COBRA (backronym for COmmando Battalion for Resolute Action) is a specialised unit of the CRPF created to counter the Naxalite problem in India. This specialised CRPF unit is one of the few units of the Central Armed Police Forces in the country who are specifically trained in guerilla warfare. This elite fighting unit has been trained to track, hunt and eliminate small Naxalite groups. There are currently 10 COBRA units. CoBRA Sector is continuous winner of Best CRPF Anniversary Parade 2009, 2010 and 2011. Cobra is the best-equipped Central Armed Police unit in the country, set up with a grant of ₹ 13 thousand million [ long scale ] (or 13 billion [ Short scale ]) from the Central government.[citation needed] They have been armed as a regular infantry platoon with:- 1.INSAS rifles 2.AK rifles 3.X-95 4.Browning Hi-Power 5.Glock pistols 6.Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns 7.Carl Gustav recoilless rifle.[citation needed] Cobras also have hi-tech electronic surveillance equipment and well-trained sniper teams, armed with:- 8.Dragunov SVD 9. Mauser SP66 10.Heckler & Koch MSG-90 sniper rifles. All the equipment for the Cobra is manufactured indigenously by the Indian Ordnance Factories controlled by the Ordnance Factories Board, Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Unrest was witnessed again on Tuesday at NIT Srinagar, the scene of last week's clash, with outstation students expressing a sense of insecurity and attempting to leave the campus, leading to a confrontation with police which resorted to lathicharge in which some were injured. With the situation being tense, CRPF was tonight deployed at campus and Jammu and Kashmir government assured full security to the students from other states studying here. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also called up Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and discussed with her the situation at NIT. Some non-local students attempted to leave the campus and return to their home states, saying, they were "not feeling safe" inside the campus, a police official said. About 500 NIT Srinagar students in shape of mob carrying banners tried to take out a march and reached the main gate on main road on Tuesday evening. As per the police, their forces stopped them and told them to move back. But the students resorted to violence by assaulting policemen and started stone pelting. Jammu and Kashmir Police said that they have lodged a case, FIR no 45, at Nigeen Police Station and the investigation has begun. Police said that the situation has been brought under control. The deployment chased the mob and in this melee some of the students got injured who were given first aid, said the police.
