Beijing Blue is the first episode of the "A Beautiful Country" trilogy. It is a critique of capitalism in the data era, exploring the hyper-rational processes of the new digital market and its absurd geopolitical consequences.
Alipay is now the world’s largest e-commerce payment platform, with more than $500 million in transactions per day. It utilizes the time differential between trading and transaction to gather large amounts of sedimentary cash flow, making Alipay a new type of internet-based "Cloud Bank" without any physical supplement.
To maximize the amount of cash in the money pool, 4 principles and related strategies are used:
Principle 1: Transactions rather than objects.
Strategy 1: Delivery is meaningful, what to be delivered is meaningless.
Principle 2: As many transactions as possible.
Strategy 2: To create needs, to evoke desires, to impose the fear of lacking.
Principle 3: Transactions must be perpetual.
Strategy 3: It should be consumable.
Principle 4: Delivery should be as slow as possible.
Strategy 4: To utilize force majeure, to convince people it is worth waiting for.
The four business strategies represented in the diary of MA Yun which formed the foundation and organizing principles of my critique. With Beijing’s severe air pollution problem as a backdrop, Beijing Blue narrates an alternative future operated by three companies: the air company E-MPTY which relies on online transactions; the aircraft manufacturer Boeing which provides the physical transportation of the commercialized fresh air; and Alibaba, the owner of the online payment platform. These three companies work together to sell fresh air to the residents of Beijing and beyond. By describing the absurdity of daily life under a brutal capitalist logic, the film casts doubt on the political zealousness and the geopolitical predicament in the data era today.

It utilizes the time differential between trading and transaction to gather large amounts of sedimentary cash flow, making Alipay a new type of internet-based "Cloud Bank" without any physical supplement.
To maximize the amount of cash in the money pool, 4 principles and related strategies are used:
Principle 1: Transactions rather than objects.
Strategy 1: Delivery is meaningful, what to be delivered is meaningless.
Principle 2: As many transactions as possible.
Strategy 2: To create needs, to evoke desires, to impose the fear of lacking.
Principle 3: Transactions must be perpetual.
Strategy 3: It should be consumable.
Principle 4: Delivery should be as slow as possible.
Strategy 4: To utilize force majeure, to convince people it is worth waiting for.
The four business strategies represented in the diary of MA Yun which formed the foundation and organizing principles of my critique. With Beijing’s severe air pollution problem as a backdrop, Beijing Blue narrates an alternative future operated by three companies: the air company E-MPTY which relies on online transactions; the aircraft manufacturer Boeing which provides the physical transportation of the commercialized fresh air; and Alibaba, the owner of the online payment platform. These three companies work together to sell fresh air to the residents of Beijing and beyond. By describing the absurdity of daily life under a brutal capitalist logic, the film casts doubt on the political zealousness and the geopolitical predicament in the data era today.

Dutch artists, architects and designers are rated amongst the worldwide frontrunners in applying new lighting technology such as LED and OLED. The exhibition Liberation of Light shows that LEDs are much more than small, sustainable 'lamps'. Light has literally been freed from the casing of that familiar bulb. A light revolution has manifest itself - as big as or perhaps even greater than the invention of the lightbulb 150 years ago.
'Liberation of Light' has gone worldwide. After the huge success of Yksi's 'Liberation of Light', previously exhibited at the Designhuis, Eindhoven, it is making a world tour. The exhibition, showing LED's and design previously presented at the Beijing Design Week, China from the 25th of September till the 3th of October followed its world tour to the Guangzhou Design Week from the 9th till the 11th of December.

