Born in Warwick, Sawers was brought up in a family of five children in Bath and educated at the City of Bath Boys' School (which became Beechen Cliff School before he left), where he still holds the 440-yard hurdles school record. He studied physics and philosophy at the University of Nottingham, and spent periods at the Universities of St Andrews, Witwatersrand and Harvard. During his time at Nottingham he took a year out of his studies to serve in the students' union committee. His interests include theatre, hiking and sport, especially tennis and cycling. His wife Shelley is a teacher. They have three grown-up children.
Sawers joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1977. In his early career, Sawers worked in Yemen and Syria, which according to some reports was on behalf of MI6. He became Political Officer in Damascus in 1982 and then returned to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office to take up the roles of Desk Officer in the European Union Department in 1984 and Private Secretary to the Minister of State in 1986.

Russia has become a danger to Britain and the country must be prepared to take steps to defend itself and its allies, the former head of MI6 says.
Sir John Sawers, who recently retired after five years as chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that Russia poses a "state to state threat".
Sir John said dealing with such threats would require more defence spending.
But he called on issues with Russia to be addressed by "increased dialogue".
He said he was disappointed how, after the end of the Cold War, Russia's and Europe's paths had failed to converge.

Heads of MI5, MI6 and GCHQ talk about their secret work to protect the UK [Committee FULL]
Parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee - GCHQ's Sir Iain Lobban, MI5's Andrew Parker and MI6's Sir John Sawers talk about their secret work....and how terrorists are "rubbing their hands in glee"!
They are the men who traditionally live in the shadows, but the heads of MI5, MI6 and GCHQ were subjected to a public inquisition for the first time as MPs sought to demystify the work of Britain's intelligence agencies.
Sir John Sawers, the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service MI6, appeared alongside Andrew Parker, Director-General of the Security Service, MI5, and Sir Iain Lobban.
The 34 foiled plots
The most striking new fact to be divulged was that the intelligence agencies and police have foiled 34 terrorist plots against the UK since the July 7 suicide bombings of 2005.
Mr Parker, however, warned that there are still "thousands" of violent extremists living in the UK who are known to MI5.
He said: "The vast majority of plots come from people who live here." He added that some plots aimed to be at least as big as 7/7, and: "Spectaculars are still in the minds of terrorists."
One or two plots discovered each year were "aimed at mass casualties", he said, the majority of which were thwarted by the actions of the intelligence and security agencies.
It's not like James Bond
Sir John Sawers, who is known by the codename of C within MI6, used the hearing to dispel the myth of his organisation employing 007-style operatives.
He said intelligence-gathering was painstaking and lengthy and: "The idea of sending an agent off into the field, like James Bond, who comes back after a couple of months, it doesn't work like that."
He added: "It's not like it was in the Cold War. There aren't states out there trying to destroy our Government and our way of life. But there are a very wide range of diverse threats that we face.
"The biggest is terrorism - the threat from al Qaeda and its many, many branches. There are also states out there that are trying to do us harm, through cyber-attacks, by acquiring nuclear weapons or involved in generating instability in parts of the world important to us."
He said his agents were never left without support, and if necessary "we will wake the Foreign Secretary up in the middle of the night" to get a decision on a difficult issue.
Mr Parker said 10 per cent of MI5's work involved old-style counter-espionage work against the threat from foreign states, with most of the Security Service's workload taken up with terrorism.
He said the terrorism threat in Northern Ireland was "diminishing year on year" and "won't last forever" because Ulster had "moved on" and over time terrorists will either be "jailed or give up".
We are not complicit in torture
Sir John denied outright that British intelligence officers had been complicit in torture of terrorism suspects overseas.
He said: "I don't accept the allegations that have been made against us...we're absolutely clear we only operate within the framework of the law.
"There are some countries we can't work with at all, Syria for example."
"There are some countries which have mixed human rights records and we seek clear assurances that when we provide intelligence it will be used lawfully and if anyone is detained or questioned as a consequence of our intelligence, it is done to our standards."
Mr Parker said: "Would we pursue a situation that we knew would lead to mistreatment or torture of an individual to get terrorist threat intelligence? The answer is absolutely not."
The 'terrorism tourists'
The civil war in Syria has been a magnet for British extremists looking for the opportunity for "jihadi" activity, Mr Parker said.
"Syria has become a very attractive place for people to go for that reason - those who support or sympathise with the al Qaeda ideological message," he said.
"We've seen low hundreds of people from this country go to Syria for periods and come back - some large numbers are still there - and get involved in fighting.
"This is partly because of the proximity of Syria and the ease of travel there, but also because it is attractive as what they would see as a jihadi cause."
Asked by Lord Ancram why the agencies had not predicted the Arab Spring, Sir John said: "We are not crystal ball gazers; we are intelligence agencies. We could all see the fault lines in Arab societies but no-one predicted when the earthquake would hit."
We are not cyber-snoopers
Sir Malcolm Rifkind suggested many people believe the "real cyber threat" in the UK comes from GCHQ seeking to collect personal data.
Sir Iain replied: "We do not spend our time listening to the telephone calls or reading the e-mails of the majority...it would not be legal. We do not do it.
"It would be very nice if terrorists or serious criminals used a particular method of communication and everybody else used something else. That is not the case."

