So this is a documentary that has been 13 months in the making. Every aspect of production was done entirely by soldiers from the Pennslyvania National Guard. We spent 9 months in the Kunar province of Afghanistan, a place much more hostile than I think any of us expected. We adjusted quickly.

Late Dr. Kabir Stori - a famous patriotic poet and writer from Kunar, Afghanistan decided on 2005 to go to his home country with his son Nasir Stori. They recorded the nice surrounding, landscape, people and more.
Pashtoon nation has one such name of Dr. Kabir Stori (spelled as Kabeer Storai, Storay, Storae, Storey, Stooray). He was a great poet, intellectual, writer, researcher, thinker and a person whose love for his nation knew no bounds. He was a man of principals and values.
A rhyme of Dr. Kabir Stori translated by Dr. Hatef Mokhtar in English says,
If you come to Stori’s grave sometime, pray for me in Pashto, because I am a lover of Pashto
This verse of Dr. Stori clearly demonstrates his love and passion for his nation, culture and language. A true lover of Pashto, all his literature proves that he was an excellent poet and writer in the Pashtoon region who proved his metal through his outstanding poetry. Dr Kabir Storay not only discovered the depths of poetic beauty and the heights of Pashto literature but he also had a political vision and that was the national integration of Pashtoons.
Dr. Kabir Stori was born on 06-04-1942 in Kunar/Pashtoonkhwa (Afghanistan). The name of his father was Lal Mohammad Khan. A Pashtoon by cast, Dr. Stori belonged to Mirdad Khel a sub-tribe of Yousafzai tribe. He obtained his basic education from an elementary school in Khas Kunar and later on from the Rehman Baba Lycee (High School) in Kabul. During his school days he was an outstanding student who left an indelible impression upon his teachers and fellow students who predicted him to be a successful professional. He later moved to Germany and studied Psychology with Political science, sociology and philosophy from the universities of Frankfurt, Cologne and Marburg in Germany. He got his doctorate in natural sciences known as Diplom Psychologist (Dr.rer.nat).

Kunar (Pashto: کونړ) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the northeastern part of the country. Its capital is Asadabad. It is one of the four "N2KL" provinces (Nangarhar Province, Nuristan Province, Kunar Province and Laghman Province). N2KL is the designation used by US and Coalition Forces in Afghanistan for the rugged and very violent region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border opposite Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Kunar is the center of the N2KL region.
Kunar province is located in the northeast of Afghanistan. It borders with Nangarhar Province to the south, Nuristan Province to the north, Laghman Province to the west and has a border with Pakistan in the east. The province covers an area of 4339 km2. Nearly nine tenths (86%) of the province is mountainous or semi mountainous terrain while one eighth (12%) of the area is made up of relatively flat land. The primary geographic features of the province are (1) the lower Hindu Kush mountains which form, (2) the Kunar Valley, and (3) the Kunar River which flows south along the north-south axis of the valley is a primary draining conduit for the Hindu Kush basin. The mountains, narrow valleys with steeps sides and river serve as formidable natural obstacles and have impacted all movement through the province throughout history. Even in the early 21st century movement on foot, with pack animals or with motorized vehicles is extremely limited and channeled due to the significant geographic restrictions. One famous Pashtun poet, Mohammad Hashem Zamani, was from Kunar.

Pashtoon nation has one such name of Dr. Kabir Stori (spelled as Kabeer Storai, Storay, Storae, Storey, Stooray). He was a great poet, intellectual, writer, researcher, thinker and a person whose love for his nation knew no bounds. He was a man of principals and values.
A rhyme of Dr. Kabir Stori translated by Dr. Hatef Mokhtar in English says,

