The temperament of the West Highland White Terrier can vary greatly, with some being friendly towards children whilst others prefer solitude.[16] It will not tolerate rough handling such as a child pulling on its ears, and can be both food and toy possessive.[17] Members of the breed are normally independent, assured and self-confident and can make good watchdogs. It is a loyal breed that bonds with its owners, but is often always on the move requiring good exercise (15-30 min). Westies are highly social and are the most friendly and jolly of all the Scottish breeds of terrier.[18]
It is a hardy breed, and can be stubborn leading to issues with training. A Westie may need to have its training refreshed on occasion during its lifetime. Having a typical terrier prey drive, it tends to be highly interested in toys especially chasing balls. It does retain the instincts of an earth-dog, including inquisitive and investigative traits,[18] as well as natural instincts to both bark and dig holes.[17] It is ranked 47th in Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs.

Ya desde la Edad Media los ancestros del Bull Terrier, las razas, ahora extintas, old english bulldog y old english white terrier eran criados como perros de presa y de pelea, peleas entre perros y toros. El cruce de estas razas dio una nueva llamada bull and terrier, a finales del siglo XVIII en Gran Bretaña.
El padre de la raza fue James Hinks nacido en 1829 en Irlanda, en la ciudad de Mullingar. Hinks, después de varios años de experiencias, presentó a la raza en la década de 1850. El Bull Terrier está basado, a grandes rasgos, en el actualmente extinto English White Terrier. Hinks pasó años cruzándolo con perros bull y terrier, en un intento por crear un bulldog que no estuviera sólo adaptado al ring de pelea, sino que tuviera un aspecto más hermoso. Rats infestation and rats getting into feed can be a real problem for Farmers like myself. This Mini Rat Terrier works hard to kill a rat or a large mouse. She not a skilled as some but at least she locates them and the get dead. Good rat terrier can be worth it's weight in gold and good insurance against rat overpopulation. Maybe a trap would be better! We don't like to see animals suffer but Mini's job on the farm is killing rats and mice that would otherwise get into the feed stores. Mini is a good farm dog.

It is not uncommon for a brindled Cairn to become progressively more black or silver as it ages. The Cairn is double-coated, with a soft, dense undercoat and a harsh outer coat. A well-groomed Cairn has a rough-and-ready appearance, free of artifice or exaggeration. The cairn terrier was registered into the American kennel club in 1903.

These small but hardy dogs can be courageous, intelligent and affectionate. They can be assertive but it is not typical for them to be aggressive, quarrelsome or shy. They are energetic and thrive on an active life. They are also quite hungry all the time and will eat anything edible. They are eager to please but have definite minds of their own. They are sensitive to scolding but 100% Terrier. They should not usually be kept outside or in a kennel setting because they enjoy the companionship of their owners. Norwich are not given to unnecessary barking, but they will warn of a stranger approaching. Once they realize that there is no threat, they can become immediate friends. Norwich are generally good with children, and if introduced to other household pets as a puppy they generally co-habit peacefully, though caution should be observed around rodent pets as they may be mistaken for prey.

It is not uncommon for a brindled Cairn to become progressively more black or silver as it ages. The Cairn is double-coated, with a soft, dense undercoat and a harsh outer coat. They are sensitive to scolding but 100% Terrier. They should not usually be kept outside or in a kennel setting because they enjoy the companionship of their owners. Norwich are not given to unnecessary barking, but they will warn of a stranger approaching. Once they realize that there is no threat, they can become immediate friends. Norwich are generally good with children, and if introduced to other household pets as a puppy they generally co-habit peacefully, though caution should be observed around rodent pets as they may be mistaken for prey. -

