A gas carrier (or gas tanker) is a ship designed to transport LPG, LNG or liquefied chemical gases in bulk
An LNG carrier is a tank ship designed for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG). As the LNG market grows rapidly, the fleet of LNG carriers continues to experience tremendous growth.
The majority of LNG carriers are between 125,000 and 135,000 m3 in capacity. In the modern fleet of LNG carriers, there is an interesting exception concerning ship size. This is the introduction of several smaller ships of between 18,000 and 19,000 m3 having been built in 1994 and later to service the needs of importers of smaller volumes.
At 270m long and 12m wide, Haslar's Ship Tank is one of the largest in the world, designed for constrained hydrodynamic model tests of surface ships, submarines, offshore structures and renewable energy devices.

Accidents can happen, especially when you mix Thomas and Friends characters Thomas The Tank, Gordon and Salty on my new Pool Tracks train set and have a rogue Russian navy aircraft carrier warship declare war on Sodor. I have added some Misty Island bumpy track to ramp up the fun. Pool Tracks turns a simple train set into the best pool toy ever. Pool Tracks or as some call it Aqua Tracks can carry quite a few toy trains, but there are a few important tricks in setting it up if you want the train track to float correctly. I will do a detailed how to video showing you the simple steps to turn your train tracks into pool tracks. This system could also translate over to other track systems of even Hot Wheels track. The flotation system is cheap to buy and fast to make, best of all it's reversible.

I have had so many people contact me in relation to pool tracks, I'm hoping this video is an insight into the fun you can have with your trains in the pool. My children think it's the best toy in the house and want to expand the track layout. Who would ever think that playing with trains could be so much fun.
The RC Russian aircraft carrier warship looks impressive but don't get too excited about it, I will do a dedicated video showing you the good and bad points to that toy.

Take a tour of LST 393 one of the only 2 remaining World War 2 Landing Ship Tank. I concentrate on the engine room, but show the Tank Deck, soldiers bunks & wash rooms and Galley. Built in 1942 by Newport News Ship Building, It sailed until 1946. It served in the D June 6th 1944Omaha Beach Normandy Invasion as well as Sicily, Salerno. After Normandy it served in Pacific Theater. It was bought by Sand Products and renamed the "Highway 16" after a deadly two lane West Michigan highway. It hauled new automobiles from Muskegon to Milwaukee until 1970. Mothballed for about 20 years it was bought by the USS LST 393 Preservation Association as a WW2 LST
It is powered by 2 Electromotive Division 12V567A 2 cycle locomotive diesels marine rated at 900HP. Each cylinder is 8.5" with a 10" stroke and has a displacement of 567 CID per cylinder for a total of 6934 CID.
Max Marine RPM is 744 RPM. Railroad is 600-1200HP depending on the fuel rack setting, 800RPM max. Fuel consumption is 80 gallons of #2 Diesel per hour. Railroad is 16GPH at idle and 38 GPH at full throttle. Lube oil capacity is 160 gallons with 30 gallons being the oil filter. The EMD diesel is basically a BIG Detroit diesel. The difference is the route of air induction and exhaust.
The Detroit has the Roots Blower on top of the engine and the exhaust vented into an internal chamber called the "air box". The EMD Roots blowers are on the front of the engine and vents into the air box & through the "scavening port" then through 2 exhaust valves at the top of the engine. These are not "superchargers" even though they are known as such in marine applications. They provide very little "Boost" if any. 2 Cycle Diesel will not work without scavenging blowers. No lube oil is mixed with the fuel like an outboard motor, but gets its oil from an oil pan and two stage oil pump, one for lube and the other to work the governor & throttle The engines are connected to a reduction gear box where as on a locomotive are connected to a generator.

