Symbiosis is close and often long-term interaction between different biological species.
The definition of symbiosis is controversial among scientists. Some believe symbiosis should only refer to persistent mutualisms, while others believe it should apply to all types of persistent biological interactions (i.e. mutualistic, commensalistic, or parasitic).

With so many organisms on Earth, living things are bound to interact with one another. Symbiosis is a close relationship between two species.
One type of interaction between two species is called mutualism. An example of mutualism exists between honey bees and flowers. Flowers provide nectar to the bees. The bees use the sugar rich liquid to make honey. As the bees fly from flower to flower tiny grains of pollen get stuck to the bee. The bee moves the pollen without even knowing it. The pollination is necessary for flowers to reproduce. In this relationship both species benefit. The bee gets nectar and the flower gets pollinated.
Another relationship is called commensalism. This interaction takes place when sharks and remora live together. The remora use sucking disks on their heads to attach themselves to sharks. The sharks are powerful swimmers and do not even notice the remora and are neither helped nor harmed. However the remora benefit from this relationship. The fish get a free ride and protection. They also feed on scraps left over by the shark. In commensalism one species benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed.
The last type of symbiotic relationship is called parasitism. An example of this relationship exists between humans and mosquitoes. The insects land on and take the blood from humans. The mosquito benefits as it uses the blood for energy. The human or host is harmed in this relationship as blood is needed and the human could become infected with disease. In parasitism one species benefits and the other is harmed.

A Short Animated Film produced while I attended Sheridan's School of Computer Animation. During the 8 month program we spent 4 months learning the fundamentals of Maya and the remaining 4 in production of our final short films. Starting without any real experience in 3D Software, this film represents how much one can learn and produce in such a time constraint. Each student conceived and produced their own original independent film and the same was True for this "SYMBIOSIS" film. All storyboarding, modeling, rigging, texturing, animating, rendering, compositing and dynamic effects were done by myself.
Inevitably some compromises had to be made in order to complete the film in the specified timeline but I was quite happy with the end result and had an excellent time during my 8 months.
Sheridan College FTW. Learning is fun.

In this video we see how fishes form symbiotic relationships with other marine life in order to defend themselves. First we find sea urchin cardinalfish, Siphamia versicolor, protecting themselves amongst the spines of sea urchins and crown-of-thorns starfish at Koh Bon, near the Similan Islands, and in the Mergui Archipelago. This is known as a "commensal" relationship, whereby one partner in the relationship benefits while the other receives neither benefit nor harm.
Anemonefish form symbiotic relationships with sea anemones. This is a mutually-beneficial symbiotic relationship. While the fish are protected, their faeces provide food for the anemone and they help keep it free of parasites. We see skunk clownfish, Clark's anemonefish, saddle anemonefish and the well-known ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) finding their home in various species of sea anemone such as the magnificent anemone, Heteractis magnifica.
Porcelain anemone crabs, Neopetrolisthes maculatus, are found in sea anemones in the Similan Islands, while a magnificent shrimp, Ancylomenes magnificus, shelters under the stinging tentacles of a tube anemone at Burma's Shark Cave, itself covered in phoronid worms.
Finally we see how small and juvenile fish "hitchhike" in jellyfish to protect themself from predators.

Symbiosis (from Ancient Greek σύν "together" and βίωσις "living") is close and often long-term interaction between different biological species. In 1877, Bennett used the word symbiosis (which previously had been used of people living together in community) to describe the mutualistic relationship in lichens. In 1879, by the German mycologist Heinrich Anton de Bary, defined it as "the living together of unlike organisms."
The definition of symbiosis is controversial among scientists. Some believe symbiosis should only refer to persistent mutualisms, while others believe it should apply to any types of persistent biological interactions (i.e. mutualistic, commensalistic, or parasitic).
Some symbiotic relationships are obligate, meaning that both symbionts entirely depend on each other for survival. For example, many lichens consist of fungal and photosynthetic symbionts that cannot live on their own. Others are facultative, meaning that they can, but do not have to live with the other organism.

Sir David Frederick Attenborough (
/ˈætənbərə/) OM, CH, CVO, CBE, FRS, FZS, FSA (born 8 May 1926) is a British broadcaster and naturalist.
His career as the face and voice of natural history programmes has endured for more than 50 years. He is best known for writing and presenting the nine Life series, in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit, which collectively form a comprehensive survey of all life on the planet. He is also a former senior manager at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s.
Attenborough is widely considered a national treasure in Britain, although he himself does not care for the term. He is a younger brother of director, producer and actor Richard Attenborough.
Attenborough was born in Isleworth, west London, but grew up in College House on the campus of the University College, Leicester, where his father, Frederick, was principal. He is the middle of three sons (his elder brother, Richard, became an actor and his younger brother, John, an executive at Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo). During World War II his parents also adopted two Jewish refugee girls from Europe.

