"He is capable of kidnapping more children, killing people...so the hunt goes on". Somewhere in the jungles of central Africa, there is a band of ruthless killers on the move. They are known as the Lord's Resistance Army and their brutal leader, Joseph Kony, has evaded capture for more than 20 years. The soldiers track him in silence from dawn to dusk, rarely drinking, resting a few minutes every two hours, and battling with the impossible terrain of the jungle: "for 22 years, he's been in the bush, so he has some experience on how to elude forces, how to disappear". With the LRA leader only two days march ahead, we find some of those maimed and abused by Kony and his constantly-moving army. "They arrested me, and cut off my lips", says Hellen of the child soldiers who came looking to kill her son - a government soldier. We find two of Kony's former 'wives' - bloody and beaten, barely able to walk after their lucky escape from lives as sex slaves. The men are even more determined to find Kony. Yet he has gone to great lengths to confuse the trail. As the day wears on, and the jungle gets ever denser, Kony lives to fight another day.

"Soldier Boys" was made in 2000 for CTV (Canada), Vision TV (Canada), Granada International and The Canadian International Development Agency and the Soros Foundation(now Sundance). "Soldier Boys" shows the stories of young Acholi escapees from the hell of the Lord's Resistance Army (L.R.A.) in Northern Uganda. These youngsters told us how they were abducted from their families and forced to kill, maim, and terrorize their families and fellow villagers. With these acts of violence, the escapees are outcasts from their village, clan and tribe. We were pressured from all sides not to show how the Acholi spiritual traditions and belief system kept them bound to their captor Joseph Kony, leader of the LRA, and how those same traditions and belief system ultimately led to forgiveness for the escapees.
Indeed, the film's heart is its detailed depiction of an Acholi rite of forgiveness performed by the 'Rwot' - roughly meaning "king" - of the Acholi nation. This rite had not been performed since the 19th century. In performing it, the Rwot was opening himself to assassination by the L.R.A., whose hold over the escapees was thereby broken. In another crucial series of scenes, a young Acholi escapee, Walter Ocan, gravely ill with cancer, leaves the hospital and the Christian relief agency which was providing for him, to have a chicken and goat sacrificed in aid of his healing by an Acholi traditional healer.We were aware when we shot the forgiveness ceremony that we were in play as minor actors in the newly-crowned Rwot's efforts to win back from the other political forces in Acholiland some of his lost political prestige. We were also aware that our African 'fixer' was skimming some of the 'fees' we were asked to pay for the privilege of being allowed to shoot the sacrifice ritual for Walter Ocan and other ceremonies.
We were aware that the Ugandan government also had us in play, particularly when they allowed us an interview with President Youweiri Museveni.
We were aware that the various, mainly Christian, NGOs in Acholiland were trying to prevent the escapees in their care from attending the Rwot's cleansing ceremony.
But being aware of these things did not mean that we could do much at all about them. What we could do was try to show the escapees doing what they genuinely wanted to do, and saying what they genuinely wanted to say. We're filmmakers, not politicians, not soldiers, not diplomats. We did what we could, as I expect the other filmmakers who have done work about the L.R.A. have done. Unless YOU'VE worked in Uganda, don't judge them.

Rare access to the hunt for African warlord Joseph Kony. He is a former Catholic altar boy from northern Uganda, who has waged war in central Africa for more than two decades. Joseph Kony and his rebels from the Lord's Resistance Army have gone deep into the jungle - and American special forces are a key part of the manhunt.
While the search continues, the American military is also a pursuing a wider strategy in the region. The BBC's Tom Burridge has been given rare access to the US operation.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is now home to more than a dozen militant groups, factions of the national army, and scores of rebel combatants. We rode along with US Special Forces and followed the path of Kony and the LRA into the jungle. In the process we learned that the greatest threat to regional security were rebels that no one wanted to talk about: M23.

Kony 2012 is a short film created by Invisible Children, Inc. and released on March 5, 2012. The film's purpose is to promote the charity's "Stop Kony" movement to make Ugandan indicted war criminal and International Criminal Court fugitive Joseph Kony globally known in order to have him arrested by December 2012, the time when the campaign expires.
The film spread virally. As of 30 March 2012 (2012 -03-30)[update], the film had over 86 million views on video-sharing website YouTube, and over 16.6 million views on Vimeo, with other viewing emanating from a central "Kony 2012" website operated by Invisible Children. The intense exposure of the video caused the "Kony 2012" website to crash shortly after it began gaining widespread popularity. More than half of young adult Americans heard about Kony 2012 in the days following the video's release, making it one of the most popular movements of all time.
Thus far the campaign has resulted in a resolution by the United States Senate and contributed to the decision to send troops by the African Union. The film also called for an April 20 world wide canvassing campaign, called "Cover the Night".

Joseph Rao Kony (pronounced IPA: [koɲ]; born sometime between July and September of 1961) is the head of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a Ugandan guerrilla group. While initially enjoying strong public support, the LRA allegedly turned on its own supporters, supposedly to "purify" the Acholi people and turn Uganda into a theocracy. Kony proclaims himself the spokesperson of God and a spirit medium, has nurtured a cult of personality, and claims he is visited by a multinational host of 13 spirits, including a Chinese phantom. Ideologically, the group is a syncretic mix of mysticism, Acholi nationalism, Islam, and Christian fundamentalism, and claims to be establishing a theocratic state based on the Ten Commandments and local Acholi tradition.
Kony has been accused by government entities of ordering the abduction of children to become child-sex slaves and child soldiers. An estimated 66,000 children became soldiers and two million people have been internally displaced since 1986. Kony was indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, in 2005 but has evaded capture. The LRA operates in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic and South Sudan.

