Transcript - I don’t give a fuck what anyone says in college. I think if you’re in college you shouldn’t actually have an opinion about anything, you know. I think that you should probably even if you had a tough childhood I think you should probably spend a decade in the workforce. Or if not in the workforce you should spend a decade hating yourself and becoming fatter and uglier and balder and just, you know, I mean you should. And then someone you love should leave you. With that said, you know, my biggest problem is not what happens on college campuses because I try to stay away from college campuses as much as possible. Is really just, you know, what happens to language and people’s free use of language. I think that, you know, speech should be harmful and defanged speech is not speech. I think speech should always have the power to wound and I think it should be allowed to wound because not only is that the right pressure valve that brings you away from actual physical violence, you know. But more importantly it is a preparation for true pain in life. In the sense of, you know, when you’re spoken to in a certain way that’s harmful. But when you read a book with content that you consider harmful, right, you can’t talk back to it.
You can ignore it. You can, you know, tell other people not to read it, right. But the idea of translating our standards for interpersonal speech to a standard for literature or even just written communication that has stood some test of time is perverse to me. The whole point of the Greeks is that you never know what your trigger warning is because it’s your hamartia, it’s your fatal flaw. If someone told you what your trigger warning was you probably wouldn’t end up, you know, killing your father and sleeping with your mother, you know. I mean implied in the history of literature, Western literature is essentially people who were confronted with – people who were not warned or people who did not heed warnings, right. And these things are supposed to be lessons for us not to set up our own warnings. But they’re actually just supposed to be examples of what life will do to all of us and maybe conciliations for how to abide.

A wound is a type of injury in which skin is torn, cut or punctured (an open wound), or where blunt force trauma causes a contusion (a closed wound). In pathology, it specifically refers to a sharp injury which damages the dermis of the skin.
Open wounds can be classified according to the object that caused the wound. The types of open wound are:
Closed wounds have fewer categories, but are just as dangerous as open wounds. The types of closed wounds are:
An open wound
A laceration to the leg
A lacerated knee
An infected puncture wound to the bottom of the forefoot.
A puncture wound from playing darts.
To heal a wound, the body undertakes a series of actions collectively known as the wound healing process.
The overall treatment depends on the type, cause, and depth of the wound as well as whether or not other structures beyond the skin (dermis) are involved. Treatment of recent lacerations involves examining, cleaning, and closing the wound. If there is a delay in treatment and the laceration occurred more than 6-24 hours before evaluation, it may be preferable to heal by secondary intention, due to the high rate of infection associated with delayed closure. Minor wounds, like bruises, will heal on their own, with skin discoloration usually disappearing in 1–2 weeks. Abrasions, which are wounds with intact skin (non-penetration through dermis to subcutaneous fat), usually require no active treatment except keeping the area clean, initially with soap and water. Most abrasions tend to have an overall better appearance post-healing when kept moist for about a week with an ointment, such as aquaphor healing ointment or vasoline. Puncture wounds may be prone to infection depending on the depth of penetration. The entry of puncture wound is left open to allow for bacteria or debris to be removed from inside.

Severe Facial Trauma Shotgun Wound GRAPHIC MEDICAL SCENE
Self inflicted shotgun wound to the face. Barrel of the gun was under the chin and the blast traveled up and forward. All structures below the orbital floors are disrupted. The mandible, maxilla, palate and zygomas are missing and the soft tissue is severely compromised as is the airway. He was conscious and breathing on his own. He was transported by paramedics in the helicopter face down since had he been on his back the damaged facial tissue would have fallen back into his airway in addition to blood draining into the airway. The posterior 1/3 of the tongue was visible on laryngoscopy providing a guide for locating the trachea for intubation. The patient required significant and numerous plastic surgeries and was discharged home after some weeks. No brain or large neck vessel involve... -

With that said, you know, my biggest problem is not what happens on college campuses because I try to stay away from college campuses as much as possible. Is really just, you know, what happens to language and people’s free use of language. I think that, you know, speech should be harmful and defanged speech is not speech. I think speech should always have the power to wound and I think it should be allowed to wound because not only is that the right pressure valve that brings you away from actual physical violence, you know. But more importantly it is a preparation for true pain in life. In the sense of, you know, when you’re spoken to in a certain way that’s harmful. But when you read a book with content that you consider harmful, right, you can’t talk back to it.
You can ignore it. You can, you know, tell other people not to read it, right. But the idea of translating our standards for interpersonal speech to a standard for literature or even just written communication that has stood some test of time is perverse to me. The whole point of the Greeks is that you never know what your trigger warning is because it’s your hamartia, it’s your fatal flaw. If someone told you what your trigger warning was you probably wouldn’t end up, you know, killing your father and sleeping with your mother, you know. I mean implied in the history of literature, Western literature is essentially people who were confronted with – people who were not warned or people who did not heed warnings, right. And these things are supposed to be lessons for us not to set up our own warnings. But they’re actually just supposed to be examples of what life will do to all of us and maybe conciliations for how to abide.