Tankers are a relatively new concept, dating from the later years of the 19th century. Before this, technology had simply not supported the idea of carrying bulk liquids. The market was also not geared towards transporting or selling cargo in bulk, therefore most ships carried a wide range of different products in different holds and traded outside fixed routes. Liquids were usually loaded in casks—hence the term "tonnage", which refers to the volume of the holds in terms of how many tuns or casks of wine could be carried. Even potable water, vital for the survival of the crew, was stowed in casks. Carrying bulk liquids in earlier ships posed several problems:

A tank is a tracked, armoured fighting vehicle designed for front-line combat which combines operational mobility and tactical offensive and defensive capabilities. Firepower is normally provided by a large-calibre main gun in a rotating turret and secondary machine guns, while heavy armour and all-terrain mobility provide protection for the tank and its crew, allowing it to perform all primary tasks of the armoured troops on the battlefield.
Tanks in World War I were developed separately and simultaneously by Great Britain and France as a means to break the deadlock of trench warfare. Their first use in combat was by the British Army on September 15, 1916 at Flers-Courcelette, during the Battle of the Somme. The name "tank" was adopted in Great Britain during the early stages of their development, as a security measure to conceal their purpose (see Etymology).
Tanks of the interwar period evolved into the designs of World War II. Important concepts of armoured warfare were developed; the Soviet Union launched the first mass tank/air attack at Khalkhin Gol (Nomonhan) in August 1939, which later resulted in the T-34, a predecessor of the main battle tank; this was quickly followed up by Germany on a larger scale when they introduced blitzkrieg ('lightning war') less than two weeks later; a technique which made use of massed concentrations of tanks supported by artillery and air power to break through the enemy front and cause a complete collapse in enemy resistance and morale.

Ships and boats have developed alongside mankind. In armed conflict and in daily life they have become an integral part of modern commercial and military systems. Fishing boats are used by millions of fishermen throughout the world. Military forces operate vessels for combat and to transport and support forces ashore. Commercial vessels, nearly 35,000 in number, carried 7.4 billion tons of cargo in 2007.
Ships were key in history's great explorations and scientific and technological development. Navigators such as Zheng He spread such inventions as the compass and gunpowder. Ships have been used for such purposes as colonization and the slave trade, and have served scientific, cultural, and humanitarian needs. After the 16th century, new crops that had come from and to the Americas via the European seafarers significantly contributed to the world's population growth. I have added some Misty Island bumpy track to ramp up the fun. Pool Tracks turns a simple train set into the best pool toy ever. Pool Tracks or as some call it Aqua Tracks can carry quite a few toy trains, but there are a few important tricks in setting it up if you want the train track to float correctly. I will do a detailed how to video showing you the simple steps to turn your train tracks into pool tracks. This system could also translate over to other track systems of even Hot Wheels track. The flotation system is cheap to buy and fast to make, best of all it's reversible.

Take a tour of LST 393 one of the only 2 remaining World War 2 Landing Ship Tank. I concentrate on the engine room, but show the Tank Deck, soldiers bunks & wash rooms and Galley. Built in 1942 by Newport News Ship Building, It sailed until 1946. It served in the D June 6th 1944Omaha Beach Normandy Invasion as well as Sicily, Salerno. After Normandy it served in Pacific Theater. It was bought by Sand Products and renamed the "Highway 16" after a deadly two lane West Michigan highway. It hauled new automobiles from Muskegon to Milwaukee until 1970. Mothballed for about 20 years it was bought by the USS LST 393 Preservation Association as a WW2 LST
It is powered by 2 Electromotive Division 12V567A 2 cycle locomotive diesels marine rated at 900HP. Each cylinder is 8.5" with a 10" stroke and has a displacement of 567 CID per cylinder for a total of 6934 CID.
Max Marine RPM is 744 RPM. Railroad is 600-1200HP depending on the fuel rack setting, 800RPM max. Fuel consumption is 80 gallons of #2 Diesel per hour. Railroad is 16GPH at idle and 38 GPH at full throttle. Lube oil capacity is 160 gallons with 30 gallons being the oil filter. The EMD diesel is basically a BIG Detroit diesel. The difference is the route of air induction and exhaust.