This rite had not been performed since the 19th century. In performing it, the Rwot was opening himself to assassination by the L.R.A., whose hold over the escapees was thereby broken. In another crucial series of scenes, a young Acholi escapee, Walter Ocan, gravely ill with cancer, leaves the hospital and the Christian relief agency which was providing for him, to have a chicken and goat sacrificed in aid of his healing by an Acholi traditional healer.We were aware when we shot the forgiveness ceremony that we were in play as minor actors in the newly-crowned Rwot's efforts to win back from the other political forces in Acholiland some of his lost political prestige. We were also aware that our African 'fixer' was skimming some of the 'fees' we were asked to pay for the privilege of being allowed to shoot the sacrifice ritual for Walter Ocan and other ceremonies. We were aware that the Ugandan government also had us in play, particularly when they allowed us an interview with President Youweiri Museveni. We were aware that the various, mainly Christian, NGOs in Acholiland were trying to prevent the escapees in their care from attending the Rwot's cleansing ceremony. But being aware of these things did not mean that we could do much at all about them. What we could do was try to show the escapees doing what they genuinely wanted to do, and saying what they genuinely wanted to say. We're filmmakers, not politicians, not soldiers, not diplomats. We did what we could, as I expect the other filmmakers who have done work about the L.R.A. have done. Unless YOU'VE worked in Uganda, don't judge them. "He is capable of kidnapping more children, killing people...so the hunt goes on". Somewhere in the jungles of central Africa, there is a band of ruthless killers on the move. They are known as the Lord's Resistance Army and their brutal leader, Joseph Kony, has evaded capture for more than 20 years. The soldiers track him in silence from dawn to dusk, rarely drinking, resting a few minutes every two hours, and battling with the impossible terrain of the jungle: "for 22 years, he's been in the bush, so he has some experience on how to elude forces, how to disappear". With the LRA leader only two days march ahead, we find some of those maimed and abused by Kony and his constantly-moving army. "They arrested me, and cut off my lips", says Hellen of the child soldiers who came looking to kill her son - a government soldier. We find two of Kony's former 'wives' - bloody and beaten, barely able to walk after their lucky escape from lives as sex slaves. The men are even more determined to find Kony. Yet he has gone to great lengths to confuse the trail. As the day wears on, and the jungle gets ever denser, Kony lives to fight another day.

"Soldier Boys" was made in 2000 for CTV (Canada), Vision TV (Canada), Granada International and The Canadian International Development Agency and the Soros Foundation(now Sundance). "Soldier Boys" shows the stories of young Acholi escapees from the hell of the Lord's Resistance Army (L.R.A.) in Northern Uganda. These youngsters told us how they were abducted from their families and forced to kill, maim, and terrorize their families and fellow villagers. With these acts of violence, the escapees are outcasts from their village, clan and tribe. We were pressured from all sides not to show how the Acholi spiritual traditions and belief system kept them bound to their captor Joseph Kony, leader of the LRA, and how those same traditions and belief system ultimately led to forgiveness for the escapees.
Indeed, the film's heart is its detailed depiction of an Acholi rite of forgiveness performed by the 'Rwot' - roughly meaning "king" - of the Acholi nation. This rite had not been performed since the 19th century. In performing it, the Rwot was opening himself to assassination by the L.R.A., whose hold over the escapees was thereby broken. In another crucial series of scenes, a young Acholi escapee, Walter Ocan, gravely ill with cancer, leaves the hospital and the Christian relief agency which was providing for him, to have a chicken and goat sacrificed in aid of his healing by an Acholi traditional healer.We were aware when we shot the forgiveness ceremony that we were in play as minor actors in the newly-crowned Rwot's efforts to win back from the other political forces in Acholiland some of his lost political prestige. We were also aware that our African 'fixer' was skimming some of the 'fees' we were asked to pay for the privilege of being allowed to shoot the sacrifice ritual for Walter Ocan and other ceremonies.
We were aware that the Ugandan government also had us in play, particularly when they allowed us an interview with President Youweiri Museveni.
We were aware that the various, mainly Christian, NGOs in Acholiland were trying to prevent the escapees in their care from attending the Rwot's cleansing ceremony.
But being aware of these things did not mean that we could do much at all about them. What we could do was try to show the escapees doing what they genuinely wanted to do, and saying what they genuinely wanted to say. We're filmmakers, not politicians, not soldiers, not diplomats. We did what we could, as I expect the other filmmakers who have done work about the L.R.A. have done. Unless YOU'VE worked in Uganda, don't judge them.

This is the story about Prisca who was forced to become a soldier while only nine years old. She was captured by Joseph Kony's rebels in northern Uganda and spent almost three years in the bush with the Lord's Resistance Army before escaping in 2005.
Thank to Amigos Worldwide she got a new chance to life when she was selected for their one-year training program for disadvantaged youths in Uganda. The center is called Kira Farm and the residential program equips trainees with vocational skills as well as mental empowerment and healing.

• Enhanced communication and early warning systems so civilians can report attacks and rapid assistance can be deployed
