Devon Allman

Devon Allman (born August 10, 1972) is a vocalist, guitarist, keyboard player and songwriter. He is the founder and bandleader of Honeytribe, (also known as Devon Allman's Honeytribe). In addition to creating two albums and leading multiple tours across North America and Europe with Honeytribe, Devon has contributed to several other musical recordings, including Vargas Blues Band and the A Song for My Father compilation album. Devon has appeared occasionally as a guest musician for Gregg Allman and The Allman Brothers Band. His other musical projects include the blues-rock supergroup Royal Southern Brotherhood and his first solo album "Turquoise" that was released in February 2013. After leaving Royal Southern Brotherhood the next year, he released "Ragged & Dirty" with The Devon Allman Band.

Early years

Devon is the son of Gregg Allman (of The Allman Brothers Band) and Shelley Kay Jefts. His parents divorced when he was an infant, and he grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, as well as Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri, raised by his mother in a typical suburban American household.

Honeytribe is an American blues rock band formed in Saint Louis, Missouri. The founder and bandleader is Devon Allman, son of Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band, who is the lead guitarist, vocalist, and frontman. The other members are George Potsos on bass, and Gabriel Strange on drums In October 2012, Allman confirmed that Honeytribe was going on hiatus, while he continues to tour with Royal Southern Brotherhood and prepares for a tour to support his new solo album.

History

Honeytribe was formed by Devon Allman in 1999. In 2001, the band broke up so Allman could spend time with his newly born son. They reformed in 2005 and started Honeytribe's path as a career: making records and touring. They have toured throughout North America and Europe

Origin of Band Name

The name of the band is attributed to former member Marko (Mark Oyarzabal). According to Devon, one day the two of them were driving, and trying to think of names. They discussed how their dynamic sound could be super smooth and delicate, and also big, bad and fierce, and that they needed a name to reflect that dichotomy. Marko's first idea was "Honeytribe?", and Devon agreed with "Yeah! Sweet like honey, fierce like a tribe, it's perfect!"

Devon (/ˈdɛvən/; archaically known as Devonshire) is a county of England, reaching from the Bristol Channel in the north to the English Channel in the south. It is part of South West England, bounded by Cornwall to the west, Somerset to the northeast, and Dorset to the east. Devon derives its name from Dumnonia, which, during the British Iron Age, Roman Britain, and Early Medieval was the homeland of the Dumnonii Brittonic Celts. The Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain resulted in the partial assimilation of Dumnonia into the Kingdom of Wessex during the eighth and ninth centuries. The western boundary with Cornwall was set at the River Tamar by King Æthelstan in 936. Devon was constituted as a shire of the Kingdom of England thereafter.

Music

Bring Me Down (You Don't)

"Bring Me Down (You Don't)" is a song by British rock band Love Amongst Ruin, written by singer and guitarist Steve Hewitt. The song has frequently been performed live by the band.

Background

The music for "Bring Me Down (You Don't)" is taken from the song "Bel Air", by krautrock band Can. The song was recorded along with the rest of the band's debut album in 2007 and 2008. Steve Hewitt said of the writing process, "I used the music from a band called Can and I put my own lyrics to it and rearranged it". He later had to submit the song to Can's publishers and it was not approved for release. As a result of the rejection, the song was replaced on the album with "Come On Say It".

Release

An acoustic version of the song was given away by the band as a free download on SoundCloud on 8 November 2011, in advance of the release of "Acoustic".