Volunteering at Cheetah Experience, watched an entertaining battle between Kinji, an eight month Cheetah Cub and Chloe, a low tolerance female Jack Russell Terrier. It's non aggressive, at least from Kinji's standpoint, he just wants to play and teases Chloe, but Chloe takes it more serious, even pinching his lips many times. This goes on every week. Kinji is one of the most adorable Cheetahs cubs I've had the pleasure to encounter and interact with. He does bite WAY to hard at times but I love his attitude. He tries and succeeds in making friends with ALL the animals within his reach. He's befriended other larger Cheetah cubs, baby Cheetah cubs, Anatolian Sheppard dog, several adult Cheetahs, meerkats, and even a leopard. It's just Chloe and another smaller dog he just can't seem to win over. So he just teases them. He's fast enough to escape their wrath... most of the time. I have another fascinating video of Kinji coming later. He is actually very bright and playful. There is a toy box outside where all the toys are stored. A large wooden box. Kinji knows the sound of the lid closing and will come running to pick out one of his toys from the box... himself! He clambers inside and scoops out a different toy each time. The only problem is he won't put them back. We have too. I captured the event and recorded it several times to show you. It's really cute. Kinji is an adorable Cheetah cub but surprisingly, he does not purr much. I only heard him purr a few times in the weeks I spent there. The Meerkats, food, and occasionally toys make him purr. At the end of this video, you can here his nearly inaudible purr. I'm laying down with him with one of his toys he picked out from the cat toy box and he purrs. For adult Yorkshire Terriers, importance is placed on coat colour, quality, and texture.[3] The hair must be glossy, fine, straight, and silky. Traditionally the coat is grown out long and is parted down the middle of the back, but "must never impede movement."[4] From the back of the neck to the base of the tail, the coat should be a dark gray to a black colour, and the hair on the tail should be a darker black. On the head, high chest, and legs, the hair should be a bright, rich tan, darker at the roots than in the middle, that shades into a lighter tan at the tips. Also, in adult dogs, there should be no dark hairs intermingled with any of the tan coloured fur. A Yorkshire Terrier puppy, 4 weeks old, displaying the characteristic black/steel black and tan coat. Adult Yorkshire Terriers that have other coat colours than the above, or that have woolly or extra fine coats, are still Yorkshire Terriers. The only difference is that atypical Yorkshire Terriers should not intentionally be bred.[5] In addition, care may be more difficult for "woolly" or "cottony" textured coats, or coats that are overly fine.[3] One of the reasons given for not breeding "off-coloured" Yorkies is that the colour could be a potential indicator of a genetic defect that may affect the dog's health, a careful health screening can clarify if any health risks exist. Coats may vary in color. For example, a grown yorkie may have a silver/blue with light brown while another might have a black and creamy color.

Rats infestation and rats getting into feed can be a real problem for Farmers like myself. This Mini Rat Terrier works hard to kill a rat or a large mouse. She not a skilled as some but at least she locates them and the get dead. Good rat terrier can be worth it's weight in gold and good insurance against rat overpopulation. Maybe a trap would be better! We don't like to see animals suffer but Mini's job on the farm is killing rats and mice that would otherwise get into the feed stores. Mini is a good farm dog. -

Although often mistaken for a Jack Russell Terrier, the Rat Terrier has a different profile and a very different temperament. Rat Terriers are sleeker in musculature, finer of bone, and have a more refined head. They always have a short single coat, rather than being wire coated. Rat Terriers tend to be less aggressive than Jack Russells; while they have a definite terrier personality they also have an "off switch" and love lounging on the sofa in a lap as much as tearing about the yard. Rat Terriers are normally cheerful dogs, and they tend to be calmer and more sensitive than Jack Russells to changes in their environment, owner's moods, or to unexpected noises, people, and activities. I groom a Terrier mix with a 5F blade on the body and thighs, shoulders and the top of the tail.I scissor the skirt, legs and under the tail, I am just taking off a small amount of coat. I use a # 0 plastic blade over a # 40 blade on the topknot, cheeks and under the beard, I use thinning shears between the eyes and on the bangs and the face for a more natural look. It is a loyal breed that bonds with its owners, but is often always on the move requiring good exercise (15-30 min). Westies are highly social and are the most friendly and jolly of all the Scottish breeds of terrier.[18]
It is a hardy breed, and can be stubborn leading to issues with training. A Westie may need to have its training refreshed on occasion during its lifetime. Having a typical terrier prey drive, it tends to be highly interested in toys especially chasing balls. It does retain the instincts of an earth-dog, including inquisitive and investigative traits,[18] as well as natural instincts to both bark and dig holes.[17] It is ranked 47th in Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs.