He obtained his basic education from an elementary school in Khas Kunar and later on from the Rehman Baba Lycee (High School) in Kabul. During his school days he was an outstanding student who left an indelible impression upon his teachers and fellow students who predicted him to be a successful professional. He later moved to Germany and studied Psychology with Political science, sociology and philosophy from the universities of Frankfurt, Cologne and Marburg in Germany. U.S. forces scoured rugged Afghan mountains on Friday for a small team of soldiers missing after fierce fighting that included the shooting down of a special forces helicopter with 16 troops aboard earlier this week, U.S. officials said.
A purported Taliban spokesman claimed to have captured one of the soldiers.
The developments further worsen the already stinging blow the U.S. military suffered from the deaths of the 16 on the MH-47 Chinook chopper, and comes as it scrambles to deal with an insurgency that threatens three years of progress toward peace.
A U.S. military spokesman said U.S. forces were using "every available asset" to search for the missing troops.
The downed helicopter had gone into the mountains near the town of Asadabad, close to the Pakistani border, on Tuesday to "extract the soldiers," he added.
The team on the ground has been missing since the chopper was downed.
A local police chef said that there has been explosions and attacks in the mountainous region.
The Taliban claim to have kidnapped a soldier came from its purported spokesman, Mullah Latif Hakimi.
Hakimi, who also claimed that the insurgents shot down the helicopter, often calls news organisations to take responsibility for attacks, often with information that proves exaggerated or untrue. His exact tie to the Taliban leadership is not clear.
At the Pentagon in Washington, Lt. Gen. James Conway, director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the military did not yet have a full account of all ground troops involved in the operation, but he said no troops had been classified as officially missing.
Rescuers, struggling against stormy weather, insurgents and the rugged terrain,had recovered the remains of the 16 and on Friday were trying to identify them, the military said.
Only eight months ago, Afghan and U.S. officials were hailing a relatively peaceful presidential election as a sign that the Taliban rebellion was finished.
The loss of the helicopter follows three months of unprecedented fighting that has killed about 477 suspected insurgents, 47 Afghan police and soldiers, 134 civilians, and 45 U.S. troops, including the 16 killed in Tuesday's crash.

Syria, officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. Its capital Damascus is among the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world. A country of fertile plains, high mountains, and deserts, it is home to diverse ethnic and religious groups, including the Arab, Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Circassians, Mhallami, Mandeans and Turks. Religious groups include Sunni, Christians, Alawite, Druze religion, Mandeanism and Yezidi. Sunni Arabs make up the largest population group in Syria.
In English, the name "Syria" was formerly synonymous with the Levant (known in Arabic as al-Sham) while the modern state encompasses the sites of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the 3rd millennium BC. In the Islamic era, Damascus was the seat of the Umayyad Caliphate and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Sultanate in Egypt.
The modern Syrian state was established after World War I as a French mandate, and represented the largest Arab state to emerge from the formerly Ottoman-ruled Arab Levant. It gained independence in April 1946, as a parliamentary republic. The post-independence period was tumultuous, and a large number of military coups and coup attempts shook the country in the period 1949–1971. Between 1958-61, Syria entered a brief union with Egypt, which was terminated by a military coup. The Arab Republic of Syria came into being in 1963, transforming from the Republic of Syria in the Ba'athist coup d'état. Syria was under Emergency Law from 1963 to 2011, effectively suspending most constitutional protections for citizens, and its system of government is considered to be non-democratic. Bashar al-Assad has been president since 2000 and was preceded by his father Hafez al-Assad, who was in office from 1970 to 2000.

On 4th May at 1 pm we reached Kibber and checked in at hotel Tashi Zom - the first hotel we encountered. Being early summer no piped water was expected in washrooms. The place being about half a km from village, a lovely panoramic view of the same is worth savoring. Just opposite hotel, beyond the road, the vast stretch of barren tract consists of Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. A distant view of a group of Ibexes poking into mud was a rewarding experience. The morning of day after, when my travel mate Sachin Vaidya left for a walk through Sanctuary accompanied by a guide, I had a walk through the Kibber village. Most of the footages are resultant of this trip. The first signage I encountered was Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana – a road from Chicham to Kibber .We passed by a beautiful looking Norling guest house which looked deserted. The early morning visuals were mostly villagers on way to agri-plots accompanied by Yaks. Some had cows and calves in tow. Climbing higher, the Kibber Gompa and Chorten seemed to break the monotony of almost identical looking houses. The Norling Homestay was another beautiful looking building offering alternative accommodation. Retracing downhill midway through the slope, a large compound housing Secondary school building was humming with activity. Small group of students seated in sun soaked open compound near a blackboard and chair, waited for their teachers to arrive. The writing on board was indicative of a study of English with their meaning in Hindi. The chemistry class had its share of Formulae covering the entire black board. With teachers arriving, it was an open air school. Students mostly comprised of girls with a sprinkling of boys. ‘Where have the boys gone?’ with this query in my mind, I retraced to my hotel room waiting Sachin to return from his walk though sanctuary. A few frames clicked by Sachin finds place in the video.
