Mount Tambora (or Tamboro) is an active stratovolcano on the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia. Sumbawa is flanked both to the north and south by oceanic crust, and Tambora was formed by the active subduction zone beneath it. This raised Mount Tambora as high as 4,300 m (14,100 ft), making it, in the 18th century, one of the tallest peaks in the Indonesian archipelago. After a large magma chamber inside the mountain filled over the course of several decades, volcanic activity reached a historic climax in the eruption of 10 April 1815. This eruption was approximately VEI-7, the only eruption unambiguously confirmed of that size since the Lake Taupo eruption in about 180 CE. (The Heaven Lake eruption of Baekdu Mountain in c. 969 CE may have also been VEI-7.)
With an estimated ejecta volume of 160 km3 (38 cu mi), Tambora's 1815 outburst was the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history. The explosion was heard on Sumatra island more than 2,000 km (1,200 mi) away. Heavy volcanic ash falls were observed as far away as Borneo, Sulawesi, Java and Maluku islands. Most deaths from the eruption were from starvation and disease, as the eruptive fallout ruined agricultural productivity in the local region. The death toll was at least 71,000 people, of whom 11,000--12,000 were killed directly by the eruption;[6] the often-cited figure of 92,000 people killed is believed to be overestimated.
The eruption caused global climate anomalies that included the phenomenon known as "volcanic winter": 1816 became known as the "Year Without a Summer" because of the effect on North American and European weather. Crops failed and livestock died in much of the Northern Hemisphere, resulting in the worst famine of the 19th century.
During an excavation in 2004, a team of archaeologists discovered cultural remains buried by the 1815 eruption. They were kept intact beneath the 3 m (9.8 ft) deep pyroclastic deposits. At the site, dubbed the Pompeii of the East, the artifacts were preserved in the positions they had occupied in 1815.

Bringing the history of this planetary emergency grippingly to life, Gillen D’arcy Wood sheds light on the fragile interdependence of climate and human societies and the threat a new global era of extreme weather poses to us all.
Gillen D’arcy Wood is a professor of English and director of the Sustainability Studies Initiative in the Humanities at the University of Illinois–Urbana-Champaign. Wood is the author of two books on Romanticism, the Shock of the Real: Romanticism and Visual Culture, 1760–1860 and Romanticism and Music Culture in Britain, 1770–1840: Virtue and Virtuosity, and a historical novel, Hosack’s Folly, about yellow fever in 1820s New York. His new book Tambora: The Eruption that Changed the World has received significant critical and media attention and has been reviewed by major publications, including the Wall Street Journal, the New Yorker, the Economist, and the Times, among others.

During the explosion ash and aerosols were released to the atmosphere to heights of more than 30 km (98,000 ft) where they were spread around the Earth and stayed up to a few years. As a consequence, climate anomalies - mostly cooling - occurred on a global scale leading to a failure of agricultural crops and thus famine and riots. Several ten-thousand people died of starvation in the aftermath of the eruption. The animation shows global surface temperature anomalies in the years following the eruption.

When Indonesia’s Mount Tambora erupted in 1815, it unleashed the most destructive wave of extreme weather the world has witnessed in thousands of years. Bringing the history of this planetary emergency grippingly to life, Gillen D’arcy Wood sheds light on the fragile interdependence of climate and human societies and the threat a new global era of extreme weather poses to us all.

During the explosion ash and aerosols were released to the atmosphere to heights of more than 30 km (98,000 ft) where they were spread around the Earth and stayed up to a few years. As a consequence, climate anomalies - mostly cooling - occurred on a global scale leading to a failure of agricultural crops and thus famine and riots. Several ten-thousand people died of starvation in the aftermath of the eruption. The animation shows global surface temperature anomalies in the years following the eruption.