El Bull Terrier está basado, a grandes rasgos, en el actualmente extinto English White Terrier. Rats infestation and rats getting into feed can be a real problem for Farmers like myself. This Mini Rat Terrier works hard to kill a rat or a large mouse. She not a skilled as some but at least she locates them and the get dead. Good rat terrier can be worth it's weight in gold and good insurance against rat overpopulation. Maybe a trap would be better! We don't like to see animals suffer but Mini's job on the farm is killing rats and mice that would otherwise get into the feed stores. Mini is a good farm dog.

Volunteering at Cheetah Experience, watched an entertaining battle between Kinji, an eight month Cheetah Cub and Chloe, a low tolerance female Jack Russell Terrier. It's non aggressive, at least from Kinji's standpoint, he just wants to play and teases Chloe, but Chloe takes it more serious, even pinching his lips many times. This goes on every week.
Kinji is one of the most adorable Cheetahs cubs I've had the pleasure to encounter and interact with. He does bite WAY to hard at times but I love his attitude. He tries and succeeds in making friends with ALL the animals within his reach. He's befriended other larger Cheetah cubs, baby Cheetah cubs, Anatolian Sheppard dog, several adult Cheetahs, meerkats, and even a leopard. It's just Chloe and another smaller dog he just can't seem to win over. So he just teases them. He's fast enough to escape their wrath... most of the time.
I have another fascinating video of Kinji coming later. He is actually very bright and playful. There is a toy box outside where all the toys are stored. A large wooden box. Kinji knows the sound of the lid closing and will come running to pick out one of his toys from the box... himself! He clambers inside and scoops out a different toy each time. The only problem is he won't put them back. We have too. I captured the event and recorded it several times to show you. It's really cute.
Kinji is an adorable Cheetah cub but surprisingly, he does not purr much. I only heard him purr a few times in the weeks I spent there. The Meerkats, food, and occasionally toys make him purr. At the end of this video, you can here his nearly inaudible purr. I'm laying down with him with one of his toys he picked out from the cat toy box and he purrs.

From the back of the neck to the base of the tail, the coat should be a dark gray to a black colour, and the hair on the tail should be a darker black. On the head, high chest, and legs, the hair should be a bright, rich tan, darker at the roots than in the middle, that shades into a lighter tan at the tips. Also, in adult dogs, there should be no dark hairs intermingled with any of the tan coloured fur.

Aunque el nombre pueda llevar a confusión, el bull terrier no está directamente relacionado con el pit bull terrier americano (APBT). Sin embargo, ambas razas tienen la misma ascendencia. El estándar de Bull terrier miniatura es muy parecido al del Bull terrier, salvo en lo relativo a la alzada a la cruz, que no debe superar los 35,5 cm. Debe dar la impresión de buena sustancia para el tamaño del perro. No hay límite en el peso. El ejemplar debe ser armónico en todo momento.

Apariencia.
Es un perro fuerte, musculoso y de pelo corto. Los colores aceptados son el blanco (se permiten manchas en la cabeza únicamente, en las demás partes del cuerpo son penalizadas en una exposición canina). Los colores negro atigrado, rojo, leonado y tricolor son aceptados. No se tienen en cuenta las marcas de pigmentación en la piel, siempre y cuando no involucren pelo. Los colores azul e hígado son altamente indeseables.

Las características típicas son la forma ovalada de su cabeza, que de perfil se curva hacia abajo desde la parte superior del cráneo hasta el extremo del hocico. La frente es plana de oreja a oreja, de frente la cabeza tiene la forma de un huevo. Y los ojos en forma triangular.

No existen límites de peso o estatura, pero el ejemplar debe dar una impresión de máxima solidez en relación con sus rasgos distintivos y sexo, pero pueden alcanzar los 35 kg. Existe una variedad miniatura donde si se penaliza superar cierta estatura.

El estándar de la raza los describe como: De carácter equilibrado, debe aprender a obedecer las órdenes. Aunque obstinado debe ser gentil con las personas. Han sido descritos también como extremadamente valientes y combativos, muy leales, activos y apegados a sus dueños.
Su fuerza física es comparable con su inteligencia, y tanto su cuerpo como su mente deben mantenerse activos. Necesitan tiempo para correr y hacer ejercicio. No son perros indicados para principiantes, ya que requieren mucho tiempo para ser adiestrados. Son perros que gustan de la compañía, así que no es buena idea dejarlos solos durante mucho tiempo, dado que con sus potentes mandíbulas junto con el estrés y la depresión que llegan a tener en soledad pueden llevarlos a ocasionar muchos daños en la vivienda. Es un excelente perro de compañía.

