In this video Paul Andersen explains how water is unequally distributed around the globe through the hydrologic cycles. Seawater is everywhere but is not useful without costly desalination. Freshwater is divided between surface water and groundwater but must me stored and moved for domestic, industrial, and agricultural uses. Subsidized low cost water has created a problem with water conservation but economic changes could help solve the problem.

Water resources are sources of water that are useful or potentially useful. Uses of water include agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. Virtually all of these human uses require fresh water.
97% of the water on the Earth is salt water.However, only three percent is fresh water; slightly over two thirds of this is frozen in glaciers and polar ice caps. The remaining unfrozen freshwater is found mainly as groundwater, with only a small fraction present above ground or in the air.
Fresh water is a renewable resource, yet the world's supply of clean, fresh water is steadily decreasing.[citation needed] Water demand already exceeds supply in many parts of the world[where?][citation needed] and as the world population continues to rise, so too does the water demand. Awareness of the global importance of preserving water for ecosystem services has only recently emerged as, during the 20th century, more than half the world’s wetlands have been lost along with their valuable environmental services for Water Education.[citation needed] The framework for allocating water resources to water users (where such a framework exists) is known as water rights.

Freshwater is divided between surface water and groundwater but must me stored and moved for domestic, industrial, and agricultural uses. Subsidized low cost water has created a problem with water conservation but economic changes could help solve the problem.

On February 27th, 2016, an all day presentation and panel discussion on industrial hemp is scheduled at the Great Hall at Cooper Union, a venue made famous when Abraham Lincoln gave his impassioned speech against allowing the advancement of slavery to the Western Territories. Currently, we as a country face another form of slavery: that being a form of corporatism that continues to impact our ability to grow the American economy through the cultivation of industrial hemp.
Executive Director of the Hemp Industries Association, Eric Steenstra, will give an over view of the history of industrial hemp in America up through and including the contemporary hemp movement and how we can get involved in ending the 70 year ban on growing hemp in our country regardless of whether we live in urban or rural areas.
Panelists include Mike Lewis, founder of Growing Warriors in Kentucky and one of the leaders in the hemp farm movement; Tim Callahan, owner of Alembic Studio, designer and builder of hempcrete homes and Jamie Campbell Petty, the Founder of the Indiana Chapter of the HIA. Vermont farmer and activist Joel Bedard will address the issues and concerns faced by hemp farmers as the crop transitions to legal status.
The work of artist Glenn Goldberg will be on view from March 3rd through the 6th at the Art on Paper New York fair. Approximately 20,000 attendees will have the opportunity to view this unique work and learn about industrial hemp.
In collaboration with master paper maker Paul Wong, Goldberg will translate his iconic imagery from paint to hemp. The entire installation will be produced from industrial hemp, bringing the notion of paper and working on paper down to its most basic roots.
Glenn Goldberg will include a series of drawings made with sheets of hemp paper he received as a gift from Morris Beegle of the Colorado Hemp Company made from the first legal harvest of hemp in America in more than 50 years.
On March 5th, 2016, our second panel presentation on industrial hemp will cover hemp legislation in New York State; CBD oil production and use; industrial hemp in Colorado and the opening of the new hemp processing plant in South Carolina. Speakers include New York Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, Colorado hemp farmer Ryan Loflin and Joel Stanley, who with his brothers created the CBD oil strain Charlotte's Web.

For six million years, the Colorado River ran its course from its soaring origins in the Rockies to a once-teeming two-million-acre delta, finally emptying 14 million acre-feet of fresh water into the Sea of Cortez. She will also describe how California water management is changing to cope with the impacts of population growth, climate change and increasing conflicts between uses.
Felicia was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the State Water Resources Control Board for the State of California in 2012, and designated by the Governor as Chair in April of 2013. She previously served as the Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region IX during the Clinton Administration. Prior to that, Felicia headed Los Angeles' Department of Public Works at a time when the City went from garnering lawsuits to garnering national awards for environmental excellence. In the non-profit world, she was the Western Director for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Executive VP/COO of the Trust for Public Land (TPL), and was a private and non-profit sector attorney in Los Angeles. In the best of times, water resource managers have a complex task, anticipating the multitude of factors that can affect the reliability of the community's water supply and investing in resources or projects that will provide a buffer against uncertainty. But what does a manager do when the perfect storm strikes? Las Vegas, for decades the fastest-growing metropolitan area in the United States, serves as an excellent case study for those interested in navigating through extreme conditions. With commitments already secured to augment the water supply of a blossoming community, the Southern Nevada Water Authority watched as its primary water supply—Lake Mead—receded from drought at the same moment the agency's financial reserves shrank from recession. Finding solutions that would meet the community's needs, assuage the financial community's concerns and maintain the agency's firm financial footing required equal measures creativity and resolve.
Bio:Pat Mulroy oversees the operations of the Southern Nevada Water Authority and the Las Vegas Valley Water District. The SNWA treats and delivers water to Southern Nevada agencies that collectively serve more than 2 million customers and nearly 40 million annual visitors.
Mulroy joined the LVVWD in 1985 and assumed the role of general manager in 1989. She was a principal architect of the SNWA, which has served as a model for other Western water agencies since its creation in 1991. Mulroy is President of the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Water Research Foundation and the National Water Resources Association. She is a member of the American Water Works Association. Mulroy was the original chairperson of the Western Urban Water Coalition and served on the Colorado River Water Users Association's board of directors.
A Southern Nevada resident for more than three decades, Mulroy served as special assistant to the Clark County Manager and as Clark County Justice Court Administrator before joining the LVVWD.