Mount Tambora (or Tamboro) is an active stratovolcano which is a peninsula of the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. Sumbawa is flanked both to the north and south by oceanic crust, and Tambora was formed by the active subduction zone beneath it. This raised Mount Tambora as high as 4,300 m (14,100 ft),[4] making it one of the tallest peaks in the Indonesian archipelago in the 18th century. After a large magma chamber inside the mountain filled over the course of several decades, volcanic activity reached a historic climax in the eruption of 10 April 1815.[5] This eruption was about a volcanic explosivity index (VEI) of 7, the only unambiguously confirmed VEI-7 eruption since the Lake Taupo eruption in about AD 180.[6] (The Heaven Lake eruption of Baekdu Mountain around AD 969 might have also have been VEI-7.) Pantai Sopanda merupakan teluk yang diapit dua buah tanjung yakni Tanjung Jaga di bagian barat dan Tanjung Branti di sebelah timur yang terletak di desa Nanga Miro Kecamatan Pekat Kabupaten Dompu Nusa Tenggara Barat.
Dari atas bukit kecil di So Panda dengan menghadap ke arah laut sekitar 1 km kita bisa melihat dari kejauhan Pulau Satonda dengan jarak tempuh sekitar 20 menit perjalanan menggunakan boat nelayan yang ada disekitar.
Keindahan alamnya dengan pasir putih dan air lautnya yang masih jernih dan jarang sekali terkontaminasi oleh masyarakat serta pemandangan bawah air sangat bagus untuk berkegiatan snorkelling atau menyelam. Pemandangan bawah air seperti daerah terumbu karang dengan bentuknya yang beraneka ragam, ikan-ikan berwarna-warni indah yang berenang di sela-sela karang seolah-olah membawa kita ke dunia lain.
Sekitar 100 meter dari bibir pantai terdapat tebing terjal yang terbentuk dari terumbu karang dan berbagai jenis biota laut termasuk fosil kima raksasa yang dalam bahasa latin disebut "Trydaena" yang diduga berumur ribuan bahkan jutaan tahun. fosil tersebut bercampur dengan biota lainnya seperti terumbu karang dan rumput laut.
Dibeberapa bagian tebing lainya juga terdapat goa kecil dengan kedalaman sekitar 2 meter dan ketinggian 1,5 meter. Goa kecil ini memeiliki banyak warna dan bentuk goa yang terbentuk dari batu karang.
Lokasi ini menurut perlu dilestarikan, dijaga, tidak dikomersilkan sebagai tempat pariwisata namun hanya dijadikan sebagai tempat riset/penelitian terkait terumbu karang, biota laut, fosil karena lokasi ini mungkin satu-satunya yang terdapat di NTB.

Gunung Tambora (atau Tomboro) adalah sebuah stratovolcano aktif yang terletak di pulau Sumbawa, Indonesia. Gunung ini terletak di dua kabupaten, yaitu Kabupaten Dompu (sebagian kaki sisi selatan sampai barat laut, dan Kabupaten Bima (bagian lereng sisi selatan hingga barat laut, dan kaki hingga puncak sisi timur hingga utara), Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat, tepatnya pada 8°15' LS dan 118° BT. Gunung ini terletak baik di sisi utara dan selatan kerak oseanik. Tambora terbentuk oleh zona subduksi di bawahnya. Hal ini meningkatkan ketinggian Tambora sampai 4.300 m yang membuat gunung ini pernah menjadi salah satu puncak tertinggi di Nusantara dan mengeringkan dapur magma besar di dalam gunung ini. Perlu waktu seabad untuk mengisi kembali dapur magma tersebut.
Aktivitas vulkanik gunung berapi ini mencapai puncaknya pada bulan April tahun 1815 ketika meletus dalam skala tujuh pada Volcanic Explosivity Index. Letusan tersebut menjadi letusan tebesar sejak letusan danau Taupo pada tahun 181. Letusan gunung ini terdengar hingga pulau Sumatra (lebih dari 2.000 km). Abu vulkanik jatuh di Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Jawa dan Maluku. Letusan gunung ini menyebabkan kematian hingga tidak kurang dari 71.000 orang dengan 11.000—12.000 di antaranya terbunuh secara langsung akibat dari letusan tersebut.[4] Bahkan beberapa peneliti memperkirakan sampai 92.000 orang terbunuh, tetapi angka ini diragukan karena berdasarkan atas perkiraan yang terlalu tinggi. Lebih dari itu, letusan gunung ini menyebabkan perubahan iklim dunia. Satu tahun berikutnya (1816) sering disebut sebagai Tahun tanpa musim panas karena perubahan drastis dari cuaca Amerika Utara dan Eropa karena debu yang dihasilkan dari letusan Tambora ini. Akibat perubahan iklim yang drastis ini banyak panen yang gagal dan kematian ternak di Belahan Utara yang menyebabkan terjadinya kelaparan terburuk pada abad ke-19.
Selama penggalian arkeologi tahun 2004, tim arkeolog menemukan sisa kebudayaan yang terkubur oleh letusan tahun 1815 di kedalaman 3 meter pada endapan piroklastik. Artifak-artifak tersebut ditemukan pada posisi yang sama ketika terjadi letusan pada tahun 1815. Karena ciri-ciri yang serupa inilah, temuan tersebut sering disebut sebagai Pompeii dari timur.