Es enormemente fuerte por lo cual no se debe dejar desatendido con niños menores de 8 años, puesto que tienden a saltar, jugar y por su masa muscular pueden derribar sin intención a los niños, por eso es recomendable hacer una introducción paulatina entre el niño y el perro, para que de esta manera, el animal comprenda los límites y el niño aprenda a interactuar con el perro.

Los altos niveles de testosterona de los bull terrier machos no son necesariamente un problema de salud, pero sí pueden constituir un problema de convivencia, ya que aumentan la territorialidad de estos perros. Si no se piensa criar, es recomendable castrar a los machos. De manera análoga, es recomendable esterilizar a las hembras que no vayan a reproducir.

Although often mistaken for a Jack Russell Terrier, the Rat Terrier has a different profile and a very different temperament. Rat Terriers are sleeker in musculature, finer of bone, and have a more refined head. They always have a short single coat, rather than being wire coated.
Rat Terriers tend to be less aggressive than Jack Russells; while they have a definite terrier personality they also have an "off switch" and love lounging on the sofa in a lap as much as tearing about the yard. Rat Terriers are normally cheerful dogs, and they tend to be calmer and more sensitive than Jack Russells to changes in their environment, owner's moods, or to unexpected noises, people, and activities. The social sensitivity of Rat Terriers makes them very trainable and easier to live with for the average pet owner, but it also means that extensive socialization from an early age is critical. Proper socialization of a Rat Terrier puppy includes exposing the animal to a wide variety of people and places, particularly during the first three months of life. Like most active and intelligent breeds, Rat Terriers tend to be happier when they receive a great deal of mental stimulation and exercise.

Momo lives with me in the city. Therefore I can take a walk only on street.

