Sūrat al-Shams (Arabic: الشمس aš-Šams, The Sun) is the 91st sura of the Qur'an with 15 ayat. It opens with a series of solemn oaths sworn on various astronomical phenomena, the first of which, "by the sun", gives the sura its name, then on the human soul itself. It then describes the fate of Thamud, a formerly prosperous extinct Arab tribe. The prophet Saleh urged them to worship God alone, and commanded them in God's name to preserve a certain she-camel; they disobeyed and continued to reject his message, and God destroyed them all except those who had followed Salih.

Ali Jaber, born Ali Ibn Abdullah Ibn Ali Jaber, was an eminent reciter from Saudi Arabia. He was born in Jeddah in 1373 Hijri. While he was five, Ali moved with his parents to Madinah where he had memorized the Holy Qur'an at the age of 15.
In 1396 HIjri, Ali Jaber joined the Sharia's Faculty of the Islamic University and graduated in 1365. Fresh out, he enrolled in the High Institute of Magistracy and prepared a thesis he supported in 1400. His research was carried out in the "Abullah Ibn Omar's Fiqh and its impact on the Madinah's School". Graduated with honors, Ali Jaber was proposed to be judge in Mayssane but he preferred the position of Adminstrative Inspector and shortly became professor of Arab Language and Islamic studies in the Education Faculty of Madinah Monawara relevant to King Fahd Abdul Aziz University.
Later on, Ali Jaber, who was imam and reciter in many Saudi mosque, was nominated Imam of the private mosque of the late King Khalid Ibn Abdul Aziz. While the Custodian of the two holy mosques moved to Jeddah, Ali Jaber was nominated Imam of the Holy mosque of Makkah. In 1403, Ali Jaber asked to be exempted from his functions of imam and took them back to lead evening-prayers in Ramadan's and then as an official imam of the Holy Mosque in the same year he got his doctorate certificate in 1407 Hijri.

It is typically assumed that this sura is referring to the early days of Muhammad's prophethood, when he would have been unsure about how his people would receive him. Because of subject matter, length, style, and placement in the Qur'an, this sura is often coupled with Sura ad-Dhuha. They are generally considered to have been revealed around the same time.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali, CBE, FRSL (14 April 1872 – 10 December 1953) was an Indian Islamic scholar who translated the Qur'an into English. His translation of the Qur'an is one of the most widely-known and used in the English-speaking world.
Ali was born in Bombay, India in British India to a wealthy merchant family with a Siddiqui Bohera father. As a child, Ali received a religious education and, eventually, could recite the entire Qur'an from memory. He spoke both Arabic and English fluently. He studied English literature and studied at several European universities, including the University of Leeds. He concentrated his efforts on the Qur'an and studied the Qur'anic commentaries beginning with those written in the early days of Islamic history. Yusuf Ali's best-known work is his book The Holy Qur'an: Text, Translation and Commentary, begun in 1934 and published in 1938 by Sh. Muhammad Ashraf Publishers in Lahore, India (later Pakistan). While on tour to promote his translation, Ali helped to open the Al-Rashid Mosque, the third mosque in North America, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in December 1938.

Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (Arabic: علي بن أﺑﻲ طالب, Transliteration: ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, [ʕaliː ibn ʔæbiː t̪ˤɑːlib]; 13thRajab, 24 BH–21stRamaḍān, 40 AH; approximately October 23, 598 or 600 or March 17, 599 – January 27, 661). The son of Abu Talib, Ali was also the cousin and son-in-law of Islamic prophet Muhammad, ruling over the Islamic Caliphate from 656 to 661, and was the first male convert to Islam.Sunnis consider Ali the fourth and final of the Rashidun (rightly guided Caliphs), while Shias regard Ali as the first Imam and consider him and his descendants the rightful successors to Muhammad, all of which are members of the Ahl al-Bayt, the household of Muhammad. This disagreement split the Ummah (Muslim community) into the Sunni and Shia branches.
Muslim sources, especially Shia ones, state that since Muhammad's time, Ali was the only person born in the Kaaba sanctuary in Mecca, the holiest place in Islam. His father was Abu Talib and his mother was Fatima bint Asad, but he was raised in the household of Muhammad, who himself was raised by Abu Talib, Muhammad's uncle, and Ali's father. When Muhammad reported receiving a divine revelation, Ali was the first male to accept his message, dedicating his life to the cause of Islam.

