Cardiff: No Borders Noise Demo outside the UK Home Office Buildings (Wales, UK)
Wednesday, September 24th, 2014
On the 2nd of September, at 12pm around 50 people gathered outside the Cardiff Home Office Buildings for the noise demo planned as part of the Stop NATO Cymru week of action. In the past, there have been monthly noise demos by No Borders South Wales group, with many different points of focus, ID cards, destitution, dawn-raids and anti-deportation. The focus of this particular demo was how border controls relate to militarism and the NATO war machine. This was called because NATO are part of the samesystem that divides and isolates through borders. Borders are a mechanism for the divide and rule of working class people. Borders kill innocent people around the world as does militarism. (more…)

12-hour riot after detainee dies at Morton Hall Immigration Removal Centre (UK)
Tuesday, September 9th, 2014
From ABC Hurricane:
A brief spark of revolt was seen from those incarcerated in Morton Hall Immigration Removal Centre near Lincoln after a Bengali man, who had been in the prison only three days, died on September 5.
Disorder broke out at breakfast on September 6 and staff were forced to flee, withdrawing to a “place of safety”.
A ‘Tornado’ team, or ‘national tactical response group’, was called into the prison to quell the riot, which lasted all day.
Solidarity with prisoners in struggle everywhere!

NB: There have been many riots in UK immigration centres over the last 18 months, and the mainstream media are keeping the incidents from being widely known, whilst spreading intolerable racism against migrants and stirring up hateful nationalism. Business as usual…

Continued Assaults on Asylum Seekers in Sofia Central Prison (Bulgaria)
Sunday, July 20th, 2014
325 receives and transmits:
On the 6/7/14 at 8.30am the guard Peter Petrov performed the morning roll call, he entered cell 11 and started shouting in Bulgarian, a language no one present understood. As the roll call finished for that cell he then started to assault a mentally ill man from behind as he was not moving fast enough. The mentally ill man is about 45kgs, about 55 years old and a citizen of Comoros. He then retaliated and slapped the guard back after the guard Peter Petrov hit him and kicked him again, the guard came at the Comoros Islander again and the African took a chair to keep the guard away from him.
Three other guards came and only saw the Comoros islander with the chair and so they beat him too. Peter Petrov then ran out of the cell, locked all the cell doors and called for “assistance”. Forty guards came from two work shifts, from the Saturday evening shift and the incoming Sunday day shift, as now shifts are 12 hours. The forty guards summarily beat everyone in the cell – the man from Comoros, 4 Afghanis, 1 Pakistani, 1 Dutch man and an Algerian. They were not resisting in any way and most of the wounds inflicted by the guards are on their backs as they tried to cover their faces on the ground. All of these victims are incarcerated for illegal border crossing- they are all asylum seekers. (more…)

Saturday, June 7th, 2014
(more…)

Detainees starting hungerstrikes and protests in 3 Immigration Removal Centres (UK)
Wednesday, May 7th, 2014
On Friday 2 May over 150 detainees in Harmondsworth migration prison occupied the main courtyard in a sit down protest and began a mass hunger strike. On Monday 5 May supporters held solidarity noise demos outside Harmondsworth detention centre and simultaneously at Dungavel detention centre in Scotland. Yesterday evening, Tuesday 6 May, protests started to spread to Colnbrook and Brook House migration prisons.
At lunchtime on Friday 2 May over 150 people detained in Harmondsworth, the UK’s largest migration prison run by corporation GEO group for the Home Office, staged a sit-down occupation of the main courtyard and began hunger strike. They issued a set of demands (see below) protesting against the ‘Fast Track’ system, under which refugees seeking asylum are immediately imprisoned before their claims are even heard, as well as further mistreatment in detention. Updated: Solidarity with Irina Putiloss, LGBTQ activist facing deportation to Russia (UK)

