Ullapool (/ˈʌləpuːl/;Scottish Gaelic: Ulapul, [ˈuɫ̪apʰuɫ̪]) is a town of around 1,500 inhabitants in Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands. Despite its small size it is the largest settlement for many miles around and a major tourist destination of Scotland. The North Atlantic Drift passes Ullapool, bringing moderate temperatures. A few Cordyline australis or New Zealand cabbage trees are grown in the town and are often mistaken for palms.
On the east shore of Loch Broom, Ullapool was founded in 1788 as a herring port by the British Fisheries Society. It was designed by Thomas Telford. The harbour is still the edge of the village, used as a fishing port, yachting haven, and ferry port. Ferries sail to Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides.
Many of the pivotal discoveries of the Victorian era that contributed to the development of the concept of plate tectonics were made in this area, and there are still regular international geological conferences.
Ullapool is full of souvenir/craft shops, guest houses and hotels, it bustles all day long in summertime with people arriving off the ferry from Stornoway on Lewis or waiting for the next one. The town has a leisure centre with sports facilities and swimming pool, library, grocery shop, bank, butcher's shop, chemist (pharmacy/drug store), supermarket, post office and petrol stations. Boat trips are available to the nearby Summer Isles (see below). Internet access is available at the Ullapool Book Shop near Lochbroom Hardware and The Captain's Cabin (crafts & gifts) which are all situated close to the ferry terminal. Ullapool is a great centre for hillwalking (see below) and it's an ideal base for touring the beautiful landscape of the north-west Highlands. You might be able to spot some ...

Sometimes when Valve delves into weapon balances, they do so well that the game's meta is essentially redesigned. However, there are some weapons that end up in the graveyard of people's backpacks since they can't be used legitimitely any more. The Ullapool Caber is one such example... ---------- TF2 and SFM are owned by Valve. The fourth and final part to our epic adventure! Hope you enjoy it!
This is live music at the Ferry Boat, a pub in Ullapool on the north west coast of Scotland, UK. Summer 2006
Some photographs of my family camping trip to Ullapool and a few pictures of our road trip to John O' Groats. On the way there we drove across country and went up the East Coast, on the way back went right across the top of Scotland and back down the West Coast to Ullapool.
This section of the A835 between Braemore Junction and the Garve Junction is a particularly fine stretch of road when the weather is reasonable .... it can be closed in winter due to ice/snow.. The views in both directions when the visibility is good can be superb. This particular video was taken on my return from a ride out to Ullapool on 3 July 2012. Video compression x 4.

A short, silly video of my cousin and I redoing the 5 days I had to miss out while walking Scotland end to end (due to my messed up feet). Some stunning scenery in this section! I would highly recommend walking it! Here is the link to the our full Scotland end to end adventure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRTkyL-TpzQ Hope you enjoy! :)
The 3rd part of our adventure walking the Scottish National Trail! This part was the beginning of the Cape Wrath trail, which goes through some of Scotland's wildest land! Hope you enjoy it!
Our 2-week tour of Scotland continues as we travel from Balmacara to Ullapool and then on to Thurso. We visited Durness, Inverewe Gardens and the ruins of Ardvreck Castle, saw peat being dug, more Highland Cows and wind turbines facing out over the North Atlantic. Take hold of this moment
Let go all of the past
Everything is broken
Nothing ever lasts
Everything is broken
Nothing ever lasts
Fall back to the one thing
One thing that makes sense
Hold around each other
Be in the present tense
Everything is broken
Nothing ever lasts
Now here we are just like we've started
The ghost of love departed
Well, here we are just like we've started
The ghost of love departed
Take hold of this moment
Let go all of the past
Everything is broken
Nothing ever lasts
Everything is broken
Nothing ever lasts
Well, everything is broken
Nothing ever lasts
Everything is broken