International documentary mini-series (4 X 58") seen in 42 countries by 250+ million people worldwide. An unexpected look at city life in a country where Adam Smith has replaced Karl Marx, and nothing will ever be the same.
Episode #1: Shanghai.
This is a tale of what seems to be two cities. On the west bank of Shanghai’s legendary Huangpu River stands Puxi, its most recognizable feature The Bund... a brilliantly-lit collection of Art Deco buildings from the early 20th Century. On the east bank is Pudong… its glittering and futuristic skyline a testament to China’s return as a center of international commerce. Together they comprise modern Shanghai.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve as only Shanghai can. Then meet an American couple whose journey to China was as intense as it was rewarding, and three local artists who took very different paths to achieve their creative dreams.
Also featured are a top Asian fashion designer, a “lady boxer,” an Israeli photographer racing to save evidence of an all-but-vanished “Jewish Shanghai” and a wealthy Canadian businessman on a similar mission to preserve examples the city’s fast-disappearing Chinese architectural heritage.
I was the Series Producer/Writer, as well as Producer/Director of selected segments. It would never have been possible without the help of Co-Producer Jiang Weihui. Episode #1: Shanghai.
This is a tale of what seems to be two cities. On the west bank of Shanghai’s legendary Huangpu River stands Puxi, its most recognizable feature The Bund... a brilliantly-lit collection of Art Deco buildings from the early 20th Century. On the east bank is Pudong… its glittering and futuristic skyline a testament to China’s return as a center of international commerce. Together they comprise modern Shanghai.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve as only Shanghai can. Then meet an American couple whose journey to China was as intense as it was rewarding, and three local artists who took very different paths to achieve their creative dreams.
Also featured are a top Asian fashion designer, a “lady boxer,” an Israeli photographer racing to save evidence of an all-but-vanished “Jewish Shanghai” and a wealthy Canadian businessman on a similar mission to preserve examples the city’s fast-disappearing Chinese architectural heritage.
I was the Series Producer/Writer, as well as Producer/Director of selected segments. It would never have been possible without the help of Co-Producer Jiang Weihui. “Quality is an attitude of mind.” The great architectural mastermind of our time Norman Foster, who turned 80 in June 2015, here reflects on a long and prosperous career – and life – with prominent buildings and more than 1,000 employees all over the world.
Foster has always considered technology to be an ally. As a child he was immensely excited by machines and their speed – he spent many hours making sketches of and reading about them. He left school at age 16, did National Service for two years, worked different jobs to earn money, but never abandoned his private world of drawing and dreaming. When he discovered that he as an architect could actually do the things that had always excited him, it simply didn’t feel like work.
Respecting the structure of a city or a place is essential: “I’ve realized the important links between individual buildings and infrastructure.” Architecture has to address the bigger issues and make a difference to the world we live in. Architects can’t solve every problem in the world, but what they can do, however, is to contribute by turning the complex into something simple via shape as well as material and being aware of the “urban glue” that binds everything together: “We have rethought, redesigned, reinvented. We have questioned and gone back to basics.”

Yksi exhibition: Liberation of Light ON TOUR in Guangzhou
Dutch artists, architects and designers are rated amongst the worldwide frontrunners in applying new lighting technology such as LED and OLED. The exhibition Liberation of Light shows that LEDs are much more than small, sustainable 'lamps'. Light has literally been freed from the casing of that familiar bulb. A light revolution has manifest itself - as big as or perhaps even greater than the invention of the lightbulb 150 years ago.
'Liberation of Light' has gone worldwide. After the huge success of Yksi's 'Liberation of Light', previously exhibited at the Designhuis, Eindhoven, it is making a world tour. The exhibition, showing LED's and design previously presented at the Beijing Design Week, China from the 25th of September till the 3th of October followed its world tour to the Guangzhou Design Week from the 9th till the 11th of December.

Beijing Blue is the first episode of the "A Beautiful Country" trilogy. It is a critique of capitalism in the data era, exploring the hyper-rational processes of the new digital market and its absurd geopolitical consequences.
Alipay is now the world’s largest e-commerce payment platform, with more than $500 million in transactions per day. It utilizes the time differential between trading and transaction to gather large amounts of sedimentary cash flow, making Alipay a new type of internet-based "Cloud Bank" without any physical supplement.
To maximize the amount of cash in the money pool, 4 principles and related strategies are used:
Principle 1: Transactions rather than objects.
Strategy 1: Delivery is meaningful, what to be delivered is meaningless.
Principle 2: As many transactions as possible.
Strategy 2: To create needs, to evoke desires, to impose the fear of lacking.
Principle 3: Transactions must be perpetual.
Strategy 3: It should be consumable.
Principle 4: Delivery should be as slow as possible.
Strategy 4: To utilize force majeure, to convince people it is worth waiting for.
The four business strategies represented in the diary of MA Yun which formed the foundation and organizing principles of my critique. With Beijing’s severe air pollution problem as a backdrop, Beijing Blue narrates an alternative future operated by three companies: the air company E-MPTY which relies on online transactions; the aircraft manufacturer Boeing which provides the physical transportation of the commercialized fresh air; and Alibaba, the owner of the online payment platform. These three companies work together to sell fresh air to the residents of Beijing and beyond. By describing the absurdity of daily life under a brutal capitalist logic, the film casts doubt on the political zealousness and the geopolitical predicament in the data era today.

