Nearly 28 million people visited the Fair. Dubbed the “White City,” it inspired future innovators like Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, unveiled the Ferris Wheel and Cracker Jack®, and, in many ways, marked the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the era’s greatest achievements in science, technology and culture were unveiled there. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famous for his design of New York City’s Central Park, and constructed under the supervision of Daniel Burnham.
The Fair was an engineering marvel. On opening day, President Grover Cleveland depressed a golden telegraph key which sent the first courses of electricity throughout the Fair powering fountains, machines, electric railways and thousands of lights. It was the first use of electricity on such a massive scale.
In addition, fairgoers enjoyed the Midway Plaisance where a one-mile boulevard of fun offered camel riding and guilty pleasures such as belly dancing, street fighting and beer drinking. Against the backdrop of 1893’s troubles with workers’ rights, prejudice, discrimination and corruption, the World’s Columbian Exposition cast a brief ray of hope for the future of humanity.
Filmed in spectacular High-Definition, EXPO – Magic of the White City immerses viewers in one of the world’s biggest extravaganzas and one of the most unforgettable events in American history. There will never be another event like it… or will there?

The demonstrators said they were angry at Prime Minister Tony Abbott's reluctance to add the issue to the agenda of a G20 summit this weekend. They dug holes on the famous beach and placed their heads inside, in a bid to show world leaders they do not agree with Mr Abbott.

Bir define bulma olayıyla ilgili korkunç ve lanetli bir geçmişe sahip olan Kıbledere köylüsü Kübra, aynı zamanda Ebru'nun çocukluk arkadaşıdır. Kübra, kına gecesinde aniden cinlerin saldırısına uğramış ve içinde büyüyen çok güçlü ve tehlikeli bir varlığın tehdidi altına girmiştir. Psikiyatrist Ebru, görüntülü olgu sunumu için Kübra'yı incelemeye alıp, Cinci Hoca dedikleri kişilerin hastalara yaptıklarını ve sonuçlarını kamera ile kayıt altına almak istemektedir. Psikiyatr ve Hoca birlikte Kübra'nın ailesiyle yaşadığı köy evine varırlar. Din ve bilim arasındaki bu çekişme gerçekler ortaya çıktıkça dehşete dönüşmeye başlar. İlk başlarda olaylar çözüme doğru giderken, Kıbledere'nin geçmişinde saklı olan ürpertici olaylar ve tuhaf bir şifre ortaya çıkınca, herkes için cehennem saatleri başlar.

Nearly 28 million people visited the Fair. Dubbed the “White City,” it inspired future innovators like Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, unveiled the Ferris Wheel and Cracker Jack®, and, in many ways, marked the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the era’s greatest achievements in science, technology and culture were unveiled there. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famous for his design of New York City’s Central Park, and constructed under the supervision of Daniel Burnham.
The Fair was an engineering marvel. On opening day, President Grover Cleveland depressed a golden telegraph key which sent the first courses of electricity throughout the Fair powering fountains, machines, electric railways and thousands of lights. It was the first use of electricity on such a massive scale.
In addition, fairgoers enjoyed the Midway Plaisance where a one-mile boulevard of fun offered camel riding and guilty pleasures such as belly dancing, street fighting and beer drinking. Against the backdrop of 1893’s troubles with workers’ rights, prejudice, discrimination and corruption, the World’s Columbian Exposition cast a brief ray of hope for the future of humanity.

Leading researchers, advocates, practitioners, and policymakers convened at this day-long program and left with a better understanding of the complex issues underlying the current social and political climate, empowered with research and resources to strengthen their fight for equity and influence.
Panels considered gender while focusing on: the intersectionality of race, religion, and immigration; child care and leave polices; income equality and labor markets; and health, wellbeing, violence, and safety.
This video includes "Panel Five: The Status of Black Women in the United States" in which panelists involved with a special report by the Institute for Women's Policy Research and the National Domestic Workers Alliance discuss its findings.

Nearly 28 million people visited the Fair. Dubbed the “White City,” it inspired future innovators like Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, unveiled the Ferris Wheel and Cracker Jack®, and, in many ways, marked the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the era’s greatest achievements in science, technology and culture were unveiled there. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famous for his design of New York City’s Central Park, and constructed under the supervision of Daniel Burnham.
The Fair was an engineering marvel. On opening day, President Grover Cleveland depressed a golden telegraph key which sent the first courses of electricity throughout the Fair powering fountains, machines, electric railways and thousands of lights. It was the first use of electricity on such a massive scale.
In addition, fairgoers enjoyed the Midway Plaisance where a one-mile boulevard of fun offered camel riding and guilty pleasures such as belly dancing, street fighting and beer drinking. Against the backdrop of 1893’s troubles with workers’ rights, prejudice, discrimination and corruption, the World’s Columbian Exposition cast a brief ray of hope for the future of humanity.