"It would be very nice if terrorists or serious criminals used a particular method of communication and everybody else used something else. That is not the case."

Russia's threat was "not necessarily directly to the UK but to countries around its periphery".
"[Russia] keep on reminding us that they have nuclear weapons," he said.
"The one level in which Russia and America are equals is at the nuclear level.
"Now we don't want to have a repeat of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 where we got to the brink of nuclear war.
"We need to be able to address this through increased dialogue."His comments come after a year of fighting in eastern Ukraine between government forces and pro-Russian separatists.

John Sawers, former Chief of the Secret intelligence Service/MI6, speaks with CNN's Fareed Zakaria for his show GPS. Naturally, Zakaria implies that terrorism is the new normal, and that little can be done about it. To Zakaria's credit, however, he does touch on the unwillingness of Moslem/Arab societies in the east (Gulf States and Iran) to absorb refugees/migrants.

STORYLINE
The arrival of the new UN representative means the reconstruction of Iraq is growing from a coalition effort into a wider international project, United Nations and coalition leaders said on Tuesday.
"We share the same goals: to empower the free people of Iraq as soon as possible," Sergio Vieira de Mello said after a meeting with L. Paul Bremer, the top U.S. official in Iraq, and John Sawers, Britain's special representative.
De Mello arrived in Baghdad on Monday under the aegis of a UN Security Council resolution.
That measure, adopted last month, permits the UN to work "intensively" with both the Iraqi people and the occupying powers to form an independent Iraqi government.
The UN will also handle jobs that appear to have overwhelmed the US military - including humanitarian assistance tasks, restoring the country's damaged infrastructure and establishing local and national government institutions, such as police forces and courts.
Bremer described the United Nations' role as "vital" and said: "We have a very good sense of mutual mission here."
The meeting took place in the former presidential palace that now houses the US-led occupation administration.
But De Mello said the extent of the UN mandate in Iraq was still in flux, adding "the size of our role is something we will have to define".
The UN Security Council lifted economic sanctions against Iraq last month, allowing money from the sale of Iraqi oil to go into a new reconstruction fund to be run by the United States and Britain.

Turning a blind eye to abuse is complicity with the crimes. She also got dismissed on 'trumped up' charges being bullied out of the organisation. The child protection system simply doesn't work and people remain in post who covered up criminal child abuse.

The Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), commonly known as MI6 (Military Intelligence, Section 6), is the British intelligence agency which supplies the British Government with foreign intelligence. It operates under the formal direction of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) alongside the internal Security Service (MI5), the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and Defence Intelligence (DI).
It is frequently referred to by the name MI6 (Military Intelligence, Section 6), a name used as a flag of convenience during the First World War when it was known by many names.[4] The existence of the SIS was not officially acknowledged until 1994.[5]
In late 2010, the head of the SIS delivered what he said was the first public address by a serving chief of the agency in its then 101-year history. The remarks of Sir John Sawers primarily focused on the relationship between the need for secrecy and the goal of maintaining security within Britain. His remarks acknowledged the tensions caused by secrecy in an era of leaks and pressure for ever-greater disclosure.[6]
Since 1995, the SIS headquarters have been at Vauxhall Cross on the South Bank of the River Thames.
Second World War[edit]
During the Second World War the human intelligence work of the service was overshadowed by several other initiatives:
The cryptanalytic effort undertaken by the Government Code and Cypher School (GC&CS;), the bureau responsible for interception and decryption of foreign communications at Bletchley Park.
The extensive "double-cross" system run by MI5 to feed misleading intelligence to the Germans
Imagery intelligence activities conducted by the RAF Photographic Reconnaissance Unit (now JARIC, The National Imagery Exploitation Centre).
GC&CS; was the source of Ultra intelligence, which was very useful.[15]
MI6 assisted the Gestapo via "the exchange of information about Communism", and as late as October 1937, the head of the British agency's Berlin station, Frank Foley, described his relationship with Heinrich Müller's so-called communism expert as "cordial".[16]
The most significant failure of the service during the war was known as the Venlo incident, named for the Dutch town where much of the operation took place. Agents of the German army secret service, the Abwehr, and the Counter-Espionage section of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD), posed as high-ranking officers involved in a plot to depose Hitler. In a series of meetings between SIS agents and the 'conspirators', SS plans to abduct the SIS team were shelved due to the presence of Dutch police. On the night of 8–9 November 1939, a meeting took place without police presence. There, the two SIS agents were duly abducted by the SS.[17]
In 1940, journalist and Soviet agent Kim Philby applied for a vacancy in Section D of SIS, and was vetted by his friend and fellow Soviet agent Guy Burgess. When Section D was absorbed by Special Operations Executive (SOE) in summer of 1940, Philby was appointed as an instructor in the arts of "black propaganda" at the SOE's training establishment in Beaulieu, Hampshire.[18]
In early 1944 MI6 re-established Section IX, its prewar anti-Soviet section, and Kim Philby took a position there. He was able to alert the NKVD about all British intelligence on the Soviets—including what the American OSS had shared with the British about the Soviets.[19]
Despite these difficulties the service nevertheless conducted substantial and successful operations in both occupied Europe and in the Middle East and Far East where it operated under the cover name Interservice Liaison Department (ISLD).

Bilderberg 2015: Mystery Surrounds Shadowy Globalist Summit
A shadowy collection of globalists embedded throughout centers of power worldwide — political, military, banking, media, intelligence, business, academia, and more — wrapped up their annual Bilderberg summit on June 14 in Telfs-Buchen, Austria. The secrecy-obsessed confab has been receiving increased attention, relatively speaking, even from even the establishment press in recent years, following decades of complete silence. This year was no exception. But what humanity’s alleged public servants and self-appointed masters were discussing behind closed doors and armies of taxpayer-funded security officially remains a mystery — potentially in violation of numerous laws such as the U.S. Logan Act. Essentially, though, your future and the future of your nation were on the agenda.
However, despite pretences of increased transparency, virtually nothing is known publicly about what “the money-changers and the self-appointed masters of the universe,” as the U.K. Guardian’s Kevin McKenna described them, were plotting at their mega-luxury hotel (shown). “Only bankers, the CEOs of multinationals and western political leaders who have been on their payroll for a minimum of 10 years get to attend,” McKenna wrote in a sarcastic and humorous piece. Of course, key establishment media operatives are also invited to attend, but only under conditions of strict secrecy. Along with the “journalists,” editors, propagandists, and media magnates were prime ministers, foreign ministers, defense ministers, top globalist bureaucrats, a president, CEOs, royalty, and even some convicted globalist criminals (anti-U.S. sovereignty fanatic Gen. David Petraeus) for good measure.
At this year’s summit, a variety of media outlets sent reporters, including the U.K. Guardian, Infowars, American Free Press, some local outlets, and others. As has generally been the case, reporters and even locals were treated with disdain, hostility, and suspicion by the tax-funded security operatives guarding the globalists inside. More than 2,000 police, paid for with public funds, were reportedly on hand to guard the paranoid globalists against a handful of protesters, reporters, and local residents at the resort. The security was so on edge that a “COBRA” officer reportedly accidently fired an assault rifle at a police helicopter flying overhead.
In the official release, Bilderberg bigwigs also claimed, “There is no desired outcome, no minutes are taken and no report is written.” “Furthermore, no resolutions are proposed, no votes are taken, and no policy statements are issued,” it also said. However, those claims fly in the face of a wide array of public statements by numerous Bilderberg attendees. For example, in 2010, former NATO boss and two-time Bilderberg attendee Willy Claes said in a radio interview that reports of speeches given at the summit are, in fact, compiled. “The participants are then obviously considered to use this report in setting their policies in the environments in which they affect,” Claes added, which analysts said was essentially an admission that Bilderberg attendees are secretly plotting your future behind closed doors.