Self inflicted shotgun wound to the face. Barrel of the gun was under the chin and the blast traveled up and forward.
All structures below the orbital floors are disrupted. The mandible, maxilla, palate and zygomas are missing and the soft tissue is severely compromised as is the airway. He was conscious and breathing on his own. He was transported by paramedics in the helicopter face down since had he been on his back the damaged facial tissue would have fallen back into his airway in addition to blood draining into the airway.
The posterior 1/3 of the tongue was visible on laryngoscopy providing a guide for locating the trachea for intubation. The patient required significant and numerous plastic surgeries and was discharged home after some weeks.
No brain or large neck vessel involvement. Both eyes were intact and he retained his vision. His vocal cords and larynx were also intact and speech was regained. The jaw was reconstructed with bone graft, skin grafts and muscle flaps, as was the nose.
9/2/13 UPDATE: There have been many comments on this video to the effect that the patient should have been "allowed to die" especially because this was a suicide attempt. Some have called the health professionals derogatory names and characterized them as "cruel" and worse.
First, a general comment. All patients are given the same quality of care, the same "standard of care" regardless of the cause of their illness or injury. Health care professionals are not there to judge individuals and/or their lives and then provide care according to some bias. To suggest suicide attempt patients should not receive full appropriate medical treatment is absurd, thoughtless and not part of civilized society.
Specifically regarding this patient, he was awake and alert on arrival and breathing on his own. He was not, in fact, dying. He was not bleeding to death. There were no major blood vessels that were damaged. Without ANY treatment he would have lived for a number of days (3-5 likely) until he slowly and painfully died from either a massive infection, severe swelling and occlusion of the airway (suffocated) or of dehydration. He would have been conscious the entire time.
He received multiple re-constructive surgeries both before and after he returned home. He did not go on to attempt or commit suicide for the 2 years of follow up we have knowledge of.
UPDATE 6/10/15 Since comments expressing the belief that the patient should have been "left to die" or even euthanized continue accompanied by opinions on the resultant quality of life and his willingness to die, I present this quote from a medical journal article about these very patients:
"The treatment {of attempted suicide shotgun wounds to the face} is rewarding, and the results are surprisingly good. It is extremely unusual for patients with self-inflicted gunshot injuries to reattempt suicide. Clinics in Plastic Surgery 2001 http://europepmc.org/abstract/med/11400826

Researchers at North Carolina State University have created a new strain of green bottle fly maggots that produce human growth factor. The growth factor molecule is known to promote cell growth and wound healing. The use of maggots to debride wounds is a form of traditional medicine. The maggots feed on dead and decayed tissue, allowing healthy tissue to regenerate. The technique is called maggot debridement therapy or MDT. -

Is your wound-cleansing practice up to date?
“Manual cleansing technique
For a linear wound or incision:
1. Pour irrigation solution into the irrigation tray. Moisten clean 4″×4″ gauze pads in the solution; squeeze out excess.
2. Gently wipe the wound from top to bottom in one motion, starting directly over the wound.
3. Discard the used gauze pad.
4. Using a new moistened 4″×4″ gauze pad, repeat cleaning, using a gentle downward stroke parallel to the incision.
5. Repeat steps, working outward from the incision in lines parallel to the incision.
6. Remember to use a new 4″×4″ gauze pad for each downward stroke.
7. If needed, dry the wound, following the same procedure as for cleaning, using dry gauze pads.
For an open wound:
1. Pour the irrigation solution into the irrigation tray. Moisten 4″×4″ gauze pads in the solution; squeeze out excess.
2. Gently clean the wound in a full or half circle, beginning in the center and working toward the outside.
3. Use a new 4″×4″ gauze pad for each circle.
4. Clean at least 1 inch beyond the end of the new dressing or 2 inches beyond the wound margins if you aren’t applying a dressing.
5. If needed, dry the wound, using the same procedure as for cleaning. Gently pat the wound dry, using dry gauze pads.”
There are various ways to use Haritaki in this regard;
• The powder can be made into a paste that is then put on the wound or ulcer. This has been effective in reducing swelling, and decreasing the time taken in healing the wound.
• If the eyelids are swollen or suffering from conjunctivitis the paste can be applied to assist in reducing that issue.
• Taken orally, n the mouth the Haritaki has proven useful for clearing up bleeding and ulceration's of the gums.
• Use the Haritaki in an enema to flush the anal passage.