Sheikh Ali Jaber, (Arabic:علي جابر), born Ali ibn Abdullah ibn Ali Jabber (Arabic: علي بن عبدالله بن علي جابر), was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1951 or 1952. He was Imam at the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and considered as one the best reciters in the world. He also has the honor of first ever Ph.D. Imam of Masjid Al Haraam.
In 1956, when Jaber was 5, he moved to Medina, where he memorized the Qur'an, finishing in 1971, at the age of 14 or 15. In 1976, Jaber joined the Sharia Faculty of the Islamic University and graduated in 1986.
He enrolled in the High Institute of Magistracy and prepared a thesis he supported in 1980. His research was carried out on the topic "Abullah Ibn Omar's fiqh and its impact on the Medina School". He graduated with honors, and was proposed to be judge in Mayssane, but he preferred the position of Administrative Inspector. He soon became an Arabic language teacher and professor of Islamic studies in the Education Faculty of Medina, affiliated with King Abdulaziz University.

Ali Jaber, born Ali Ibn Abdullah Ibn Ali Jaber, was an eminent reciter from Saudi Arabia. He was born in Jeddah in 1373 Hijri. While he was five, Ali moved with his parents to Madinah where he had memorized the Holy Qur'an at the age of 15. In 1396 HIjri, Ali Jaber joined the Sharia's Faculty of the Islamic University and graduated in 1365. Fresh out, he enrolled in the High Institute of Magistracy and prepared a thesis he supported in 1400. His research was carried out in the "Abullah Ibn Omar's Fiqh and its impact on the Madinah's School". Graduated with honors, Ali Jaber was proposed to be judge in Mayssane but he preferred the position of Adminstrative Inspector and shortly became professor of Arab Language and Islamic studies in the Education Faculty of Madinah Monawara relevant to King Fahd Abdul Aziz University. Later on, Ali Jaber, who was imam and reciter in many Saudi mosque, was nominated Imam of the private mosque of the late King Khalid Ibn Abdul Aziz. While the Custodian of the two holy mosques moved to Jeddah, Ali Jaber was nominated Imam of the Holy mosque of Makkah. In 1403, Ali Jaber asked to be exempted from his functions of imam and took them back to lead evening-prayers in Ramadan's and then as an official imam of the Holy Mosque in the same year he got his doctorate certificate in 1407 Hijri. -

Mankind often hides things from each other and from themselves as well. The sura reminds us that Allah knows the things that are declared and things that lie hidden. The final verse of this Sura affirms that a similar message was also revealed to Abraham and Moses in their scriptures.[1] Surat Al-A'lā is among the most recited suras in the Jummah and Witr prayers.

Too bad I missed the first part of his explanation of the verse (my apologies). Many people miss interpret Qur'an surrah An Nisaa' (4) verse 33. The rough meaning of the verse as translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali: "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. ISBN-10: 1590080254 ISBN-13: 978-1590080252 I have read many positive feedbacks about this book thats why i recommend it to non muslims who cant read arabic to read and understand what Islam is all about. -

Ali Jaber, born Ali Ibn Abdullah Ibn Ali Jaber, was an eminent reciter from Saudi Arabia. He was born in Jeddah in 1373 Hijri. While he was five, Ali moved with his parents to Madinah where he had memorized the Holy Qur'an at the age of 15.
In 1396 HIjri, Ali Jaber joined the Sharia's Faculty of the Islamic University and graduated in 1365. Fresh out, he enrolled in the High Institute of Magistracy and prepared a thesis he supported in 1400. His research was carried out in the "Abullah Ibn Omar's Fiqh and its impact on the Madinah's School". Graduated with honors, Ali Jaber was proposed to be judge in Mayssane but he preferred the position of Adminstrative Inspector and shortly became professor of Arab Language and Islamic studies in the Education Faculty of Madinah Monawara relevant to King Fahd Abdul Aziz University.
Later on, Ali Jaber, who was imam and reciter in many Saudi mosque, was nominated Imam of the private mosque of the late King Khalid Ibn Abdul Aziz. While the Custodian of the two holy mosques moved to Jeddah, Ali Jaber was nominated Imam of the Holy mosque of Makkah. In 1403, Ali Jaber asked to be exempted from his functions of imam and took them back to lead evening-prayers in Ramadan's and then as an official imam of the Holy Mosque in the same year he got his doctorate certificate in 1407 Hijri.

The rough meaning of the verse as translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali: "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their, beds (and last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance): for Allah is Most High, Great (above you all)."

4. Do they not think that they will be called to account?
5. On a Mighty Day,
6. A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds?
7. Day! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin.
8. And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is?
9. (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed.
10. Woe, that Day, to those that deny
11. Those that deny the Day of Judgment.
12. And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner!
13. When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!"
14. By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do!
15. Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled.
16. Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell.