First we find sea urchin cardinalfish, Siphamia versicolor, protecting themselves amongst the spines of sea urchins and crown-of-thorns starfish at Koh Bon, near the Similan Islands, and in the Mergui Archipelago. This is known as a "commensal" relationship, whereby one partner in the relationship benefits while the other receives neither benefit nor harm. Anemonefish form symbiotic relationships with sea anemones. This is a mutually-beneficial symbiotic relationship. While the fish are protected, their faeces provide food for the anemone and they help keep it free of parasites. We see skunk clownfish, Clark's anemonefish, saddle anemonefish and the well-known ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) finding their home in various species of sea anemone such as the magnificent anemone, Heteractis magnifica. Porcelain anemone crabs, Neopetrolisthes maculatus, are found in sea anemones in the Similan Islands, while a magnificent shrimp, Ancylomenes magnificus, shelters under the stinging tentacles of a tube anemone at Burma's Shark Cave, itself covered in phoronid worms. Finally we see how small and juvenile fish "hitchhike" in jellyfish to protect themself from predators. Symbiosis: Mutualism, Commensalism, and Parasitism
Symbiosis is close and often long-term interaction between different biological species. The definition of symbiosis is controversial among scientists. Some believe symbiosis should only refer to persistent mutualisms, while others believe it should apply to all types of persistent biological interactions (i.e. mutualistic, commensalistic, or parasitic). With so many organisms on Earth, living things are bound to interact with one another. Symbiosis is a close relationship between two species. One type of interaction between two species is called mutualism. An example of mutualism exists between honey bees and flowers. Flowers provide nectar to the bees. The bees use the sugar rich liquid to make honey. As the bees fly from flower to flower tiny grains of pollen get stuck to the bee. The bee moves the pollen without even knowing it. The pollination is necessary for flowers to reproduce. In this relationship both species benefit. The bee gets nectar and the flower gets pollinated. Another relationship is called commensalism. SYMBIOSIS a short film by Mitchell Counsell
A Short Animated Film produced while I attended Sheridan's School of Computer Animation. During the 8 month program we spent 4 months learning the fundamentals of Maya and the remaining 4 in production of our final short films. Starting without any real experience in 3D Software, this film represents how much one can learn and produce in such a time constraint. Each student conceived and produced their own original independent film and the same was True for this "SYMBIOSIS" film. All storyboarding, modeling, rigging, texturing, animating, rendering, compositing and dynamic effects were done by myself. With so many organisms on Earth, living things are bound to interact with one another. Symbiosis is a close relationship between two species.
One type of interaction between two species is called mutualism. An example of mutualism exists between honey bees and flowers. Flowers provide nectar to the bees. The bees use the sugar rich liquid to make honey. As the bees fly from flower to flower tiny grains of pollen get stuck to the bee. The bee moves the pollen without even knowing it. The pollination is necessary for flowers to reproduce. In this relationship both species benefit. The bee gets nectar and the flower gets pollinated.
Another relationship is called commensalism. This interaction takes place when sharks and remora live together. The remora use sucking disks on their heads to attach themselves to sharks. The sharks are powerful swimmers and do not even notice the remora and are neither helped nor harmed. However the remora benefit from this relationship. The fish get a free ride and protection. They also feed on scraps left over by the shark. In commensalism one species benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed.
The last type of symbiotic relationship is called parasitism. An example of this relationship exists between humans and mosquitoes. The insects land on and take the blood from humans. The mosquito benefits as it uses the blood for energy. The human or host is harmed in this relationship as blood is needed and the human could become infected with disease. In parasitism one species benefits and the other is harmed.

A Short Animated Film produced while I attended Sheridan's School of Computer Animation. During the 8 month program we spent 4 months learning the fundamentals of Maya and the remaining 4 in production of our final short films. Starting without any real experience in 3D Software, this film represents how much one can learn and produce in such a time constraint. Each student conceived and produced their own original independent film and the same was True for this "SYMBIOSIS" film. All storyboarding, modeling, rigging, texturing, animating, rendering, compositing and dynamic effects were done by myself.
Inevitably some compromises had to be made in order to complete the film in the specified timeline but I was quite happy with the end result and had an excellent time during my 8 months.
Sheridan College FTW. Learning is fun.

In this video we see how fishes form symbiotic relationships with other marine life in order to defend themselves. First we find sea urchin cardinalfish, Siphamia versicolor, protecting themselves amongst the spines of sea urchins and crown-of-thorns starfish at Koh Bon, near the Similan Islands, and in the Mergui Archipelago. This is known as a "commensal" relationship, whereby one partner in the relationship benefits while the other receives neither benefit nor harm.
Anemonefish form symbiotic relationships with sea anemones. This is a mutually-beneficial symbiotic relationship. While the fish are protected, their faeces provide food for the anemone and they help keep it free of parasites. We see skunk clownfish, Clark's anemonefish, saddle anemonefish and the well-known ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) finding their home in various species of sea anemone such as the magnificent anemone, Heteractis magnifica.
Porcelain anemone crabs, Neopetrolisthes maculatus, are found in sea anemones in the Similan Islands, while a magnificent shrimp, Ancylomenes magnificus, shelters under the stinging tentacles of a tube anemone at Burma's Shark Cave, itself covered in phoronid worms.
Finally we see how small and juvenile fish "hitchhike" in jellyfish to protect themself from predators.

In this video we see how fishes form symbiotic relationships with other marine life in order to defend themselves. First we find sea urchin cardinalfish, Siphamia versicolor, protecting themselves amongst the spines of sea urchins and crown-of-thorns starfish at Koh Bon, near the Similan Islands, and in the Mergui Archipelago. This is known as a "commensal" relationship, whereby one partner in the relationship benefits while the other receives neither benefit nor harm.
Anemonefish form symbiotic relationships with sea anemones. This is a mutually-beneficial symbiotic relationship. While the fish are protected, their faeces provide food for the anemone and they help keep it free of parasites. We see skunk clownfish, Clark's anemonefish, saddle anemonefish and the well-known ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) finding their home in various species of sea anemone such as the magnificent anemone, Heteractis magnifica.
Porcelain anemone crabs, Neopetrolisthes maculatus, are found in sea anemones in the Similan Islands, while a magnificent shrimp, Ancylomenes magnificus, shelters under the stinging tentacles of a tube anemone at Burma's Shark Cave, itself covered in phoronid worms.
Finally we see how small and juvenile fish "hitchhike" in jellyfish to protect themself from predators.
