ABOUT
PLAY DOH:
Play-Doh is
a modeling compound used by young children for art and craft projects at home and in school. Composed of flour, water, salt, boric acid, and mineral oil, the product was first manufactured in
Cincinnati, Ohio,
U.S., as a wallpaper cleaner in the
1930s. When a classroom of children began using the wallpaper cleaner as a modeling compound, the product was reworked and marketed to
Cincinnati schools in the mid-1950s. Play-Doh was demonstrated at an educational convention in
1956 and prominent department stores opened retail accounts. Advertisements promoting Play-Doh on influential children's television shows in
1957 furthered the product's sales. Since its launch on the toy market in the mid-1950s, Play-Doh has generated a considerable amount of ancillary merchandise such as The
Fun Factory. In
2003, the
Toy Industry Association named Play-Doh in its "
Century of
Toys List".

About Shopkins:
Shopkins, from
Moose Toys, are a range of 148 grocery store-themed characters for girls to collect, share, and trade. I love how the Shopkins come packaged with a shopping bag and a hand basket, which can be used to tote around lots of Shopkins friends. Shopkins are categorized by their location in the grocery store, such as toiletries, fruits, vegetables, frozen foods, and bakery items.
Girls can add to their collection with play sets such as the
Fruit and Veg
Stand, the
Spin Mix
Bakery Stand, and the Small
Mart. The mystery Shopkins surprise in the 12-Pack really adds to the fun—kids can see 10 of the Shopkins in the package, along with four shopping bags and a basket, but inside the basket are two blind-packed Shopkins.
Kids love to collect things, and Shopkins provide the perfect way to build a collection and get additional play value with accessories. The characters are small—another element girls tend to love—and they’re colorful and cute. Some of my favorites include
Toof the toothbrush, Lippy
Lips the lipstick, D’lish
Donut, and Cupcake
Queen, from the limited-edition group. Limited-edition, rare, and ultra-rare classified Shopkins, such as the
Golden Shopkin, add an additional layer of fun to the range, encouraging girls to collect as many as they can while they’re still available.Shopkins are now available at
Target and
Toys “R” Us.
