11. SOUNDBITE (
French): Philippe
Close, Brussels' tourism city councillor:
"Brussels is one of the best known cities in the world; because it is the institutional capital of
Europe and
NATO. But it is most renowned for being an administrative capital, which does not always give it a good image. And so we have tried to develop various initiatives in the city to allow for Brussels to be known differently. To show that one can live well here, that the inhabitants are friendly, and that there are plenty of things to see. And in addition to all that, this project is part of a redevelopment scheme of this industrial zone, which we wanted to transform into a pastime area during
the summer. At the same time we want to redevelop the waterways, because Brussels' rivers were covered more than a century ago, the only one that remains is this canal, which is mainly an industrial canal. Therefore to show to the inhabitants of Brussels and visitors that there still exists a waterway along which one can have a pleasant stay. "

18. SOUNDBITE (French): Philippe Close, Brussels' tourism city councillor:
"There are more than
300 people working on this project, on top of that the people that will be running various stalls, numerous students,
3000 tons of sand, a lot of vegetation, over 50 sports personnel, and entertainers for children. We expect between 400,
000 and
500,000 visitors depending on the weather. Because naturally a project like this only works when the weather is good, for people who come during the summer to relax on this urban beach."

28. SOUNDBITE (French): Vincent Sclamender, Meteorologist at Belgium
Royal Meteorology
Institute:
" For the next four to five days I can tell you, that tomorrow it will still be cloudy over Belgium
with some precipitation and some showers. This weekend, areas of depression will descend southwards towards
France bringing warm air to our region. So this weekend will be warmer, especially Saturday. But on the other hand, there is still a risk of rain and storms."