Take a tour of LST 393 one of the only 2 remaining World War 2 Landing Ship Tank. I concentrate on the engine room, but show the Tank Deck, soldiers bunks & wash rooms and Galley. Built in 1942 by Newport News Ship Building, It sailed until 1946. It served in the D June 6th 1944Omaha Beach Normandy Invasion as well as Sicily, Salerno. After Normandy it served in Pacific Theater. It was bought by Sand Products and renamed the "Highway 16" after a deadly two lane West Michigan highway. It hauled new automobiles from Muskegon to Milwaukee until 1970. Mothballed for about 20 years it was bought by the USS LST 393 Preservation Association as a WW2 LST
It is powered by 2 Electromotive Division 12V567A 2 cycle locomotive diesels marine rated at 900HP. Each cylinder is 8.5" with a 10" stroke and has a displacement of 567 CID per cylinder for a total of 6934 CID.
Max Marine RPM is 744 RPM. Railroad is 600-1200HP depending on the fuel rack setting, 800RPM max. Fuel consumption is 80 gallons of #2 Diesel per hour. Railroad is 16GPH at idle and 38 GPH at full throttle. Lube oil capacity is 160 gallons with 30 gallons being the oil filter. The EMD diesel is basically a BIG Detroit diesel. The difference is the route of air induction and exhaust.

The Lockheed AC-130 (in this video during training exercice) is an heavily armed aircraft ground-attack aircraft derived from the C-130 Hercules transport plane . The basic airframe is built by Lockheed , and Boeing is responsible for the conversion into gunboat and aircraft support. The AC-130A Gunship II superseded the AC-47 Gunship I in Vietnam War .
The Lockheed AC-130 is used only by the United States Air Force , currently using the AC-130H Spectre and AC-130U Spooky II only versions. The AC-130 is powered by four turboprops and has an armament ranging from rotary automatic guns of 20 mm, until the shells of 105 mm. Its standard crew is normally composed of twelve or thirteen airmen, including five officers (two pilots, a navigator, an official of electronic warfare and fire control officer) and enlisted personnel (five engineers, electronics operators and aerial gunners).
The air forces of the United States used the AC-130 gunship for air support, air interdiction and protection. The role of air support includes support to ground troops, escorting convoys, and flying urban operations. Air interdiction missions were carried out against designated targets and targets of opportunity. Protection missions, including defending air bases and other facilities. Stationed at Hurlburt Field northwest of Florida , the squadron of gunboats, are part of the Special Operations Command Air Force (AFSOC) and components of the Special Operations Command (SOCOM).
The C-130 Hercules was selected as a base plane of the new draft gunboat, to replace the AC-47 Gunship I known as "Spooky" or "Puff the Magic Dragon" (the title track of the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary ) during the Vietnam War , to improve resistance as gunboat and increase the transport capacity of weapons.
In 1967, the aircraft JC-130A USAF 54-1626 was chosen to become the AC-130A prototype. Modifications were made that year at the base of Wright-Patterson Air Force for aeronautical systems division. A direct night vision telescope was installed in the front door, near the viewfinder infrared . The prototype computer analog fire control was handmade by the commander of the RAF Tom Pinkerton, avionics laboratory of USAF . Flight tests of the prototype were performed on the basis of Eglin, followed by further testing and modifications. In September 1967, the aircraft was certified and ready for combat testing and carried airbase Nha Trang in South Vietnam for a test program for 90 days. As a result of the successes, some few AC-130A were constructed using similar equipment and analog computers . The original 54-1626 Gunship is exposed at the Museum of the USAF.
The AC-130 was the replacement for the AC-119 Gunship Shadow III during the Vietnam War , who later showed his little power and payload in wartime. In 1970, an additional dozen AC-130As were acquired under the "Pave Soon" project. Despite the name of the project, the aircraft was commonly called by the squad as a Spectre.

It can sail at a maximum speed of 20 nautical miles per hour. This new model has a good concealment abilities, and the design makes it easier for landing equipment to load and offload.
The ship is equipped with artillery, and has a helicopter landing pad. Its major mission is to transport landing troops , transport supplies and wounded personnel, and to conduct other non-combat military operations.