Sir John Desmond Patrick Keegan OBE FRSL (15 May 1934 – 2 August 2012) was a British military historian, lecturer, writer and journalist. He was the author of many published works on the nature of combat between the 14th and 21st centuries concerning land, air, maritime, and intelligence warfare, as well as the psychology of battle.
Keegan was born in Clapham, London, on 15 May 1934, to a family of Irish Catholic extraction. His father saw active service in the First World War.
At the age of 13 Keegan contracted orthopaedic tuberculosis, which subsequently affected his gait. The long-term effects of his tuberculosis rendered him unfit for military service, and the timing of his birth made him too young for service in the Second World War, as mentioned in his works as an ironic observation on his profession and interest.[1] The illness also interrupted his education during his teenage years; however, his education included a period at King's College, Taunton, and two years at Wimbledon College, which led to entry to Balliol College, Oxford, in 1953. Following graduation he worked at the American Embassy in London for three years.[2]
In 1960 he was appointed to a lectureship in Military History at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the training establishment for officers of the British Army. Holding the post for 26 years, he became senior lecturer in military history during his tenure. During this period he also held a visiting professorship at Princeton University and was Delmas Distinguished Professor of History at Vassar College.[3]
Leaving the academy in 1986[4] Keegan joined the Daily Telegraph as a Defence Correspondent and remained with the publication as Defence Editor until his death, also writing for the American conservative website, National Review Online. In 1998 he wrote and presented the BBC's Reith Lectures, entitled War in our World.
When asked about the Vietnam War, Keegan repled: "I will never oppose the Vietnam War. Americans were right to do it. I think they fought it in the wrong way. I don't think it's a war like fighting Hitler, but I think it was a right war, a correct war."
Keegan believed that NATO's bombing of Serbia and Serbian targets in Kosovo in 1999 showed that air power alone could win wars.
An article in the Christian Science Monitor called Keegan a "staunch supporter" of the Iraq War. The article quotes Keegan: "Uncomfortable as the 'spectacle of raw military force' is, he concludes, that the Iraq war represents 'a better guide to what needs to be done to secure the safety of our world than any amount of law-making or treaty-writing can offer.'" He frequently justified the war by making comparisons between it and other, more popular wars, such as both World Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.

Sir John Sawers is Chairman and Partner of Macro Advisory Partners. Sir John joins Macro Advisory Partners after completing his five-year tenure as Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in November 2014. Prior to joining SIS he was the UK’s Permanent Representative (Ambassador) to the United Nations (2007-2009), Political Director of the Foreign Office (2003-2007), Special Representative in Iraq (2003), Ambassador to Cairo (2001-2003) and Foreign Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister (1999-2001).

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Sergio Vieira de Mello, UN Special Representative to Iraq:
"Well I subscribe to everything ambassador Bremer says. This was a first, but detailed and productive meeting. We share the same goals - which is to empower the free people of Iraq as soon as possible and as you know, the Secretary General (Annan) has requested me to come and help achieve just that."

7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul Bremer, US Administrator in Iraq:

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Sergio Vieira de Mello, UN Special Representative to Iraq:

Energy giant BP, increasingly exposed in some of its exploration and extraction facilities to potentially fatal risks has added a heavyweight security expert to its board. In fact they do not come much heavier than Sir John Sawers, who retired as head of MI6 in November.
He has been offered a position as non-executive director. He is currently chairman and partner at Macro Advisory Partners.
Sawers was previously Britain’s Ambassador at the UN, and served in the Middle East in a number of senior government roles especially in Egypt and Iraq. He ran MI6 for five years.

Joanne Parkin: "They've been raping the children of Wiltshire for twenty years". In a shocking interview this week former youth leader in St John's Ambulance in Wiltshire Joanne Parken describes systematic protection of child abusers within the county. Turning a blind eye to abuse is complicity with the crimes. She also got dismissed on 'trumped up' charges being bullied out of the organisation. The child protection system simply doesn't work and people remain in post who covered up criminal child abuse.