During archaeological excavations in 2004, a team of archaeologists found the remains of culture buried by the eruption of 1815 at a depth of 3 meters in pyroclastic deposits. Artifacts were found in the same position when the eruption occurred in 1815. Because of the characteristics of this similar, these findings are often referred to as the Pompeii of the east.

untuk melakukan pendakian gunung Tambora.
TAMBORA MENYAPA DUNIA.! Event yang sedang
ada disana & banyak pendaki yang ada disana.
Dari dusun Pancasila, tim naik ojek menuju ke pintu Rimba.
Pintu awal untuk masuk ke titik awal pendakian.
Ya, Pendakian pun dimulai, bertemu dengan pendaki lain.
Saling bersapa & bercakap ria.
Harus melewati 5 pos agar sampai puncak Tambora.
Tim bermalam di pos 3, pukul 2 pagi pendakian dilanjutkan.
Setelah sampai di Kaldera gn Tambora lgsg ke puncaknya.
Akhirnya sampai di puncak Tambora 2851 mdpl.
Setelah puas disana, Trip dilanjutkan ke air terjun Mata Jitu
yang berada di Pulau Moyo, air terjun yang pernah didatengi
oleh Lady Diana, Mc. Jagger, Edwin Van Der Sar & juga
petenis cantik Maria Sharapova, wow...
Setelah puas menikmati air terjun, Trip dilanjutkan ke
Pulau Satonda untuk melihat danau Satonda.
& Trip berakhir disini dan SEMUANYA...

MTMA hari ini, The Adventure of @dionwiyoko
Tim MTMA kali ini berada di Sumbawa, NTB
Dimulai dari kota Bima menuju dusun Pancasila
untuk melakukan pendakian gunung Tambora.
TAMBORA MENYAPA DUNIA.! Event yang sedang
ada disana & banyak pendaki yang ada disana.
Dari dusun Pancasila, tim naik ojek menuju ke pintu Rimba.
Pintu awal untuk masuk ke titik awal pendakian.
Ya, Pendakian pun dimulai, bertemu dengan pendaki lain.
Saling bersapa & bercakap ria.
Harus melewati 5 pos agar sampai puncak Tambora.
Tim bermalam di pos 3, pukul 2 pagi pendakian dilanjutkan.
Setelah sampai di Kaldera gn Tambora lgsg ke puncaknya.
Akhirnya sampai di puncak Tambora 2851 mdpl.
Setelah puas disana, Trip dilanjutkan ke air terjun Mata Jitu
yang berada di Pulau Moyo, air terjun yang pernah didatengi
oleh Lady Diana, Mc. Jagger, Edwin Van Der Sar & juga
petenis cantik Maria Sharapova, wow...
Setelah puas menikmati air terjun, Trip dilanjutkan ke
Pulau Satonda untuk melihat danau Satonda.
& Trip berakhir disini dan SEMUANYA...

Cette année-là, ils sont des centaines de milliers à mourir de faim.
Quelle a été la cause d’un des plus grands bouleversements climatiques de l’histoire humaine? L’éruption d’un volcan ! Mais une éruption d’une telle violence que les schémas climatiques connus du monde ont tout simplement disparus.
Un été sans soleil retrace l’histoire du Mont Tambora, un volcan en Indonésie, dont l’éruption de 1815, longtemps ignorée puis considérée comme la plus grande explosion volcanique de tous les temps, tua plus de cent mille personnes en quelques secondes et bouleversa, un an plus tard, l’équilibre du monde.

Namun dengan pemilihan anggota tim, pengaturan peralatan, penentuan strategi pendakian dan kerjasama tim yang baik, sisi selatan Annapurna akhirnya bisa diatasi. Dougal Haston dan Don Whillans berhasil mencapai puncak Annapurna pada 27 Mei 1970. Sementara sisi Barat Daya Everest sukses dilewati pada 1975 setelah sempat mengalami kegagalan pada 1972 akibat cuaca buruk. Docudrama about the gripping story and events leading up to the cataclysmic eruption of the volcano Krakatoa in 1883.
On 27th August 1883 the uninhabited island of Krakatoa blew itself out of existence with an explosion the equivalent power of 150 million tonnes of TNT. The eruption was so loud that the sound was heard over a twelfth of the Earth’s surface, the shockwaves reverberated around the entire planet, seven times. This explosion also caused giant tsunami, the largest of them twice the height of those of 2004. These enormous waves wiped out 165 Indonesian towns and villages killing over 36,000 people. Within hours news of the disaster was transmitted around the globe, and scientists of the time struggled to comprehend the geological forces that caused the tragedy.
Indonesia has so many volcanoes and earthquakes because of its geographical position. The archipelago that starts in Northern Sumatra stretches over 3,000 miles south. It has been created by the forces where two of the tectonic plates that make up the Earth’s surface, meet. The ocean floor of the Indo-Australian Plate and the Asian landmass of the Burma Plate are in collision. As they push against each other the heavier ocean floor is forced underneath the lighter continental rock. Krakatoa lies directly above this subduction zone.
This film reconstructs the true stories of survivors from their accounts and diaries, to piece together what happened in the months leading up to the most famous eruption of all time.

