctic.

Artist Lecture Series Invited Faculty Lecture -- Dr. Laura Logan, Assistant Professor of Sociology
“
Street Harassment at
Intersections"
From Dr.
Logan: "
Street harassment has been a social problem for many decades, with some of the earliest reports originating in the 1800s. Yet only in recent decades has street harassment been the focus of organized global social movement and feminist action. I will discuss street harassment and the social movement to end it, and how both are related to race, gender and sexual orientation."

Science for Alaska Lecture Series 2016 - Martin Cenek, Assistant Professor, UAA
January 19 - What do nano-technology, brain and border patrol have in common?
Martin Cenek,
Assistant Professor,
UAA
Climate change significantly effects vast regions of the sensitive arctic landscape. As a result, previously inaccessible locations will open up for commerce, research, natural resource exploration and recreation, with an increase of human traffic and environmental impact. The ability to monitor the changes is vital
for environmental monitoring, resource management, disaster response and patterns of use. The arctic region’s vast size, harsh environmental conditions, lack of reliable power and sparse communication infrastructure requires alternative means of survey and monitoring tools: cheap, redundant, decentralized, distributed and asynchronous. This talk will present a conceptual design of sensor networks that are inspired by the neuro-physiology of the human brain for event sensing in vast remote regions.