1989 Ford F-150 4X4 Fuel Tank Sending Unit Replacement
The fuel gauge sending unit for the 19 gallon mid-ship tank on my '89 F-150 has been bad for a number of years and today, I finally got around to addressing the issue. Here, I drop the tank and skid plate, remove the old fuel pump/sending unit assembly, build up the new fuel pump/sending unit assembly using the original fuel pump, and finally install the tank and skid plate. German emergency services responding with dozens of vehicles:
The explosion of a big oil tank and a ship crash in the harbor of Fuerth - that results in a response of approximately 70 emergency vehicles with a crew of 350 man and women.
Luckily the scenario was just a huge disaster management drill, which has to be held as realistic as possible and at least once every 6 years.
Apart from the Fuerth FD (paid, full-time FD), which remained at the station for the case of real emergencies (only the command, the very first one in the video, responded to the scene), the drill indeed was very realistic. At the beginning you can see the 1st alarm units from the Fuerth VFD (Command, Portable Pump Van, 2 Engines), the Emergency Doctor Car and 2 Ambulances from the Bavarian Red Cross, and a minute later the EMS Chief. The first units explored the scene and as they saw that 1st alarm isn't enough, they began dispatching further units. Right after the EMS Chief arrived on scene, you can hear the alarm tones on the radio and the alarm sirens going off. A short time afterwards further units from the Fuerth Volunteer Fire Department, from the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) primary EMS, Disaster Management and Water Rescue, from the German Lifeguard Association (DLRG) and from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW - the blue trucks) responded to the scene as well. Even the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration came to the harbor, but their units don't have emergency lights and sirens (e.g. the one at 18:55 ).
What had to be done: Concerning the tank explosion: extinguishing the fire, cooling down the other oil tanks and measuring gas concentrations in the area. Concerning the ship crash they had to block the oil spill on the water. On both scenarios wounded people had to be rescued. 50 people simulated the victims, which also had to be taken to the ermegcyn room at the Hospital Fuerth - just being able to rescue the victims, but then not being able to enlarge the capacity at the hospital's emergency room wouldn't help very much, that's why also hospitals take part in these drills.
It was a very successfull drill both for the ermergency services and for us filmers.

Die Explosion eines Öltanks sowie ein Schiffsunglück, mit insgesamt 50 Verletzten, das war das Szenario mit dem sich die rund 350 Einsatzkräfte auseinandersetzen mussten. Mit rund 70 Fahrzeugen kamen (neben dem einem ELW der BF Fürth), die Freiwillige Feuerwehr Fürth, das Technische Hilfswerk, Das Baerische Rote Kreuz mit sowohl primärer Notfallrettung, SEG-Einheiten und der Wasserwacht, die Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft und auch die Wasser- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes (Fahrzeuge ohne Blaulicht).
Ich muss sagen ich fand die Übung SEHR GUT abgewickelt, u.a. auch dahingehend, dass die weiteren erforderlichen Kräfte erst alarmiert werden, wenn die ersten festgestellt haben dass die noch weitere brauchen. Dass eben nicht alles auf ein mal gleich von Anfang an verfügbar ist und man erstmal mit den wenigen Kräften was anfangen muss.

The fuel gauge sending unit for the 19 gallon mid-ship tank on my '89 F-150 has been bad for a number of years and today, I finally got around to addressing the issue. Here, I drop the tank and skid plate, remove the old fuel pump/sending unit assembly, build up the new fuel pump/sending unit assembly using the original fuel pump, and finally install the tank and skid plate. I also show how to test both the fuel pump and sending unit prior to installation. I also test the old sending unit, demonstrating what a bad sending unit looks like to an ohm meter. Testing is important since these parts are difficult to get to, so you want to make sure you do this only once. With only 117,000 miles, and using both fore and aft tanks for a 60/40 duty cycle, the original fuel pumps should last a very long time. So these were not replaced. (8/25/2012)