Thiruvananthapuram Doordarshan's interview (part 1 of 6) of Padma Shri.Yusuffali. Sharing the experience of first journey to Abu Dhabi. Produced & telecast by Doordarshan on July 24, 2011. Yusuffali is a Non-resident Indian businessman hailing from Nattika in Thrissur district of Kerala. He is the Managing Director of Abu Dhabi-headquartered EMKE Group of Companies which owns the Lulu Hypermarket chain in Middle East.
Yusuf Ali was born on November 15, 1955. He completed his schooling from Nattika and moved to Ahmedabad in Gujarat where he did his diploma in Business Management & Administration. After the studies he left India in 1973 to Abu Dhabi where his paternal uncle, MK Abdullah, the Chairman and the founder of the EMKE Group of Companies is doing business. He developed the import and wholesale distribution of the group and ventured in to supermarket business by launching Lulu Hypermarket. He started his first Lulu Hypermarket in 1990s in Abu Dhabi just when the Gulf War was breaking out.
Ali is a member of Central Wakf Council of the Government of India; Chairman of MES Medical College; Director of Cochin International Airport Limited; Vice-chairman of Roots-NRK Development Initiative; Chairman of Lakeshore Hospital & Research Centre, Kochi and an independent director of the Air India.In March 2013, Forbes Magazine's latest annual tally of billionaires has listed Yousuf Ali in 974 position with a net worth of $1.5 billion (Rs 8,100 crore). Ali is married to Shabira and has three daughters, Shabeena, Shafeena and Shifa.

Neither Friends nor Allies
The Qur'an firmly prohibits Muslim friendship and alliance with a Jewish-Christian alliance. Yet around the world of Islam today most governments violate that divine prohibition. They, their supporters and followers, pay a price for such conduct. They lose their Islam and become, instead, part of the Euro-Jewish/Euro-Christian alliance that is waging war on Islam. It is the first such alliance ever to have emerged in history, and it wages that war on behalf of the Euro-Jewish State of Israel. Both the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him) have provided information that makes it possible for us to locate Gog and Magog within the ranks of those two actors, i.e., Euro-Christians and Euro-Jews, who wage that war on Islam.
Suriname's Shaikh Ali Mustafa and I climbed a hill in Morvant (in my native Caribbean island of Trinidad) to the top where a Christian Church was located, and we then sat down to catch our breath (mine more than his) and to eventually participate in what we expected to be a friendly Christian-Muslim exchange of views.
The false and vicious attack on the Qur'an and on the person of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), to which we were subjected, was hardly friendly. It was indeed shocking and manifestly sinful. However, we quickly located the source of that distinctly un-Christian behaviour in the 'war on Islam' that the Gog and Magog ruling alliance was waging around the world. We also understood the motive for that strange behavior in their frantic need to contain the spread of Islam among the poor in the hills of Laventille and Morvant.
"Friendship between Christians and Muslims is prohibited by the Qur'an itself", thundered the Christian speaker to ringing applause from his congregation. He was, of course, depending on an English translation of a verse of the Qur'an that has often been misunderstood. Here is the verse as translated by this writer:
"Oh you who believe (in this Qur'an), do not take (such) Jews and Christians as friends and allies who themselves are friends and allies of each other. And whoever of you (Muslims) turn to them (with friendship and alliance) becomes, verily, one of them; behold, Allah does not guide such evildoers."
(Qur'an, al-Maidah, 5:51)
At the time of the revelation of the Qur'an, and for more than a thousand years thereafter, Christians and Jews were locked in a relationship of such mutual hatred that it was impossible to conceive of a future Christian-Jewish reconciliation, friendship and mutual alliance. After all, the Gospel itself had recorded the exclusive Jewish role in the demand for Christ's crucifixion, in addition to the fact that the Roman government had opposed it (John, 19:4-7).
Christianity consistently, and quite correctly, blamed the Jews for demanding that crucifixion. It created eternal hostility between the two religious communities.
However, this extraordinary verse of the Qur'an actually anticipated a time when the world would witness a strange and mysterious reconciliation between these two foes, and the emergence of a Judeo-Christian alliance. It is only in the modern age, when Gog and Magog have attacked Euro-Christianity and Euro-Judaism and have transformed Europe into an essentially godless secular society where men can legally marry men, that the world has witnessed the amazing fulfillment of the divine prophecy in this verse of the Qur'an (See chapter on Gog and Magog in 'Jerusalem in the Qur'an').
It should be clear that the Qur'an has prohibited Muslims from maintaining friendly ties with only that Judeo-Christian alliance and not with all Christians and all Jews. The Qur'an has also warned those Muslims who established ties of friendship with that Judeo-Christian alliance that is now ruling the world, that Allah Most High would recognize them to be members of that alliance (rather than the Muslim community), and would thus consider such conduct the ultimate betrayal of Islam.
OTHER TRANSLATIONS OF THE VERSE
In his widely-read English translation of the Qur'an, Abdullah Yusuf Ali ranslates verse 51 of Surah al-Maidah as follows:
"O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust."
Muhammad Asad, who is a highly respected European Muslim translator of the Qur'an and a distinguished scholar of Islam, translated the verse in this way: ..

