"Down the Road a Piece" is a boogie-woogie song written by Don Raye. In 1940, it was recorded by the Will Bradley Trio and became a top 10 hit in the closing months of the year. Called "a neat little amalgam of bluesy rhythm and vivid, catchy lyrics," the song was subsequently recorded by a variety of jazz, blues, and rock artists.
"Down the Road a Piece" was recorded in 1940 by members of the Will Bradley/Ray McKinley Orchestra as the "Will Bradley Trio" (a misnomer as Bradley does not perform on the song, while a fourth, the song's writer Don Raye, does). Three musicians are mentioned in the lyrics:
The drummer man's a guy they call 'Eight Beat Mack'
And you remember Doc and ol' 'Beat Me Daddy' Slack
"Eight Beat Mack" refers to drummer Ray McKinley, "Doc" refers to bass player Doc Goldberg, and "Beat Me Daddy Slack" refers to pianist Freddie Slack (a reference to "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar", a hit recorded earlier in 1940 by Slack with the Bradley/McKinley Orchestra). Vocals for "Down the Road a Piece" were provided by McKinley and Raye.

Down The Road is the second and last album by Stephen Stills' band Manassas. It was released in 1973.
The album was not very well received. Rolling Stone was especially critical, saying "[i]t would be sad to think the people involved put this record out not because of business pressures but because they were proud of it." It only made it to #26 on the Billboard album charts and its single, "Isn't It About Time", only made it to #56 on the Billboard singles charts.

Title: Pharisee Musical genius: Stan Rogers Album: From Coffee House to Concert Hall From Coffee House To Concert Hall is a compilation album of unreleased songs which were recorded before Stan's death. This is one of my favourites by him. To say it saw me through some tough times would be a great understatement.
On the blue side of evenin' When the darkness takes control You start lookin' for a reason To take your lonesome on down the road 'Cause the night is filled with strangers All you need is one you know And if she ain't the one you're after Keep on lookin' on down the road Though the miles lay long behind you You have still got miles to go How's love ever gonna find you If it ain't here it's down the road Keep on lookin' on down the road
Love is like an earthquake-unpredictable, a little scary, but when the hard part is over you realize how lucky you truly are.

Now if you wanna hear some boogie like I'm gonna' play
It's just an old piano and a knocked out bass
The drummer man's a cat they call, Kickin' McCoy
I know you remember that old rubber-leg boy
Mama cookin' chicken, fried in bacon grease
Come on along boys, it's just down the road apiece
Well, there's a place you really get your kicks
It's open every night, from 'bout twelve to six
If you wanna hear some boogie, you can get your fill
They shoot the eight beat to you like an old steam drill
Come on along, you can to lose your lease
Down the road, down the road, down the road apiece
Well, there's a place you really get your kicks
Its open every night, from 'bout twelve to six
If you wanna hear some boogie, you can get your fill
They shoot the eight beat to you like an old steam drill
Come on along, you can lose your lease
Down the road, down the road, down the road apiece
Down the road, down the road
Down the road, down the road
Down the road, down the road
Well, momma cookin' chicken, fried in bacon grease
Come on along boys, it's just down the road apiece
Down the road, down the road
Down the road, down the road
Down the road, down the road
Well, it's better than chicken fried in bacon grease
