The Street (short story)

"The Street" is a short story by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft, written in late 1919 and first published in the December 1920 issue of the Wolverine amateur journal.

Synopsis

The story traces the history of the eponymous street in a New England city, presumably Boston, from its first beginnings as a path in colonial times to a quasi-supernatural occurrence in the years immediately following World War I.

As the city grows up around the street, it is planted with many trees and built along with "simple, beautiful houses of brick and wood," each with a rose garden. As the Industrial Revolution runs its course, the area degenerates into a run-down, polluted slum, with all of the street's old houses falling into disrepair.

After World War I and the October Revolution, the area becomes home to a community of Russian immigrants; among the new residents are the leadership of a "vast band of terrorists" who are plotting the destruction of the United States on Independence Day.

The Street is a historical property on a bridleway of the same name in Heath Charnock in the Borough of Chorley, Lancashire, England. It is located on the western banks of the Upper Rivington reservoir and close to the boundary with the village of Rivington. It has been converted to apartments.

Alexander Street took name from the property when he was the owner of the estate in 1534. After his death, a distant cousin attempted to gain control of the building, but he was evicted after a presumptuous attempt to act as a guardian to the deceased's children.

After the reservoir was built in 1850, the house was demolished and rebuilt with compensation from Liverpool Corporation. In 1853, the property was owned by Peter Martin, who also owned Street Wood and Blindhurst Farm. Major renovation was undertaken, including vineries in the expansive gardens.

Chorley Borough Council considered demolishing the structure following the demolition of many other large historic buildings in the village. It was rebuilt and although the roof was removed, the ornate and distinct chimneys remained.

MATE (software)

MATE (/ˈmɑːteɪ/; Spanish pronunciation: [ˈmate]) is a desktop environment forked from the now-unmaintained code base of GNOME 2. It is named after the South American plant yerba mate and tea made from the herb, mate. The use of a new name, instead of GNOME, avoids conflicts with GNOME 3 components.

History

GNOME 3 (released in April 2011) replaced the classic desktop metaphor, substituting its native user interface: GNOME Shell. This action led to some criticism from parts of the free software community. Some users refused to accept the new interface design of GNOME and called for continued development of GNOME 2. An Argentine user of Arch Linux started the MATE project in order to meet this demand and announced the availability of Mate on 18 June 2011.

Marco (comics)

Marco is a fictional character in the DC Comics universe. He is a martial artist created by writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Denys Cowan as a supporting character to The Question, and he first appeared in The Question Quarterly #2 (1991). Marco's name is a pun, a reference to the question mark.

Fictional character biography

Born in Brazil, Marco learned English from his father, an American who had fled to Brazil after killing somebody in New York. Marco was abandoned by his father (who was apparently murdered soon after) at age eight. The best martial artist in Brazil and a master of Capoeira, Marco defeated every fighter he could locate in his homeland. Marco went searching for better fighters, only to be soundly defeated by Lady Shiva. After Shiva complemented him on his skill, Marco asked for a rematch. Shiva told Marco that he would have to earn that by defeating a fighter that was better than him. Shiva then told Marco about Richard Dragon, possibly the best fighter in the world, who had recently retired. When Marco asked if Richard had taught any students, Shiva told him about The Question, Vic Sage, who had learned from Richard. Shiva agreed to fight Marco again if he defeated Sage first.

Marco (Hangul: 마르코; born July 12, 1977) is a South Korean model and actor, born and raised in Argentina.

Biography

After only making minor cameo appearances in dramas, Marco is best known for appearing on popular reality show We Got Married alongside Son Dam Bi.

He later appeared in After School's music video "AH."

Marco appeared as a cast member of MBC Every1's 2010 family reality show Family Needed: Season 4 along with Park Jun-gyu, Kang Soo-ji, Actress Kim Jung-min and girl group Secret's Han Sunhwa, and was a regular cast member of the MBC's Sunday Sunday Night show Danbi. In 2011, Lee married Korean golfer, Ahn Shi-hyun and they were divorced in 2013.

Style is a Telugu film produced by Lagadapati Sirisha Sridhar on Larsco Entertainment banner, directed by Raghava Lawrence. Starring Prabhu Deva, Raghava Lawrence, Raja, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Charmme Kaur in lead roles, Chiranjeevi & Nagarjuna Akkineni given cameo appearance and music is composed by Mani Sharma. This is Lawrence's second directorial venture after the blockbuster Mass with Nagarjuna Akkineni. Megastar Chiranjeevi also made a came appearance in this film. Plot

Ganesh (Prabhu Deva) is a good dancer. He beats Anthony in one dance competition to head into the international arena. Anthony gets Ganesh beaten up, and Ganesh loses his legs in a car accident. He is depressed, but he wants to give his dance talent to someone and make him his heir. On a different line, Raghava (Raghava Lawrence) works as a boy at a dance school in Vizag. He and four of his friends are good dancers, but they are never recognized until one folk dance at a hotel. Ganesh finds his prospective heir in Raghava. The rest of the film is how Raghava prepares and defeats Anthony in the final dance competition.