The water cooler was very much needed. Many passengers who stop and wait for the bus or rikshaw will really be happy with this water cooler. Specially when the temp. in the summer can be as high as 50 degrees.
The phrase fi sabilillah (في سبيل الله fī sabīli llāhi) is an Arabic expression meaning "in the cause of Allah".
The phrase is found frequently in the Qur'an, e.g. in surah 9, verse 60:
إِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَالْعَامِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَالْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِي الرِّقَابِ وَالْغَارِمِينَ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَاِبْنِ السَّبِيلِ فَرِيضَةً مِنَ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
"Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer the (funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to Truth); for those in bondage and in debt; in the cause of Allah; and for the wayfarer: (thus is it) ordained by Allah, and Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom." Biography of Shaykh Abdullah bin Bayyah:
Shaykh Abdullah bin Bayyah is one of Islam's greatest living jurist. An extremely well-known and well-respected scholar, he is considered a "scholars' scholar" since many of his students are actually considered ulama in their own right. Shaykh Abdullah grew up in one of the eastern provinces of the West African nation of Mauritania. From a very young age, he showed extreme gifts intellectually and a profound ability to absorb a lot of information and a lot of the text. During his studies, he memorised an extraordinary number of texts. Then, at a very early age, he was appointed with a group of people to study legal judgements in Tunis and went there for a period of time. When he returned to Mauritania, he became a minister of education and later, a minister of justice. He was also one of the vice-presidents of the first president of Mauritania. However, due to the conditions in Mauritania and the military change of governments that took place, he began to teach, and he ended up going to Saudi Arabia and becoming a distinguished professor at The University of Usul al-Fiqh.
The shaykh is presently involved in several organizations in the Muslim world, such as the organisation which is known as Al Majma' al-Fiqhi, which is comprised of a body of scholars that come together from all over the Muslim world and from all the different madhhabs and different viewpoints; they analyze and study a lot of the modern issues to come up with Islamic solutions to the issues confronting modern Muslims in the modern world. Shaykh Abdullah is also involved in writing. He has written several books and has delivered lectures all over the world. He has expertise in a lot of areas that have been unfortunately ignored by the vast amount of contemporary scholars. One of the areas of expertise that he has is in what is known as fiqh al-aqaliyaat which is the fiqh or juristic rulings related to Muslims living as a religious minority with a dominant alien territory. Because the Muslims tended to prefer hijra to countries where Muslims were the majority, there are not a lot of scholars that work in the area of dealing with how Muslims in minority areas should actually live their lives and how they should behave when confronted with issues that often are in contradistinction to their deen.

Ali Jaber, born Ali Ibn Abdullah Ibn Ali Jaber, was an eminent reciter from Saudi Arabia. He was born in Jeddah in 1373 Hijri. While he was five, Ali moved with his parents to Madinah where he had memorized the Holy Qur'an at the age of 15.
In 1396 HIjri, Ali Jaber joined the Sharia's Faculty of the Islamic University and graduated in 1365. Fresh out, he enrolled in the High Institute of Magistracy and prepared a thesis he supported in 1400. His research was carried out in the "Abullah Ibn Omar's Fiqh and its impact on the Madinah's School". Graduated with honors, Ali Jaber was proposed to be judge in Mayssane but he preferred the position of Adminstrative Inspector and shortly became professor of Arab Language and Islamic studies in the Education Faculty of Madinah Monawara relevant to King Fahd Abdul Aziz University.
Later on, Ali Jaber, who was imam and reciter in many Saudi mosque, was nominated Imam of the private mosque of the late King Khalid Ibn Abdul Aziz. While the Custodian of the two holy mosques moved to Jeddah, Ali Jaber was nominated Imam of the Holy mosque of Makkah. In 1403, Ali Jaber asked to be exempted from his functions of imam and took them back to lead evening-prayers in Ramadan's and then as an official imam of the Holy Mosque in the same year he got his doctorate certificate in 1407 Hijri.
Ali Jaber died in 1426 Hijri in Jeddah.

The very first verse in Quran reads, "1.2 (Asad) All praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds (that exist)," and the very last chapter opens with this line, "114.1 (Ali) Say ... Dr ... I recommend the translations by Muhammad Asad, Abdullah Yusuf Ali and Marmaduke Pickthall, they are not perfect but by far the best ...