These things happen, you can look at the earth and see the scars. They happen, and they're going to happen again.
A million times more powerful than Hiroshima, super volcanoes are real events. Over 20 have been recorded in the history of the earth and over half of these happened in the USA. For the last 30 years scientists have been investigating where the next super volcano could erupt. Their research has revealed that an active super volcano exists under Yellowstone National Park. Naked Science follows these scientists and investigates the vital question, if the Yellowstone Caldera erupted today, could we survive? This documentary includes a Yellowstone timeline of past eruptions, how Yellowstone would affect the world, and what impact will it be for the United States.

The 1755 Lisbon earthquake was a seismic event that occurred in the city of Lisbon on 1 November 1755. The earthquake was caused by disturbing the mechanism of a First Civilization Temple situated under the Carmo Convent. It was triggered by the Assassin Shay Cormac, who was tasked by Achilles Davenport, the Mentor of the Colonial Assassins, to retrieve the Piece of Eden which was supposedly located within in the Temple.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, thousands of people lost their lives and homes, Lisbon was nearly entirely levelled, and Shay blamed himself and Achilles for the tragedy. Convinced that other cities would meet the same fate as Lisbon and Haiti if the Assassins were allowed to continue their search for First Civilization sites, Shay decided to steal the Voynich manuscript from Davenport Homestead, as without it the Assassins would not be able to find more Temples.

Die niederländische Kolonialverwaltung entsandte hintereinander zwei Expeditionen, von denen die erste beim Anblick der Schäden auf der Insel zurückkehrte, die zweite hingegen -- in teilweiser Unkenntnis der Gefahren -- den Vulkan noch einmal bestieg und sozusagen als letzte das Innere des bereits aktiven, aber kurzzeitig ruhenden Vulkankraters sah, bevor dieser kurze Zeit später in einer gewaltigen Calderaexplosion verschwand. Am Mittwoch, dem 22. August 1883, erfolgte die erste Eruption. Am Sonntag, dem 26. August, um 13:06 Uhr (jeweils Ortszeit) erfolgte dann eine weitere. Am 27. August 1883 um 5:30 Uhr erfolgte der zweite Ausbruch, um 6:44 Uhr der Dritte und um 8:20 ein weiterer. Um 10:02 Uhr fand der gewaltigste Ausbruch statt. Der Krakatau schleuderte 20 km³ Asche und Gestein bis in eine Höhe von 25 km in die Erdatmosphäre. Die unterirdische Magmakammer entleerte sich rasch und stürzte dann unter dem Gewicht der Deckenformation ein, woraufhin die Wassermassen des umgebenden Meeres schlagartig nachströmten. Wie bei einer Implosion verursachte dieser Einsturz an den umliegenden Küsten eine stellenweise bis zu 40 Meter hohe Flutwelle (Tsunami). Auf die Flutwelle folgten Ascheregen und pyroklastische Ströme -- glühend heiße Gemische aus Gestein, Gas und Asche, welche Geschwindigkeiten bis zu 400 km/h und Temperaturen von 300 bis 800 °C erreichen können. Nadya Widiatmaja adalah seorang jurnalis perempuan berkebangsaan Indonesia. Ketika nenek kandungnya baru saja meninggal, Nadya menemukan foto-foto dan catatan tua milik neneknya. Catatan tersebut berisi cerita tentang kehidupan nenek moyangnya di Jerman hingga akhirnya mereka bermigrasi dari Jerman di abad 19.
Sebelum menemukan foto dan catatan tua neneknya, Nadya tidak begitu paham tentang asal muasal leluhurnya. Berbekal catatan dan foto, serta sedikit cerita dari ibunya, Nadya tergugah dan memutuskan untuk mencari tahu sendiri alasan kuat migrasi leluhurnya dari Jerman saat itu.
Dan perjalanan Nadya pun dimulai!
