Well yesterday at 12:01am Septa went on
Strike but now that's over since the government stepped in. Well this gave me a rare chance to film all the action without septa running. I will tell you the upper level was empty at 30th street. It looked deserted and it had a dark eerie look to it
. As you can see in the first clip every Septa line was suspend. Well when I get there is a gathering of great power
. In the yard are
Phase 4
P32 513, Phase 5 P32 514,
P42 9,
GP38H-3 527, GP38-3 721,GP38H-3 523, GP38H-3 524, AEM7AC 918,HHP8 661, and finally the first diesel I sat in on my
16th birthday GP38H-3 521. Its been many years since
I've seen this unit in person and I have great memories of that day I sat in the engineers set. She still looks mighty good :-). Also in the yard is what
I believe to be a
Amtrak test train with Viewliner baggage car 61000 and
Missouri Kansas Texas Observation car 403. That observation car is the first
MKT equipment I've ever filmed. Its at 30th street because its being repaired. A fellow engineer told me that.
First train of the day was a
D.C. bound
Acela with power cars
2011 and 2022.
Following behind the Acela was an inbound
Keystone with rebuilt cab car 9641.
Pushing at the rear is AEMDC 915. While waiting for some more trains I filmed a Septa bus and a super stretched
Yukon limo. At the same time I see an
Army Humvee and then realized its a mini military convoy. Shortly after I filmed the start up of GP38H-3 523 and 527.
Soon 523,721 and 527 depart the yard. At the sametime AEM7DC 915 departs with its Keystone now heading for
New York. Also departing is a
Northeast Regional with AEM7DC's 926 and
906. This train has priority over the Keystone as its also heading to New York. Then the 523,721, and 527 run right through the station heading towards D.C.
Meanwhile Phase 4 P32 513 departs towing AEM7AC 918. A few minutes later a westbound
CSX freight shows up on the old
PRR high line. The lead unit is flared
SD70MAC 4719 while the second unit is CSX AC4400CW 317. The freight has a wide variety of cars from grain, to coil cars and trash cars. There's even a rare
SBD coal hopper in the train. Shortly after the freight clears P42 9 is backed up in preparation for the inbound Pennsylvanian train 43 from New York. Not long after I hear the sound of an ACS64 and sure enough ACS64
606 departs with the
Crescent train 20 . Following a few minutes later is the
Atlantic City bound
NJT train with
P40 4801 pushing at the rear. A few minutes pass and The Pennsylvanian train 43 arrives with AEM7AC 921. A special car is also on the train its
Federal Railway Administration (
FRA) car "
Office of
Safety" DOTX 221. I got some history on this car and its ex-Acme Tonopah 1847
Belle McKee, exx-VIA 1083 Cape
Brule, nee-CN) PS LW
Test car rblt. from 2 Comp - 2
DBR - buffet lounge. That's a mouth full there but its amazing the history of this car. It looks like PRR but the
Tuscan is a lot light then usual. P42 9 is then backed up and coupled to the train but won't leave for almost half an hour. At the same time I hear a horn on the other side of the Schuylkill river. To my surprise it was a trio of run-through UP power. The lead unit was UP AC4400CW 7004 followed by UP
SD70M 3996 and finally UP
Flag AC45CCTE 7989 GE built
ES44AC. The units are leading a oil train and right behind the units are two untouched
Missouri Pacific grain hoppers. The train the slows and stops for sometime. Meanwhile an inbound NJT train with
GP40PH-2 4202 leading enters
30th Street. While waiting I film the tank train moving again. At the same time ACS64
604 shows up with the
Silver Star train 91 heading to D.C. This is the first time I've filmed 604 in revenue service. Shortly after AEM7AC 908 departs with a Northeast Regional heading for New York. The Pennsylvanian train 43 departs running about 6 minutes late. I get a second chance to film the FRA car as the train heads west. Following a few minutes behind is AEM7AC 921. Its the same unit that brought in train 43 from New York. 921 is then taken to the yard. At the same time I get my third freight of the day. Its begin lead by CSX SD70ACe 4838 and CSX
Dash 9-4CW 7909. This freight also has a variety of cars including weathered grain hoppers and woodchip cars. Soon after the fright leaves AEM7AC
905 arrives with its Keystone and I get horn action as it enters 30th Street. Then a CSX
MOW crew shows up on the other side of Schuylkill river for another surprise. After that AEM7AC's 919 and 946 arrive with another D.C. bound Northeast Regional
. Finally to close out this hour plus video I film AEM7DC 907 as it departs heading to New York. I caught al of this action in a 4 hour period and it was sure worth it. I hope you enjoyed the video!!