Halo learned how to ring a bell to tell me she has to go potty. This was about 10 minutes into her first exposure to the bell. She did very well. She is very food motivated so teaching her is easy. Sometimes it is hard to keep her away from my hand because she gets so excited about getting a treat! Sweet heart! One of her greatest successes came in 1987 when her homebred Ch. Kilfel Pointe of View, known as "Flirt", went Best In Show at Devon, followed the next day by capturing Best In Show at the famous all Terrier show, Montgomery County Kennel Club. Flirt followed up her show career by producing 9 champion offspring, which has tied her as the Top Producing Dam in breed history to date.
Ch Northcote Delzar Serious Riot, the 2004 BIS winner at Montgomery County K.C., descended from her line. Patti has participated actively in the US Lakeland Terrier Club, serving not only on the Board of Directors but twice as President. For over 20 years, readers of the AKC Gazette enjoyed her regular Lakeland Terrier Columns. She co-chaired the comittee to conform the US Lakeland Terrier Standard to AKC guidelines, and helped edit and illustrate the "Lakeland Terrier Illustrated Standard", put out by the US Lakeland Terrier Club.
Patti's extensive knowledge of dogs is in part result of working as a licensed veterinary technician for 30 years, well as working for the great professional handlers Thomas Gately, William Traynor, and Peter Green. In addition to her proven success as a breeder, Patti is widely respected for her talents as an artist and sculptor, with her work often exhibited as trophies at specialty shows or as fund raising items.
About this video - A personal note from Terri Alloway
When I was asked to present a breed seminar on Lakeland Terriers to the Central Ontario Judges Study Group in May of 2007, I knew that it was an opportunity of a lifetime to support and encourage the Judges in their education and appreciation of our breed. I also knew there was someone far more knowledgeable and capable than me! When Pat Peters accepted the invitation to come to Canada, I decided to create an event that would be an investment in the future of the Lakeland Terrier breed.
It is not often that judges, breeders and exhibitors can personally interact with someone of Patti's expertise and knowledge. Recognizing that this event would be of great interest to others, we decided to film both of Patti's presentations and make them available to Judges and fanciers across North America. Response to the event brought fanciers from across Canada and the United States. In addition to the educational content of the seminar, the opportunity to meet other breeders and enjoy some relaxed time together was an added enticement!
A very relaxed, hands-on trimming session was held the second day and some time was also spent evaluating three litters and several adolescent dogs. About Pat Peters
Breed, exhibited, or sold over 50 Champion Lakeland Terriers. Her kennel has provided stud services and foundation stock to many of today's current top Lakeland Terriers in the US, Canada and Overseas. Patti purchased her first Lakeland in 1969. One of her greatest successes came in 1987 when her homebred Ch. Kilfel Pointe of View, known as "Flirt", went Best In Show at Devon, followed the next day by capturing Best In Show at the famous all Terrier show, Montgomery County Kennel Club. Flirt followed up her show career by producing 9 champion offspring, which has tied her as the Top Producing Dam in breed history to date.
Ch Northcote Delzar Serious Riot, the 2004 BIS winner at Montgomery County K.C., descended from her line. Patti has participated actively in the US Lakeland Terrier Club, serving not only on the Board of Directors but twice as President. For over 20 years, readers of the AKC Gazette enjoyed her regular Lakeland Terrier Columns. She co-chaired the comittee to conform the US Lakeland Terrier Standard to AKC guidelines, and helped edit and illustrate the "Lakeland Terrier Illustrated Standard", put out by the US Lakeland Terrier Club.
Patti's extensive knowledge of dogs is in part result of working as a licensed veterinary technician for 30 years, well as working for the great professional handlers Thomas Gately, William Traynor, and Peter Green. In addition to her proven success as a breeder, Patti is widely respected for her talents as an artist and sculptor, with her work often exhibited as trophies at specialty shows or as fund raising items.
About this video - A personal note from Terri Alloway
When I was asked to present a breed seminar on Lakeland Terriers to the Central Ontario Judges Study Group in May of 2007, I knew that it was an opportunity of a lifetime to support and encourage the Judges in their education and appreciation of our breed. I also knew there was someone far more knowledgeable and capable than me! When Pat Peters accepted the invitation to come to Canada, I decided to create an event that would be an investment in the future of the Lakeland Terrier breed.
It is not often that judges, breeders and exhibitors can personally interact with someone of Patti's expertise and knowledge. Recognizing that this event would be of great interest to others, we decided to film both of Patti's presentations and make them available to Judges and fanciers across North America. Response to the event brought fanciers from across Canada and the United States. In addition to the educational content of the seminar, the opportunity to meet other breeders and enjoy some relaxed time together was an added enticement!
A very relaxed, hands-on trimming session was held the second day and some time was also spent evaluating three litters and several adolescent dogs. It is my hope that this DVD will become a tool that will mentor breeders and educate judges both now, and in the future. I trust that this presentation will not only be a lasting tribute to the generations of breeders who have made Lakeland Terriers what they are today, but will also encourage the passion of future breeders in their commitment to preserve and protect the Lakeland Terrier breed.

Un excelente perro de compañía para personas activas. Existe una variante llamada Parson Russell terrier que es de mayor tamaño.
La raza fue reconocida en el año 2000 por la FCI, en 2009 por el United Kennel Club, y en junio del 2012 el American Kennel Club reconoció a esta misma raza bajo el nombre de «Russell terrier»

Esta raza de perros debe su nombre al Reverendo John «Jack» Russell. Nacido en 1795 en Darmouth, Inglaterra, fue pastor durante muchos años en la parroquia de Swymbridge, en el condado de Devon. Amante de los terrier, durante sus estudios en Oxford compró su primer perro de estas características, una hembra blanca de pelo duro con marcas en la cabeza llamada «Trump», que por la descripción y foto que de ella se conservan se parece bastante al actual estándar FCI del Jack Russell terrier.
La caza del zorro era muy practicada en el condado de Devon en la época en la que vivió el reverendo Russell, y él era un apasionado de esta actividad. Su afición le llevó a la crianza de perros. Así, comenzó a cruzar perros de caza, más exactamente terrier de distintas razas unicolores y multicolores. Lo que él buscaba era mejorar la aptitud de los ejemplares, no homogeneizar el aspecto físico de los mismos y por ello al morir no dejó un estándar concreto. Los cruces y la no estandarización de la raza han provocado divergencias acerca del aspecto actual del Jack Russell terrier.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) A Florida jury sided with ex-pro wrestler Hulk Hogan on Friday and awarded him $115 million in his sex tape lawsuit against Gawker Media. The jurors reached the decision Friday evening, less than six hours after they began deliberations. The trial lasted two weeks, and Hogan wept as the verdict was read.
