Titãs

Titãs (Portuguese pronunciation: [tʃiˈtɐ̃s]) are a rock band from São Paulo, Brazil. Though they basically play pop/alternative rock, their music has touched a number of other styles throughout their 30-year career, such as new wave, punk rock, grunge, MPB and electronic music.

They are one of the most successful rock bands in Brazil, having sold more than 6.3 million albums and having been covered by several well-known Brazilian artists and a couple of international singers. They were awarded a Latin Grammy in 2009 and have won the Imprensa Trophy for Best Band a record four times.

Titãs started with a rather unusual line-up of nine members (including six lead vocalists): Nando Reis (bass guitar, vocals), Branco Mello (vocals), Marcelo Fromer (Rhythm guitar), Arnaldo Antunes (vocals), Tony Bellotto (Lead guitar), Paulo Miklos (sax, mandolin, harmonica, vocals), André Jung (drums), Sérgio Britto (keyboards, vocals) and Ciro Pessoa (vocals). Pessoa quickly left the band even before their debut album, Titãs, was released. André Jung was the initial drummer, but just after Titãs he also quit and was replaced by Charles Gavin, establishing their classic line-up.

Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network is an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned by the Turner Broadcasting System division of Time Warner. The channel airs primarily animated programming, ranging from action to animated comedy. It was founded by Betty Cohen and launched on October 1, 1992.

It is primarily aimed at children and teenagers between the ages of 7–16, and also targets older teens and adults with mature content during its late night daypart Adult Swim, which is treated as a separate entity for promotional purposes and as a separate channel by Nielsen for ratings purposes. A Spanish language audio track for select programs is accessible via SAP; some cable and satellite companies offer the Spanish feed as a separate channel.

As of February 2015, Cartoon Network is available to approximately 96.4 million pay television households (82.8% of households with television) in the United States.

History

Development

On August 4, 1986, Ted Turner's Turner Broadcasting System acquired Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer/United Artists from Kirk Kerkorian; due to concerns over the debt load of his companies, on October 17, 1986, Turner was forced to sell MGM back to Kerkorian after approximately only 74 days of ownership. However, Turner kept much of MGM's film and television library made prior to May 1986 (as well as some of the United Artists library) and formed Turner Entertainment.

Cabeça Dinossauro

Cabeça Dinossauro (Portuguese for Dinosaur Head) is the third studio album by Brazilian rock band Titãs. It was released in June 1986. The album's front and back covers were taken from sketches by Leonardo da Vinci.

Background, accolades and re-release

Cabeça Dinossauro was the first Titãs album to be produced by Liminha, and the first of the band to receive a gold certification in December 1986. In a 2012 interview, guitarist Tony Bellotto revealed he made a bet with vocalist Branco Mello: he would buy him a bottle of Jack Daniel's in case the album sold over 100,000 copies, since he though it would be a commercial failure. However, the album sold well, and Tony lost the bet.

The album was a major departure of its two predecessors — the previous two albums were more centered in pop rock, while Cabeça Dinossauro had more punk rock, dance-punk and 2 Tone influences. Most of its lyrics contain contundent critics to the society and its components, such as Tony Bellotto's "Polícia" (criticizing the police), Nando Reis' "Igreja" (criticizing the Catholic Church) and "Estado Violência" (criticizing the lack of freedom of speech, in one of the first collaborations of then-drummer of the band Charles Gavin as lyricist).

Õ Blésq Blom

Õ Blésq Blom is the fifth studio album released by Brazilian rock band Titãs. The name of the album means "The first men who walked on the Earth" in the language created by Mauro and Quitéria, two repentistas from the state of Pernambuco. The language is a mixture of Portuguese, English, Italian and Greek. Mauro and Quitéria are married and they met Titãs in a beach in Pernambuco. They also composed and performed the opening and ending tracks for this album.

It was elected by Rolling Stone Brasil as the 74th best Brazilian music album of all time.