International documentary mini-series (4 X 58") seen in 42 countries by 250+ million people worldwide. An unexpected look at city life in a country where Adam Smith has replaced Karl Marx, and nothing will ever be the same.
Episode #1: Shanghai.
This is a tale of what seems to be two cities. On the west bank of Shanghai’s legendary Huangpu River stands Puxi, its most recognizable feature The Bund... a brilliantly-lit collection of Art Deco buildings from the early 20th Century. On the east bank is Pudong… its glittering and futuristic skyline a testament to China’s return as a center of international commerce. Together they comprise modern Shanghai.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve as only Shanghai can. Then meet an American couple whose journey to China was as intense as it was rewarding, and three local artists who took very different paths to achieve their creative dreams.
Also featured are a top Asian fashion designer, a “lady boxer,” an Israeli photographer racing to save evidence of an all-but-vanished “Jewish Shanghai” and a wealthy Canadian businessman on a similar mission to preserve examples the city’s fast-disappearing Chinese architectural heritage.
I was the Series Producer/Writer, as well as Producer/Director of selected segments. It would never have been possible without the help of Co-Producer Jiang Weihui. The Coordinating Producer was Julie Jinwen Dai. The series was narrated by Chris Verrell. The Executive-in-Charge of Production for Viewpoint Communications was Sun Lianggang.

“Quality is an attitude of mind.” The great architectural mastermind of our time Norman Foster, who turned 80 in June 2015, here reflects on a long and prosperous career – and life – with prominent buildings and more than 1,000 employees all over the world.
Foster has always considered technology to be an ally. As a child he was immensely excited by machines and their speed – he spent many hours making sketches of and reading about them. He left school at age 16, did National Service for two years, worked different jobs to earn money, but never abandoned his private world of drawing and dreaming. When he discovered that he as an architect could actually do the things that had always excited him, it simply didn’t feel like work.
Respecting the structure of a city or a place is essential: “I’ve realized the important links between individual buildings and infrastructure.” Architecture has to address the bigger issues and make a difference to the world we live in. Architects can’t solve every problem in the world, but what they can do, however, is to contribute by turning the complex into something simple via shape as well as material and being aware of the “urban glue” that binds everything together: “We have rethought, redesigned, reinvented. We have questioned and gone back to basics.”
Norman Robert Foster (b. 1935) is an English architect and designer, who is considered one of the most prolific architects of his generation. He is the founder of Foster and Partners (1967) and responsible for renowned buildings such as London City Hall and Millennium Bridge (London), Reichstag (Berlin), Bilbao Metro, Hearst Tower (New York), Hong Kong International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport and Apple Spaceship Headquarters (est. 2016). Foster, who is a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers and winner of the society’s highest award, The Minerva Medal, has received several awards such as the Pritzker-prize in 1999 (often referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture), the Stirling Prize in 1998 and 2004, as well as the Aga Khan Award for Architecture – the biggest architectural award in the world – for the University of Technology Petronas in Malaysia (2007). He was knighted in 1990, and in 1999 he was created a life peer, as Baron Foster of Thames Bank, of Reddish in the County of Greater Manchester.
Norman Foster was interviewed by Marc-Christoph Wagner in his home near Geneva, Switzerland in April 2015.

Yksi exhibition: Liberation of Light ON TOUR in Guangzhou
Dutch artists, architects and designers are rated amongst the worldwide frontrunners in applying new lighting technology such as LED and OLED. The exhibition Liberation of Light shows that LEDs are much more than small, sustainable 'lamps'. Light has literally been freed from the casing of that familiar bulb. A light revolution has manifest itself - as big as or perhaps even greater than the invention of the lightbulb 150 years ago.
'Liberation of Light' has gone worldwide. After the huge success of Yksi's 'Liberation of Light', previously exhibited at the Designhuis, Eindhoven, it is making a world tour. The exhibition, showing LED's and design previously presented at the Beijing Design Week, China from the 25th of September till the 3th of October followed its world tour to the Guangzhou Design Week from the 9th till the 11th of December.