UPDATE: Ira has been released!
http://en.squat.net/2013/12/09/london-solidarity-demo-with-195-mare-street-squatter-and-russian-lgbtq-activist-facing-deportation/
LGBTQ ACTIVIST IRINA PUTILOSS FACES DEPORTATION TO RUSSIA DESPITE FLEEING BRUTAL PERSECUTION SIX MONTHS AGO.
Irina is an LGBTQ activist seeking asylum in the UK. On 6/12/13 she was unexpectedly detained by UKBA officials and taken to Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre. Yarl’s Wood has been the subject of recent controversy as cases of sexual abuse by private security guards against female detainees came to light (1). Despite the complexities of her case, she has been ‘fast tracked’ for a decision and faces potential deportation in a matter of days.
The so-called ‘Fast Track’ system allows asylum claims to be processed within 2 weeks, but has come under extensive criticism from migrant rights groups who claim it is heavily biased against the claimant. Less than 1% of fast track claims are successful. (more…)

Rotterdam: Van Omme & De Groot construction contractors attacked during No Border camp (Holland)
Sunday, August 18th, 2013
On 10th August under cover of darkness we targeted the construction contractors Van Omme & De Groot for their involvement in the building of Rotterdam detention centre. The slogan ‘Fuck Deportation!’ was sprayed upon the shutters covering the windows and paint bombs filled with generous amounts of bright paint were thrown, ruining the ever so posh wooden door of the arrogant planners of incarceration. This action was an autonomous action taken upon by ourselves separate from the planned No Borders camp during the same week.
It is one thing to shout “no borders, no nations, stop deportation” but an entirely more effective act to physically attack those who make such a hell for migrants exist. We are also aware that our action alone will not bring an end to the detention/deportation profiteers, but it is a retaliation against those involved in such torturous places that think they can operate with impunity. Our action is in solidarity with all those dwelling in detention centres in fortress Europe, be it Rotterdam, Calais, UK, Italy or Greece. You are never forgotten. To those who make such places of violence possible, you are not forgotten either, we know of you and what you do.

Another sad story – G4S and Jimmy Mubenga (UK)
Saturday, July 13th, 2013
Another sad story, one that passes from time to time on the liberal media; a migrant is killed during deportation. Did this one starve themselves, sew their lips together, swallow razor blades in some private detention centre hell? No, Jimmy Mubenga was killed by three G4S security guards on a plane full of people during an episode of ‘legal restraint techniques’ that they inflicted upon him until he died. The Criminal Prosecution Service (CPS) decided not to prosecute the murder.
“Please, please, they are killing me.” cried Mubenga repeatedly to the passengers on the plane. Jimmy had a wife and a family that the UK Border Agency had snatched him from earlier. They would never see him again. And on the plane, the people saw him murdered by those “just doing their job”, and didn’t do anything about it. Now it’s more grief, as if death weren’t enough: the “inquest” of “British justice” rubber-stamps the approved killing and serves more white justice to black faces. (more…)

Welcome to Britain
Saturday, July 13th, 2013
Britain, like any other country of the western world, is a huge prison for thousands and thousands of people who come here in search of a better life, the so-called ‘asylum seekers’. It’s not by chance that so many desperate people try to enter the U.K. as well as the other rich countries. They can’t do otherwise. In their homeland not even the basic conditions of surviving are left.
The globalisation of capital requires the maximum production at the lowest cost. That’s how the bosses move the centres of production from one country to the other searching for the cheapest labour cost. And that’s also the way they spread poverty and desolation and rob millions and millions of their resources. When the occasion occurs, the bosses and their armed mercenaries invade other countries to steal their oil or in order to keep some geopolitical context in equilibrium. (more…)

Hunger and thirst strikes in immigration detention centres in the Netherlands

CALL FOR SOLIDARITY WITH HUNGER AND THIRST STRIKERS IN DETENTION CENTERS IN THE NETHERLANDS
About 60 asylum seekers in detention center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, have been in hunger strike for four days now. 18 of them also stopped drinking since Wednesday 6th of May. They are protesting against the asylum policy that criminalizes refugees: they get thrown out on the streets without money or shelter and they get detained in prisons for up to 18 months. The refugees on hunger strike demand not to be treated as criminals anymore. They clearly stated they want freedom and protection. (more…)