Is your wound-cleansing practice up to date?
“Manual cleansing technique
For a linear wound or incision:
1. Pour irrigation solution into the irrigation tray. Moisten clean 4″×4″ gauze pads in the solution; squeeze out excess.
2. Gently wipe the wound from top to bottom in one motion, starting directly over the wound.
3. Discard the used gauze pad.
4. Using a new moistened 4″×4″ gauze pad, repeat cleaning, using a gentle downward stroke parallel to the incision.
5. Repeat steps, working outward from the incision in lines parallel to the incision.
6. Remember to use a new 4″×4″ gauze pad for each downward stroke.
7. If needed, dry the wound, following the same procedure as for cleaning, using dry gauze pads.
For an open wound:
1. Pour the irrigation solution into the irrigation tray. Moisten 4″×4″ gauze pads in the solution; squeeze out excess.
2. Gently clean the wound in a full or half circle, beginning in the center and working toward the outside.
3. Use a new 4″×4″ gauze pad for each circle.
4. Clean at least 1 inch beyond the end of the new dressing or 2 inches beyond the wound margins if you aren’t applying a dressing.
5. If needed, dry the wound, using the same procedure as for cleaning. Gently pat the wound dry, using dry gauze pads.”
There are various ways to use Haritaki in this regard;
• The powder can be made into a paste that is then put on the wound or ulcer. This has been effective in reducing swelling, and decreasing the time taken in healing the wound.
• If the eyelids are swollen or suffering from conjunctivitis the paste can be applied to assist in reducing that issue.
• Taken orally, n the mouth the Haritaki has proven useful for clearing up bleeding and ulceration's of the gums.
• Use the Haritaki in an enema to flush the anal passage.

Researchers at North Carolina State University have created a new strain of green bottle fly maggots that produce human growth factor. The growth factor molecule is known to promote cell growth and wound healing.
The use of maggots to debride wounds is a form of traditional medicine. The maggots feed on dead and decayed tissue, allowing healthy tissue to regenerate. The technique is called maggot debridement therapy or MDT.

For Hegel, spirit is the wound of nature, it derails every natural balance, but it is at the same time spirit itself which heals its own wound. This Hegelian insight will be developed in its philosophical, theological, and political implications: why is the Fall a happy occurrence? How does permissiveness turn into oppression? Why does only the most brutal capitalist alienation open up the possibility for freedom?
Slavoj Žižek will be introduced by his best fiend, Avital Ronell.
Slavoj Žižek, Ph.D., is a senior researcher at the Institute of Sociology, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and a visiting professor at a number of American Universities (Columbia, Princeton, New School for Social Research, New York University, University of Michigan). He obtained his Ph.D. in Philosophy in Ljubljana studying Psychoanalysis. He also studied at the University of Paris. Slavoj Zizek is a cultural critic and philosopher who is internationally known for his innovative interpretations of Jacques Lacan. He is Author of The Indivisible Remainder; The Sublime Object of Ideology; The Metastases of Enjoyment; Looking Awry: Jacques Lacan through Popular Culture; The Plague of Fantasies and The Ticklish Subject.
Avital Ronell is a University Professor in the Humanities and in the Departments of German and Comparative Literature at New York University. Her research spans the fields of literary studies, psychoanalysis, feminist philosophy, political philosophy, and ethics. As Jacques Derrida Professor of Philosophy, she also teaches regularly at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. Among her recent books are Loser Sons: Politics and Authority (University of Illinois Press, 2012); The Test Drive (University of Illinois Press, 2007); Stupidity (University of Illinois Press, 2003).

Synopsis - Jogi Thakur (Govind Namdev) is the power behind the ruling party ministers in Bombay City, and not only rules over the underworld, but also over the law-makers; the Home Minister (Anant Jog); the Police Commissioner (Virendra Saxena), and police officers all over the city. The Police of the City are on the look out for an escaped convict Tanya (Seema Biswas). The police are assisted by Sarja (Mita Vasisht), who is the Warden of the prison that Tanya broke out from. Tanya has confessed to killing her husband, Jayant (Pankay Berry). At every encounter with Tanya, in prison or out, Sarja severely and mercilessly beats up Tanya to a pulp, but Tanya keeps eluding the law, and with the help of Journalist Pooja (Gulrez), her friends Rahul (Rahul Bhatt) and Vicky (Deepak Tijori) hopes to unravel the mystery behind the death of her husband Jayant (Pankaj Berry); find her missing sister-in-law Guddi (Gayatri); and seek justice. Finally, the Commissioner to rogue police inspector Gautam (Om Puri) and instructs him to bring in Tanya dead or alive. Nobody is what they appear and Tanya soon realises that Vicky is amongst the people who had perpetrated the injustice against her.

Hunters from Outwest Farms located in Okeechobee, Florida have posted an image showing a massive, near 15-foot, 780 pound alligator they found and killed. According to CNN, the huge reptile was discovered on Saturday on one of the ponds located on a private ranch owned by Outwest Farms owner Lee Lightsey ...
